Thanks for giving me an opportunity to get on my soapbox.

I've linked you to the Monterey Bay Aquarium's Seafood Watch program. They promote and advocate sustainable seafood harvesting, be it for environmental, healthful eating, or fish population concerns. They provide printable guides you can take with you shopping so you know what to look for. For example, I've all but stopped eating farmed salmon.

Once you narrow down what you are comfortable with, we can go from there.

Shambo, try the corvina. I is a mild white semi firm fish, similar ot tilapia. Hard to find in my area, but whenI see it I order it.

For what it's worth, dh had wahoo once and talked about it for years. He would always look for it at seafood restaurants.

the only thing I've had on that list is flounder, Elery and I just had flounder stuffed with crab on Wednesday night. It's a nice mild fish, I can recommend it.

Opah is an excellent choice. I buy it in thick steaks, and it is somewhat like a cross between tuna and swordfish - more flavor than swordfish but less than tuna. Sometimes I make a marinade for it with soy sauce, fresh ginger, sesame oil, wasabi, garlic, and black vinegar. Grill it the same way you do tuna steaks.

Jessy, I printed out the pocket guide from the Monterey Bay Aquarium. The local fish monger gets his stuff fresh from his own boat or from other boats fishing in Northern California, Washington, Oregon, & even Alaska. No farm raised fish at all. His specials this week included frozen-at-sea salmon, red snapper, a couple of different tunas, and black sea bass. He has other items that don't have sale pricing.

I was curious about the fish I listed even though they aren't on special this week. I've never had corvina, wahoo (ono) or opah before, nor had I really even heard of them.

Since he's doing a weekly pick-up nearby (with a pre-order), I want to take advantage of this service. I've been buying his fish all summer at my local farmer's market, and the quality has been excellent.
