I bought the last b/w print you show there (pictured just above the b/w striped one). Mine is a Waverly fabric and is beautiful, but the background is really quite off-white and I think youll find it much creamier than the back ground of the stripe below it that you say you might use for the dust ruffle.

I love toile and think your idea of mixing another color with the black sounds great. I've seen it done with just the lime green. Although this link may not be for the age you're doing, it has some cute toile ideas.

I think mixing the multi color with the black and white would be awesome. As long as you don't have too many patterns on top of one another.

Thanks for the link. I really like the detail work in the duvets and pillows. I have the same concern regarding the white and black stripe in regards to the other patterns. I think it would work better with the middle pattern that is my daughter's favorite. I have requested samples of each before I make a final decision.

I love the multi stripe too. I am hoping once the samples come that she will be convinced that it's not too little girl just because it's pink! But it is her room soooooo, what can I do?

Here are the pieces I will need. A duvet, bedskirt, pillow shams, throw pillows, simple lined drapes, a cover for that tiny little ottoman (I plan to add foam to the top to make it taller), and a slip cover for a cheap staples computer chair.

I hope to do the duvet, shams and drapes in one of the black and white florals, so this will be the largest pattern in the room. I would like to do the bedskirt, computer chair and another set of shams in the stripe, preferrably the multi color but if not then the simple black and white.

This keeps it to just two patterns but I still need something for the ottoman. I'll keep looking for something less busy.

I found this comforter set today at Target. I'd prefer to sew something in order to get a more custom look but I wanted to get an idea of what the room would look like completed, so I bought it. Well, now my daughter really likes it and doesn't want me to take it back.

The problem is that it isn't very well made. The comforter while cute is rather flat and the pillow shams and bed skirt are really thin cotton. You can see her old stuff peeking out because the queen comforter is smaller than what she already has.

I found some nice Waverly drapes on line at Target and thought about sewing two together to make a duvet. I could split one down the middle and add it on either side of a panel which would give me 108" more than enough since her comforter is only 88".

It could be my monitor, because they all vary, but I don't see how those fabrics go well together. I particular the pink which does not seem to have a realted color with the other choices, and definately does not work with the suggested stripe for the bedskirt...

Have you seen them in person so you know they actually do work together???? As I say, the monitors can be quite a bit off sometimes.

As to the second option...is that a red or pink trim? And is there a blue? I'm not feeling it with the pretty walls, but again, maybe it's just my monitor.

By the way, Im not sure toile is a proper name for any of those...dosen't it have to have a picture?

I would go with the last two pieces of fabric. Then I would one statement color apple green, or pink or Yellow... but just one color and I would use it on the back side of some of the bed pillows. Trim the pillows with black velvet and use the two bottom pieces of fabric (that you have listed above)on the other side. You could even use a black checked fabric (on my laptop screen your fabric colors look black and white, except the one on top.) For the curtains use the motif number three fabric and on the back side the strip fabric. The tie backs could be checked fabric or a true toile du Jouey trimmed in the "one" splash color (apple green, pink or yellow for example.)

What if you put a white matelasse on the bed and fold the comforter from Target on the end so it looks thicker.

I haven't seen the fabrics other than on-line. I had planned on ordering fabric swatches after I narrowed it down.

The target comforter I posted above is trimmed in hot pink. You see her current lavender pillow sham peaking out, which does not stay. And yes, I realize none of these are toile. My DD did not care for the fabrics with "scenes" so we are going with a damask instead. I failed to change the thread title.

I'm not very good at visualizing how something will look, which is why I didn't want to spend hundreds of $$'s on fabric and then hate it. This was the primary motivation of buying the Target comforter. To see if I would actually like a black and white print with the lime green walls. I do like the look, just not this comforter.

I also ordered the damask drapes from Target.com and received them today. They are much nicer than the comforter set. I have two on the bed to give the illusion of a duvet. I also found a striped sheet set that I have strategically draped to look like a bed skirt. Target has a comforter set in this line but it is only available in king and the reviews state that the comforter is rather thin and cheaply made like the one above. Therefore, I am considering making my own out of two drapes.

Cost wise the purchased drapes from Target would be about equal to the cost of one of the fabrics above and the material to line them.

The ones from Target are 96" but still about 8" too short. I could solve this by lowering my draper rods about 4" and adding rings so that the panels drape softly rather than shirr on the rod.

So, I really like this. Now I just have to decide whether to use keep these drapes along with the two extra to make the duvet. Or start from scratch and custom make everything using one or two of the fabrics above. The advantage of making my own would be to have the full 106" height that I need for the drapes without having to move the rod. But then again, it would be easier to move two rods than make four drapes!

Another option could be to sew about 8" of solid black to the bottom and have a somewhat two-toned look.

The only thing I'm unsure about is the mock up of the bed skirt. I kind of think the bed skirt needs to be bold and contrast with the bedding.

Are you guys sure the bright pink stripe fabric wouldn't work for a bedskirt???

Well -- I don't sew (LOL!) so I do think that the Target items are just wonderful in your daughter's room! I would simply move the curtain rods!

And yes -- the lime green does have the visual strength to balance out the black-and-white damask fabric. The color will be amazing on all of the walls!

As for the bedskirt -- why not keep things simple -- and have it match the bedding?

THEN add some bright lime green pillows to the bed! Maybe make them with plain black backing for a mix-and-match look?

Add lots of family and friends black-and-white photos (mat in lime green or even lime gran AND pink) frame alike in black around the room.

You could even add a bulletin board (check Target's office section ....) and customize it to work in the room too.

Or perhaps a full-length mirror in black or silver?

Just some thoughts!! Glad your daughter is so pleased with the changes! :)
