Ron, are those ducks your pets?

Yes, I have three ducks and a chicken. My daughter-in-law teaches and Burt was hatched in an incubator as part of a biology project. At the end of the school year he needed a home. Two years ago we raised chickens to butcher and kept one for the eggs. Actually we kept two, a hen and a rooster, named Rufus. Last spring Rufus got mean. Twice he attacked Bigbaby in the yard. He came after her trying to claw her with his talons. She was yelling at him and throwing her water bottle at him and he just kept coming. The next day he was in the crockpot. He was huge. We had dinner for five, the next day chicken salad sandwiches for four, and there were still some leftovers.
I realize some of you will think this offensive. But, I grew up on a farm where we raised most of our own meat in addition to having a large vegetable garden. Meat comes from animals and not from the grocery store.

I don't think anyone would find this offensive, Ron. You cannot have household animals attacking people!! LOL! Rufus had a better life than the ones that grew that package of breasts in the styrofoam tray.

Great story Ron! and I love the duck picture...looks like he was saying "WHO do you think YOU are???"

Next day he was in the crockpot. LOL !!!

It's good to have a protective husband. Woe to anyone who comes after Bigbaby with talons! :-)

Ron, I think your Burt is cussing at Wolfy for actually LIKING the snow, lol.

I'm sure Rufus had it a lot better than any animal that winds up in the grocery store. I don't think I could do it, but I think you had good reason, Ron, and certainly don't think you could be faulted.

Great photos today. I loved your Rufus story, Ron. When my oldest was in kindergarten, they hatched chicken eggs. When it came time for them to find homes, no one wanted them. So we took them, with the understanding that if any turned out to be roosters, they would have to go. Two of them did. I was looking in the coop one day and they came up behind me and attacked me, just like Rufus did BigBaby. The back of my clothes were all torn up and I was huddled on the ground. Needless to say...those roosters took a trip.

Ron your story reminds me of my daughter. When she was about 4 or 5 I think she was spending sometime out at my parents farm and she was outside and they had a rooster named Lembke. She came running in the house and told her grandma that Lembke was calling her names. LOL
