I've been looking into epoxy paint for use on a kitchen floor. Found out Benjamin Moore carries various types of industrial paints for various application- many of which are epoxy paints- check their website. Yes, I can testify that it is extremely waterproof- I had a house where we painted over a PLASTER WALL for use as a shower stall. It actually held up well for quite a few years with people taking showers daily-- occasionally some slight cracking at the edges but it was easily repaired. It is also commonly used as clear floor finishes in gymnasiums and as bar top finishes in bars and restaurants. Seems to only come in high gloss or semi gloss though so would you want a glossy house? Actually I just came to this forum to post a question about epoxy paints -- I might as well do so here-- are they hard to apply or not? Any pitfalls?

How difficult would it be if I wanted to paint over black kitchen lacquer cabinets? Could I just prime it, and then paint it over? I'm just afraid that the black might still show through. As ugly as the black cabinets are, they're better than some half ass job where you tried to cover it up but can still see through it.

Couple thoughts: You're masking them off yourself. What happens if something goes wrong. Are you getting all this on paper with sigs, or just talking it thru. I was kinda kidding, but kinda not about being in someone else's shop; I have a habit of thinking about the what if's. Can he help you, give you guidance about what to do after he sprays 'em. Like how long to wait and then how to subsequently mask off the lacquer so you can do the paint. Can he direct you to the primer and paint that you should use on the raw wood to complement the lacquer. Are we sure this is worth it? If he's not going to do the masking for you, maybe it would be easier, less work for you, to just let him spray the whole thing and you nail down the right process and products for painting after the fact.

...for durability and protection. I'm asking if it's necessary or recommended. I have seen others on the forums recommend poly over paint, so not having experience with painting cabinets, I am trying to find out about this particular scenario/plan. Thanks.
