The only thing weird is the spaghetti sauce mix...I would use my own mixed seasonings.
They will be slightly greasy spiced pretzels.
Not nearly as weird as caramel cheetoes! LOL!

It doesn't really sound weird as far as junk food goes. Will probably come out tasting very salty and tomatoey, worth a shot imo. Weirdest titled junk food I've come across recently are Lemon Vinegar Kit Kat bars from Japan.

I like snack mixes and have a yummy recipe that calls for Orville Redenbacher buttery popcorn oil, ranch mix, and jalapeno seasoning salt - so maybe that's why these spaghetti pretzels don't sound weird :) Sounds perfect for a football party.

Over the last few years, I have made a ton of spiced pretzels.
Used larger pretzels, broken into pieces, vegetable oil, and my own combination of seasonings and spices.
By letting them 'soak' over night, then baking in a very low oven (225) for about 1 1/2 hours, (stirring every 20 min or so), the pretzels absorbed all the oil and were not greasy at all.
The spaghetti sauce mix in your recipe does seem 'different', but if you like it, why not?

One of the weirdest "yummy" things I ever had was morir sonando, which is a drink from the Dominican Republic. I first had it at a potluck at a school I worked at with a large Hispanic contingency on the staff (great cooks too!). One of the teachers from the Dominican Republic brought it as his contribution but wouldn't divulge the recipe, he said it was secret. Years later I just Googled it, lol. Here's one version:

How to make Morir Soñando

Morir Soñando, "To die while dreaming", literally translated, could not have a more sinister name. The ominous moniker notwithstanding, this is an awfully popular beverage in the Dominican Republic.

Ingredients
2 cups orange juice (fresh squeezed or bottled)
1/4 cup of sugar (or 1/2 cup pineapple juice if you like)
4 cups of evaporated milk
2 cup crushed ice
Juice from 2 large limes (can be substituted for green lemons or oranges)

Step 1: To make this beverage, simply pitch all the ingredients in a blender and give it a few quick shots on high.

Step 2: Pour and serve! DonÂt forget to garnish the glass with fresh fruit. This is the ideal drink on Cinco Di Mayo, for the designated driver.

My other friend from the Dominican Republic says, "It's not weird, it's just an Orange Julius!"

Some recipes call for non-evaporated milk, adding Tang for color, less sugar, other citrus juices, and vanilla. I have made it with lowfat milk and a dash of vanilla sugar. Very refreshing.

Might be good with a little coconut milk too

I have a drink recipe that I take to parties when there's alcohol involved. I always get rave reviews and requests for the recipe. Most people are surpised to find out what's in it.

Austin Margaritas

1 can frozen limeaide
1 16 oz. bottle of Sprite
1 16 oz. bottle of Corona beer
Tequila

Dump frozen limeade, Sprite, and beer in a pitcher with ice. Fill empty limeade can to the top with tequila and add to the limeade mix. Stir well and serve in glasses rimmed with salt if desired.

I don't see that they'd taste like tomato since the packet is a seasoning. Probably would have been better called an Italian pretzel or something since the spaghetti seasoning packet would be Italian seasonings. You could also use a taco seasoning packet for a taco taste.

I really enjoy the Ranch Oyster Crackers made in a similar way. I would think you could use the crackers, saltines even, and choose a seasoning you like and they'd be good.

I'm going to keep this one in mind and maybe give it a try over the holidays.

Okay, if a cook named cynic thought they might be good, I had to try. Well, they are just okay. The seasoning is actually pretty good, but I have a hunch the parmesan cheese in the recipe really should have been the shake stuff in the green canister, not the shredded stuff I actually had on hand. I could see putting these out with wine (red) and cheese, but probably not worth the overall effort.

quick update: my 9 year old son tried one and declared them "awesome". The reason? "They taste exactly like pizza goldfish". So there you have it.
