Hmmmm... something doesn't sound right here. They DO dry, but they dry by condensation, not a heating coil. You have to leave the door closed and let it dry that way. We have very, very hard water and I DON'T have hardwater spots -this is the first time I can say that with a DW. What are you using for DW soap and Rinse agent?

Agreed: you don't need to leave the door open - you need to leave it CLOSED! The condensing process continues for a while after the cycle finishes. When I run mine overnight, everything is completely dry in the morning. Even leaving it for a few minutes after the end of the cycle makes it better.

Mine was one of the recent 'recall' ones, and the guy who replaced the programmer unit told me to only fill the detergent up to the lowest line. It's been far better on spots since then. He pointed out that it's designed to clean with the power and heat of the water - adding more detergent than you need just reduces the water power, by creating more foam.
He was right.

As bestyears said, there is no heated dry, but we have 2 Bosch dw's now and had 1 in our last house. Some water on the bottom of things with indented bottoms, or sometimes on plastic, but as long as we let it have a bit of time after the cycle, the residual heat does a great job of drying things off. When we added a 2nd dishwasher in our last house, we put in a high end Maytag with heated dry and the dishes came out wetter than in the Bosch. The other good thing about no heating coil is that things don't fall and start melting on it, and I don't worry about putting plastics on the bottom rack.

yep too much soap and no Rinse Aid and you open the door...all things that are messing with the original design of the machine. Try all the above suggestions and your dishes will be clean, shiny and dry. c

You NEED to use jet-dry with a bosch. I always run mine overnight, and everything is dry when I unload in the morning. The only exception is plastic, which I don't put in the dishwasher anymore anyway.

I've got two Bosch DWs and agree with everyone else here -- mine dry as well as any DW of any brand I have ever had, but I use rinse aid and leave the door shut. I do sometimes go open the door to stop the beeping, but I close it again and unload later.

Yep, my Bosch dries fine. I have reduced the amount of soap I use to about a tablespoon and my dishes are clean and dry every morning.

Mine dries fine (sometimes a little on bottoms of coffee cups). You've got to let the heat work and use rinse agent like PP said.

Does anybody have problems with Bosch not cleaning pots and pans well? After 18 months it seems I'm not getting frying pans (browning ground meat) or pasta/potato pots clean any more.

Rinse Aid is critical.. also keeping the door closed. If you try that and it ends up wet, let me know. My neighbor's Bosch worked really, really well, but Jet Dry was critical (as was keeping the door shut). We're getting a Bosch for this kitchen, so I'm curious to know if you still have the drying problem after trying these suggestions.

Here's what works best for us. We use a liquid wetting agent like Jet Dry, using the default dispensing adjustment. We use a quality powder detergent, never a liquid, just like the instructions say. We leave the door closed until the whole cycle is over.

When the cycle is complete, we open the door and let any steam out. We then tip the water out of dimpled glasses, etc., and any plastic containers that may have gotten turned over. We then close the door and let the residual heat finish drying anything that had trapped water.

We unload the machine the next morning, unless we need something out of it earlier.

We don't get water spots, even though we have hard well water. We almost never get items that don't come completely clean. We don't get melted plastic items, and we don't have to worry about anything going only on the top shelf because it might melt.

Quite simply, it is the best dishwasher we have ever owned. It is also the quietest we have ever owned, by far.

We returned a Bosch b/c we were unsatisfied with the drying capability. We use Jet Dry and followed instructions, didn't open the door, etc. We now happily use an LG that dries just fine using the same method. Could just be that one in a million just don't work as well. My best friend raves about her Bosch so I just chalk it up to bad luck on our part.

Ajsmama -- I've had my new Bosch for about 5 months now, and although wanting to be a 100% enthusiast, we've been less than thrilled about how well it cleans. I scrape, don't rinse, use the recommended soap and jetdry etc. Nonetheless, we have to run pots through twice on a regular basis, even using the potscrubbing cycle. We can't use the short cycle for anything but glasses, which is a disappointment.

It's wonderfully quiet, though, and the long dry cycle doesn't bother us very much.

Second the sentiment about the Boschs drying perfectly fine - barring the stored water on the bottoms of cups. Jetdry needed and I keep the door firmly closed. FYI - I don't understand the logic of subjecting your cabinetry to hot moist steam pouring all over it from a hot DW than to rattle cages enough to figure out what it would take (either you or the vendor, in the case of a defective machine) to get a DW that dries. Either way, I would NOT risk cabinetry - it is MUCH more expensive to replace than any DW.

Circuspeanut, you need to get the 10-4 on your machine. I wash pots and pans on a normal and sometimes on the china/delicate cycle and they generally come out fine. Seriously dried pots & pans or seriously stuck pasta in the pasta pot may not come clean in the CHINA cycle but it ALWAYS has come clean in the Normal cycle. I use half a Miele tablet and otherwise used a teaspoon or so of the Cascade powder. This for a full dishwasher.

Loading is the other trick. I'd recommend loading with the pans and dishes at an angle rather than full on face down. I seem to remember having learnt that through trial and error early on when I first got this machine.

But otherwise, your machine should be able to clean absolutely spanking clean. This is bar none the cleanest cleaning DW, I've ever seen. Sort of nuts to rave on so a DW but I can't quite help it - this chap cleans like the dickens.

And does a fine job of drying, too.

Two other important things with a Bosch DW, the high loop drain and on the inside of the DW, on both of mine it has been on the right wall, there is a vent. You can not put anything tall right in front of the vent. It has to do with the condensation drying.

