Vent hood for 36' RNB Blue Star

What cfm is required for this range and should it be a bit larger like 42" wide. One of the cabinet places mentioned that to me. Any recommendations on the best brands? It will probably be enclosed by a hood that matches the cabs.

There is a FAQ on the appliance forum and it will answer many of your questions. A search on the appliance forum would also provide you with a lot of discussion on the different hood manufacturers.

As noted, if you check the applaince forum you will get more info. However, I too am getting a 36" Bluestar range and will be putting a pro-style 42" wide Independent 18" Incline hood over it. You want the capture area to extend 3" on each side - hence the 42" wide hood.

Some recommend extending the capture area in front as well - going with a 27" deep hood vs 24" deep. I debated this for a while myself and am going just with the 24" deep version since I am tall and those extra 3" sticking out over the range will be more of a hassle in using the range top than the benefits I would achieve from it

I have the 36" ,6 burner Bluestar range. I love it. My thoughts were, if I want a griddle I'll use my big cast iron one on the burner. As for grilling I would never want the splatter, clean up mess. I do all my grilling outside, year round. No mess and much better flavor. Cleaning the cast iron grates takes some time, so I wanted to limit the mess. Plus I like to be able to slide a pan off a burner at times while cooking and would not want a griddle in the way. Not sure this was any help. Might I suggest calling the factory? I called twice before ordering mine to ask important questions. Both times I got right through and my questions were answered. Good luck!

Someone about a year ago had a problem with their wood hood installation. Although it had a stainless liner, the wood edge was too close to the range and she couldn't get it to pass inspection. I think the choice was to raise it, or have some stainless fabricated to cover the edges.

1)Not likely, for one, your wall backsplash would be 1" further away than the 6" high range version, and two, the island trim would keep the flame from spreading. Anyway, I've not heard reports of it happening. Which doesn't mean it can't happen with the right pot, and the flames coming up the sides. 2) Again, I've not heard of it happening, but if the oven were on, perhaps the venting might affect the airflow. This was really only some concern with Wolf Ranges and even then, not confirmed, but I thought I'd mention it, since I don't have island trim against the wall and can't speak from experience. However, others here have island trim and have never reported any problem.

Hello. I haven't been back on this site in years but now that I'm thinking of doing over my bathroom I came back. Macswim, the BlueStar has worked perfectly since install. I haven't had any problems with igniters, the door, excessive heat, etc. It's a workhorse. I like how the cast iron grill stars and pans below them come out for cleaning. Some of those stars -- on the burners I use most -- have shown some wear but not in an unattractive way. As for the stove, I would say the broiler is a bit small and it has hot spots. That is, if you are broiling two porkchops, say, when you flip them over you might want to switch the one on the left to the right and vice versa -- same with front to back. In short, easy to clean, looks sharp, and well made. Also, I have two thermometers to check the stove temperature. An Oxo and another brand that are pretty close together in their readings. I'd say the stove runs maybe 10-15 degrees cooler than than the dial on the BlueStar says. (So 350 by the dial is really about 335-340 -- I think.)

I just recently put in my 36" RNB Blue Star with a 36" Independent hood. I originally was looking at the 42" hood and was advised that the 36" was enough. Very true. Can't believe how powerful it is. It is a little noisy (can't have a conversation from someone in the other room) but I think it is a good trade off for the space saved. Just my opinion! Good Luck!
