I would like to install hardware now because I've been wanting to do this for years but have been waiting to paint the cabinets, which just hasn't happened yet. I don't like having to touch the drawers and doors in order to open them and they do get dirty faster. I also thought it might look better to have hardware. We just replaced the old, hard water damaged faucet to a nice new Hansgrohe faucet and even that improvement, though small, makes me happy :) As jbrig mentioned, I'm now back to wondering whether we should paint the cabinets if we're going to sell the house. I have posted on this before and still keep going back and forth as to whether it's a good idea to spend time and money painting and/or replacing the appliances if a new buyer might just want to tear it all out anyway! Besides painting, I priced appliances over the weekend and it would probably be around $7,000 to replace the Kitchenaid appliances with new stainless steel (if I buy them at Sears Outlet as they become available - would be over $10,000 if I just purchase them all at once from regular appliance store). I'm going to follow up with the agent on this to get more advice. If changing the kitchen won't help us sell or increase our selling price, then I might want to put that money towards my next kitchen instead :) If I do paint, it's a great idea to try out different colors on poster boards and then ask for input on GW. I'll definitely do that! JessHS - we used Sherwin Williams Antique White throughout our whole house on all the doors and trim (pillars, windows, crown, baseboard, etc.). It's a very pretty creamy white in our house, not too yellow or drab, and works well with our walnut stained floors and warm neutrals. I'm just not sure if it will work with the counters. Uh-oh. I spent my morning looking for pulls like the first one pictured. I have accidentally bumped into trendy (again!) without meaning to. Our 1936 house came with glass knobs and window pulls that look like the RH stuff and I was hoping to pick something similar for our new kitchen/addition. From what I can see, lots of manufacturers produce similar pulls, usually called window lifts, sash pulls or utility pulls. Some are cheaper coated zinc but the better and more expensive ones are solid brass and can be found plated in different finishes, which varies by manufacturer. You need to try different search terms to find them online because different manufacturers call them different names, but generally they are intended for window hardware, not kitchen cabinets, so if you look at a manufacturer or hardware site under a cabinet hardware subheading they won't show up. So far I have found similar pulls made by Baldwin (solid brass), Samuel Heath (UK), Schlage (solid brass), Croft (UK), Ives, Rocky Mountain, Merit Metal (solid brass), Brass Accents and Deltana (solid brass). One of these may be the actual manufacturer for RH. Some are less expensive than RH, like Schlage and Ives, some are similar, like Baldwin. I don't know why Deltana is so pricey but maybe somebody else can shed light on this company and why it charges more. For the larger sizes, look for what are called cabin door pulls. Merit Metal has some great looking ones, though not cheap. It seems like hardware meant for marine use has to be sturdier, so I have found some great-looking hardware at sites selling to boat and yacht owners (cool lighting for bathrooms, too). I haven't gotten to the glass knob matching yet, so if anybody has done research on those maybe we can start a different thread.

Well actually, they go in next week! Even though they'll probably be all installed by next Tuesday or Wednesday I'll have to wait until the following Saturday to see them because I have to be out of town. Rotten timing. This week so far they knocked down some walls, put up a support beam, replaced our triple casement window, removed an old sliding glass door, removed sheet rock. Tomorrow they install the recessed lights, put up the new sheet rock, attend to some plumbing, move the gas line for the stove. I'm all tingling with anticipation : ) It's been a long time. I think this addition and remodel has been harder than when we built the house 21 years ago. But it will be well worth it. I'm not complaining. Actually I feel very, very blessed. : )

I had an allowance for knobs/pulls from my kitchen designer. Spent well over that with RH knobs and pulls, but worth it imo. However, his installer was more than happy to install the hardware I purchased exactly where I wanted. When some knobs/pulls went missing from the job site, or damaged pieces were discovered, he happily came back another time to finish putting in the remaining hardware. (and RH was extremely good about taking back returns of damaged and/or overpurchased hardware. Lucky for me there is a store nearby!) I'm sure if my GC's guys put in my hardware they would have found a way to screw that up! (hate my GC...)
