No, I don't tip appliance delivery people - they make a decent salary, unlike your pizza delivery person.

Wow, it is expensive where you are. Just checked and for my mother to get a new washer and dryer delivered to the house, the old washer and dryer to be removed from the basement, the new washer and dryer INSTALLED in the basement, and the old washer and dryer hauled away was $20. I am not sure if that even covers the gas that it will take for the delivery truck to use for this effort. Also the local appliance store does ALL maintenance and support for everything that they sell, no subcontractors...

Are you getting through a big box store, a chain, or a local appliance store?

Oh, unless they do something exceptional for you (like haul the old machine out that they were not under contract to do) I would not tip them. Don't know how much they make, I would assume similar to movers (which you would tip if they did not tip or break your stuff)...

I generally just offer them a soda. Truck drivers/delivery people make good wages.

my purchase is from an independent store less than a mile away. a week ago, i purchased a refrig for my son and DIL from the same place. they live one block away and because it was the second floor, delivery was $45.00. since mine is going to the basement i'm $35.00. annoyed me to no end when he started telling me everything else was a little extra. i just assumed all of these things came as part of a "customer service" package, but i don't think there is much you don't pay for these days - no little extras.

i won't tip - i assume they charge this delivery so that they do in fact get something.

I just go by gut instinct when they come. If they are polite and do anything extra at all, I'll give a small tip. Recently had a bed delivered, it was so simple, in and out real easy, and I did not tip.

I like to tip them. I've found most of these people are hard workers, and they're grateful to get an unexpected tip. I don't think they get paid all that much, unless they're in a union. Jobs aren't easy to get right now for lots of Americans. Lower skilled workers have been squeezed out of these types of jobs by an influx of new arrivals. I figure if they're doing this kind of work, they can use an extra $10.00 or so.

The mechanic that works for us obviously doesn't make per hour what our labor rate is. He does a great job for all of our customers and get's a kick out of getting a tip from an appreciative customer. He remembers the customers that do tip and takes extra care to something nice the next time they are in. I had a customer ask if it was OK to give him a tip.

I wouldn't tip if I already have to pay for everything they do. If there is or is not a delivery charge, I would tip for the extras, such as removing what is there, etc. But I wouldn't tip after being charged for those extras.

I don't know why,I guess I'm generous, but I usually give delivery people about $10 each if it involves heavy lifting. I gave two carpet installers $20 to split between them because they had to move furnituire. The man who brought a new washer down to my basement also got $10. I consider it a "thank-you" for showing extra care,not breaking anything or making a mess.

I am a bad tipper. Really. I never think of it. I guess, since they get paid for doing their job, that should be it?

All the problems I had with my mattresses, I didn't tip ANYONE that brought or took them away.

I don't usually, but my husband does. He usually gives each one a five or ten, depending on how much they're delivering. It doesn't matter if there's a delivery charge. I'm not sure how much they make, but I don't think it's a lot. The city where I live is known across our state for having a high cost of living but lower wages than other cities.
