I'm hopeless at accessoring. But that is a gorgeous EC! Can you share the mfg and the width of the total piece?

All three items on your top shelf are similarly sized and all of similar bulk. I like having three things, but perhaps you could play with differently sized or shaped objects on either side of the clock. Maybe one of your skinny vases on one side and something low and wide on the other. How about a bowl with greenery slightly hanging down? Obviously you wouldn't want to interfere with the TV, but just something to break the line a bit.

I always have a hard time until I try things out. I just keep changing things until something hits. It's tougher than it looks, for sure, and it's nice to get objective opinions.

I was going to suggest two plates, one on either side of the clock. But then I saw the two bunnies, which are extremely high on the "cute" quotient. I'd enjoy looking up at them and smiling. Whatever you decide, IMO the clock should stay centered. You have a very pleasing symmetrical look with the speakers and books on either side, and the rounded clock echoes the curve on the bridge. It looks good as it is.

I think the bunnies are too cuties (though I love them) for the weight of the unit.
Maybe leave the clock - then put in the clear candle holders, (not the skinny ones)put a book under on of them to make it alittle higher than the other one and maybe a third smaller candle/holder. Maybe a few family photo's on the other side.

Or put one of each candle holder on either side of the clock then something smaller in front of holders.

While I thing it looks great, "as is," it almost appears too perfect, if that makes sense. I agree with lovesummer about perhaps some greenery, also maybe place some of the books on their side with a small bird or other decorative accessory on top? You've got some great things to work with (love the bunnies.)

Do you have high ceilings? Would you consider putting something up on the very top of the unit? I like to draw the eye up and that would help. Also I think some of what you have on the unit is too close to the color of the wood and sort of disappears into the wood.

I love the 3 tall skinny pitchers in the 5th picture and would certainly use them somewhere on the unit.

I don't know about wiring and such, but could the speakers go in the large area next to the tv? That would free up a couple of shelves. I would try clock where it is with nothing else on that shelf. Move one shelf of books down to where the speakers are (if you can move them) and lose the other books, or do as someone suggested and put some on their side with an object on top. I'd put some things on top that are large enough they won't get lost; not too many and not too symmetrical. Maybe the large bowl on the table in a stand? I think a plant with some foliage draping down the side would look good up there, maybe in a rectangular planter.

The shelves are not adjustable, husband really likes those speakers in those shelves. Went around and around on this one, but I will see if he might consider moving them next to tv. Aesthetically, would be more pleasing. Have never liked those speakers there, so I move them back and often place something small in front of the speakers for visual interest. Interestingly, my husband generally has no opinions with decorating, picking fabric, etc., but don't mess with his music or tv!

The room has a vaulted ceiling, and while I would consider placing something on top, and have looked endlessly, I am not a big fan of clutter or something I will have to get on a ladder to dust!!! I like drawing the eye up, but with the height of this piece, i am back and forth about utilizing the top of the ent. ctr. I like a clean look and I have considered a large wrought iron clock (and would eliminate the mantle clock, of course), but have yet to find that perfect clock.

I, too, love those bunnies. They will find a home somewhere in my house! I had a green plant that out grew its living space!!! I liked the green plant there - anything to add life. I might have to buy another plant and start over. Those three little vases are actually olive oil pitchers from Italy and I love the colors and the size. Those are a possibility.

Thanks, everyone! Great suggestions and when I have some time, I am going to start playing around with it. I love to decorate, but find myself accessory-challenged at times.

I would ask your husband if the speakers can go on the shelf where the books are now. The reason being, it looks like the speakers are smaller than the books and it looks top heavy. Then I would put the little round ball with the bird on it, where the bowl/plate is on that side of the clock. If you think it looks too empty, put the smaller candlesticks on either side. A big of greenery on top would be gorgeous but you are right, it would be hard to water.

I really like your EC too. What do the candlesticks (in the glass) look like next to the mantle clock?

Auntie Ellen, I bought the piece from a local antique store that sold new furniture as well. This is not an antique, but I fell in love with the rustic look. I ordered it new and, unfortunately, the place went out of business one year ago due to the economy. I will go through my furniture file and see if it is listed on the order. I know this place used to deal with many reproductive type pieces made in England.

use them all..rotate with the seasons for color...it's a lovely piece...

could you lower the center shelf so that it's an inch or 2 closer to the tv?? to me, the tv looks alittle small/short for the big space and the items on the shelf look alittle squashed... lowering the shelf-about halfway the distance to the top of the tv would make it more visually appealing i think...

If your husband is willing to be a little flexible about the speakers, how about trying them on the very top of the EC, lying on their sides. That way you'd get the effect of them but they'd be mostly hidden behind the crown molding, and you'd have more shelves to play with. Maybe you could ask him to stand in the room, turn his back to the EC, and see if he can *hear* the difference with them either on the shelves or up on the top--if he can't hear the difference maybe he'd agree to a change.
