Sat in the Royal Box one Christmas Day watching camel races as the guests of one of the Royal Princes in Dubai. We were surrounded by machine toting bodyguards, so it was a little hard to concentrate on the camels!

I sang background on a record.

Mine are rather tame, but fun: I wrote the caption for a cartoon that was published in The New Yorker, and I wrote a limerick that Bob Barker read on The Price is Right.

And I started a La Leche League group in a rural area that had never had any breastfeeding support.

Oh, and I made out with Wayne Brady. Sorry, that was probably just a dream. And besides, I'm guessing it's not all that unusual an occurance. :-)

I have had lung surgery. My lung colapsed 3 times, after the 3rd tubing, I decided I needed to have the surgery everyone was trying to talk me out of. VERY, VERY painful surgery. I barely talked for a week as it just hurt too much to take in enough air to talk.

Nothing very interesting, and a couple things I wouldn't mention. ;-)

I did sell a greeting card idea to a card company once.

In 1996 I spent two weeks in Nicaragua helping to build a school in a very remote area. We tied rebar, used mortar to cement the bricks, mixed cement on the ground by adding buckets of river water to the sand, rock and cement mix and mixing it with shovels. We worked side by side with the people of the village.

I did what Leslie did...dropped toys into cereal boxes. Heck, I've even cooked and milled the Corn Flakes, Frosted Flakes and Rice Krispies you've eaten.
I've operated a large crane.
I've gotten a state master's electrical license. I was the first woman in Tennessee to do that.
Mine aren't as interesting as some of the others, but some of them are unique.
There's that thing I did back in the middle 70s that I can't tell about. Now that I think about it, I can't believe I did it, even on a dare.

Been to The Great Wall of China!

While guest at a university in China, performed The Hokie Pokie in front of 1500 students, along with 3 other travel companions.

I participated in a "father/son" hockey game ~ but as the only "mother/daughter" combo in the league. I played right wing and she played center position!

Let's see.....raised and trained a team of Malamutes and ran in the BrianHead Sled Dog Races for 2 of the 3 years we had it. Raised and trained a horse and rode in 2 30 mile endurance races. Currently raising and training an Aussie puppy in agility to take over from my retired Aussie agility dog. Training my husband's Aussie to herd sheep. Spent one summer with friends and their dogs on weekends and received our 100 mile award for hiking. It's been a fun ride!!

Nothing as exciting as those above. Worked 15 years in a hospital for the developmentally disabled.
Started the local health dept. in this county in 1987, there hadn't been one prior to that. One of a half dozen counties out of 114 in the state that didn't have one at that time, now all counties have one.

My claim to uniqueness is much more pedestrian than most of the exotic things that you folks have done ... well, maybe "pedestrian" isn't quite the correct term.

I have a car with a standard transmission.

When I'm driving in the city and a traffic light goes yellow a half block ahead, ofen I push in the clutch and turn the key off, if everything along the route seems normal - no sense in wasting gas!

Power steering assist is lost, but I'm travelling straight ahead, and am strong enough to turn the wheel quickly if necessary.

In any case, I can have he car running in less than one second.

Suppose a kid runs out from behind a parked car ...

... I have a couple of residual power-assisted applications of the brakes available before I must push really hard in order to get any braking capabiliy.

I usually arrive at the light just after it has turned green and the cars in my lane are beginning to move again, so I don't need to stop. Starting a stopped car takes more power than speeding up some when you're already rolling.

Sometimes, if I don't have another motorist behind me ready to crawl up my tailpipe, I turn the engine off while going downhill, as well.

Some have said here that they think tha's illegl, or that it is, in their state, but when I've asked several police people arond here, they will only say that one has an obligation to be in charge of one's vehicle at all times.

Belonged to a riding troop called...Long Beach Vaqueras...so did Aunt Mae.

We rode in parades and rodeo's. Also, rode from Long Beach CA. to Elsinore, CA....about 90 miles....those were days before freeway.

I drove across Roswell and White Sands by myself at 2:00 am. I was praying the whole time. It was very dark! No cars. I was so scared I drove all the way to El Paso before I could sleep.

I married the man who is my husband.

I've done a few things most haven't done but I can't write the book until I'm the last one standing. Statute of limitations ya know.

When we were in Sydney years ago DD and I went swimming in a beach lagoon that was literally teaming with scores of small beautiful creatures skimming the surface of the water. We asked those passing by what they were and no one seemed to know.

Later at home we learned that these beautiful iridescent blue octopus were one of the world's deadliest creatures. A bite will paralyze and kill you within hours and you may not know you've been bitten in order to seek help in time.

Ooh, ooh . . . Lindsey's post reminded me that I received a kiss from Harry Belafonte. How could I have forgotten??

I flew in an F-16, and attempted to do an aleron (sp?) roll after the pilot gave me control. It would've been fun if it didn't make me sicker than a dog.

Went white water rafting in Austria.

Used to Volksmarch when I was stationed in Germany-ok lot of people do this but not many who are here at the KT.

Licked and kept a stone from the Dead Sea.

That's all I can think of right now.

I inspected a lot of the circuit boards that were in the computors in the 70's and 80's.Back then computors were the size of a closet,and i inspected them from start to finish.

Before that i assembled connectors for many of the space ships at NASA.I didn't work directly for NASA,but for a company here in Calif that made the parts for them and Mc Donnell Douglas and others.

I loved factory work,so interesting to see how things are made,and to know you had a small part in it.

Dinner for Hubert Humphrey, but after waiting until 11 pm, he was held up, and we ate without him!

Our cousins sent us 2 gecko lizard eggs from Hawaii through the mail (shhh). I packed them in peat moss, put them under a heat lamp, and hatched them. One lived for only a few weeks, the other almost 1 year.

I belonged to a precision dance team (think Rockettes only not very good). I think our biggest gig was either a VA hospital or a prison.

I lived in Okinawa for a year and once a friend and I stowed away on an airplane and went to New York City. (We had help from a member of the ground crew who had a major crush on my friend.) We had to pay our way home but had a marvelous day in NY. It was the year of the World's Fair and we saw Michaelangelo's Pieta at the airport. What a day!

OK I stand by my earlier post on not sharing the truly weird things that have touched my life but in the vein of some other responses I will say:

I've been a competitive roller skater

I've driven in a demolition derby (NOT powder puff)

I've been a member of an adult precision ice skating team

I've worked in a carnival

I own and wear a set of of "Heelies" at the ripe old age of almost 57

I have gone out to breakfast in pajamas and a red hat

I got to name a rescued sea otter

I gave birth to a child who could put our list here to shame. His friends say he should have his own action figure. LOL

Had a baby girl on my birthday, my year 1947, her year 1974.

Was Associate Editor of American Rifleman magazine for 3.5 years.

Ate elephant.

Was patrol leader of the patrol for the only Klondike Derby my scout troop ever won.

Helped butcher 15 pigs in one day.

Served 10 years on the board of my homeowner's association.

Own a Leonberger.

I can't think of a thing as unusual and exciting as most of your lists.
I guess I'm just really ordinary. I'd better start living!

Built an addition onto my house from footings in the ground to shingles on the roof, framing, insulation, windows, doors, sheathing, siding, drywall, paint, ceramic tile all by myself. As a reward, I built a bar too!