Stuck-on pasta (like ravioli) I have to scrub by hand, and I always have to scrub the broiler. When the DW was new it seem to clean the scummy water line on pasta/potato/soup pots (and lids - I always have potato scum on inside of lid when I make mashed potatoes!) well, and even the frying pans where a bit of ground meat got stuck. Not now, even on potscrubber cycle. I've tried varying the amount of powdered detergent. Any suggestions?

Ahh, if only all my other appliances served us as well as our quiet, quiet Bosch dishwasher. The light shining down to the floor to let you know it's running seemed like a gimmick - but not so! I often have to look over at it to be sure that it is running.

We wash most pots & pans by hand & then just use the quick wash (31 min. cycle on average) & we couldn't be happier with the sparkling dishes and energy savings! On the first of the month I add Jet-Dry & clean the filter system (only takes a few minutes).

I might have an older model (SHU66 something). No light shining on the floor, but it is very quiet. CR rated it the best a few years ago. All I can see for filter is twist-out narrow tall "basket" in the floor of the machine. I add Jet Dry when light comes on. Am I missing something?

On my model, you unscrew the twist-out basket which releases the perforated base & the mesh cylinder. I use a tile grout brush to clean the gunk out of the perforations & mesh monthly.

Also, another tip...prior to starting up the dishwasher, let your hot water run to its hottest, so only hot water runs into the water line to your dishwasher.

I clean the mesh cylinder every once in a while - I've never really gotten much gunk off it so I don't check it often. Is there another part under it to clean? Sometimes I have water pooled in the bottom and I have been concerned but when I start it the next time it drains and doesn't run all over the floor so I don't think anything's clogged.

We're all different when it comes to what we expect out of a dishwasher. I don't use a rinse agent because I don't want that stuff on my dishes. I do add 1/2 to 1 cup of vinegar to the DW because I have hard water. I usually add it during the first long wash cycle. The small amount of water on the bottom of cups that I find when I open up the DW in the morning is no big deal. A little bit of air drying does the trick and I'm happy.

I'm curious how old the dishwashers are of the people who are raving about Bosch. The reason is, when I went looking for a new dishwasher last week, the salesperson told me not to buy Bosch. She said they were fantastic up until their latest releases (1 or 2 years ago?). Since then, she's seen a ton more service calls (motor problems) and people complaining about the condensation drying not working well.
Instead, she highly recommended Asko, which comes with standard 3 years parts and labour. Also, she said the condensation drying on the Asko works perfectly.

We've had ours for nine years, and not 100% happy with it. It's the basic model with no light wash cycle. We need to wash a lot of plastic (containers we use to take lunch to work and store leftovers), so all of that stuff is wet no matter what we do. It also takes 4 hours to run one load, and there is never a load when every single thing is clean. Running hot water before it starts doesn't make any difference in cleaning. We scrape and occasionally prerinse, and we don't wash pots or large bowls in it. I haven't noticed any difference between opening it immediately after the cycle is done or leaving the door closed in terms of things getting dry, but maybe I'll try that next time and see what happens.

It is quiet.

Uh, oh.... rinse aid???? I have never used this product before and we've ordered our new Bosch dishwasher.

We try to only use "healthy" products, like Ecover and Seventh Generation. Are there any similar rinse aids? Can I just use white vinegar or something?

I am a breast cancer survivor and I just can't stand the idea of ingesting any more weird chemicals!!!!!!!

if anyone else is interested, here's what I found out. First of all, I definitely do NOT want to use JetDry:
"JetDry contains 50-60% Citric acid and 38-42% Sulfamic acid. This is according to its MSDS. (Material Safety Data Sheet) All chemicals have to be listed by law or it can't be sold in the United States. It also has health and flamability ratings according to the company who makes it :)

Rating Scale:
0= Minimal; 1 = Slight; 2 = Moderate; 3 = Serious; 4 = Severe;
N = No information provided by manufacturer; * = Chronic Health Hazard "

Of course that "3" likely means there's a serious health risk if you, like, ate the whole box. But, given my cancer history, I do not like to take ANY chances and try to avoid chemicals as much as possible.

Thanks Stacey - I never thought that something was was supposed to be used on dishes in rinse cycle would be harmful! Of course, I would not eat powdered detergent or drink Jet Dry. I will have to see what Bosch says about using vinegar - it's a lot cheaper too! I never used rinse aid in old DW.

My Bosch is probably 3 years old if not older - it was discontinued floor sample when I "reserved" it 2 years ago while I was out shopping/ordering other appliances for new house. But I recall Asko got very low marks (as did Fisher Paytel) from Consumer Reports reliability.

I love the Bosches in our new house (installed about 14 months ago) as much as the one in our last house we bought about 10 yrs ago.

I have a 6 year old Bosch, and use Seventh Generation and Jet Dry in it, with excellent results, as reported above. But, stacey, I just learned that Seventh Generation now make a rinse aid too. If your local store doesn't stock it, you can probably order it from Amazon.

Ecover, 7th generation and a couple of other eco sensitive manufacturers make rinse aid products. I am including a link to the Ecover website. Miele also has a line of eco-sensitive products and I use the rinse aid from that line along with the dishwashing tabs.

That is the only "issue" we have. I have several coffee mugs with deep indents and there will be water sitting there when everything else is dry. When I open the dishwasher I just use one paper towel to absorb that water. I don't consider it an issue. It cleans very well, I never rinse anything, ever.

Our dishwasher is directly above the hot water heater, so the hot water gets to it quickly. I also have one of the higher end models, but not the highest. I think at the time I bought it there were 3-4 fully integrated versions, and I bought the one that was one down from the "top".

It take 135 minutes (well, that's what the timer on it says, I run it before I got to bed or before I leave for work).
