Why doesn't the kitchen flow well with the rest of the house? Seeing the cabs and hardware elsewhere in the house would help.

californiagirl - I think it's because we've updated the rest of the house so everything is newer and to our own tastes, while this kitchen was done by the previous owner in 1999. It's held up well but could use some refreshing.

amck - thanks so much for your input. It makes sense that the Costco pulls would appeal to more potential buyers. Painting the cabinets antique white would be my first choice, since this is the color we've used on all the trim throughout the house and it would definitely complement the Believable Buff wall color (one color down on the color strip).

I was just considering a different color because another poster mentioned that my counters appear to have a pinkish undertone, and I was wondering if the yellowish Antique White would contrast and make them appear more pink. Edgecomb Gray seems to be a warm neutral with a maybe a touch of red that might tone down the counters.

Here's an inspiration picture I have for painting the cabinets. It seems to be a light gray with a glaze pinstripe detail.

Have you looked at Overstock.com for cabinet hardware? We saved almost $200 on ours, and they have all types of hardware finishes. Ours are black Stone Mill knobs and cup pulls, and we are very pleased with them.

I am looking on my phone so it is hard to see the pics at the other thread well, but it sure looks like the right paint would freshen up the kitchen in line with the nearby spaces.

Buy some white posterboard and small paint samples to try out large blocks of colors before you commit. Then choose the hardware after your painting is all finished by getting samples (you can open those cabs without hardware) and repeating the selection process.

Take photos both times and post here if you are unsure. Slower but surer, while you save on paint and designer fees.

Ugghh. Antique White. Please pick a different color. I say this because my entire house, walls and trim, was painted in Antique White by the previous owner, just prior to sale. I really dislike the color- too dingy looking as it is not white, or cream, but some yellowy version in between. I'm slowly getting the entire house repainted, but I'm looking at it on my family room walls as I type this.

You might want to check on ebay for your hardware, also.

Like you, we plan on moving in the next couple of years, but I wanted to replace/update the knobs in my kitchen, laundry room, and upstairs bathroom (~75 knobs). I found a great price on ebay for the knobs I wanted--it averaged out to $1.21 per knob--vs $3.24 at our local Lowe's. I paid ~$92 for 76 knobs, compared to $246 at Lowe's, thus saving over $150 on already inexpensive knobs :-)

The ebay seller's ID was judlar3. My transaction was very smooth. (I have no affiliation w/ her; just wanted to give props to a reputable seller)

Oh, I also meant to suggest that, if you are at all ambivalent about whether to paint your cabs, that you make a separate post about that. From everything I've read here, it is a formidable job to do it well--can be very time consuming, even for a small kitchen. There have been other posters who have debated this question, too, (including myself) especially given that you are moving.

For me personally, I have decided that I am not going to invest the time, energy and money to paint my cabs when the next buyer may very well like the stained look--or even just desire a different color ;-) But if I did, I was planning on doing Antique White, also. I suspect it depends on each home's lighting and room orientation, but it does not look dingy in the other rooms I've used that color but just a soft creamy white/ivory, esp next to Believable Buff.

I would like to install hardware now because I've been wanting to do this for years but have been waiting to paint the cabinets, which just hasn't happened yet. I don't like having to touch the drawers and doors in order to open them and they do get dirty faster. I also thought it might look better to have hardware. We just replaced the old, hard water damaged faucet to a nice new Hansgrohe faucet and even that improvement, though small, makes me happy :)

As jbrig mentioned, I'm now back to wondering whether we should paint the cabinets if we're going to sell the house. I have posted on this before and still keep going back and forth as to whether it's a good idea to spend time and money painting and/or replacing the appliances if a new buyer might just want to tear it all out anyway! Besides painting, I priced appliances over the weekend and it would probably be around $7,000 to replace the Kitchenaid appliances with new stainless steel (if I buy them at Sears Outlet as they become available - would be over $10,000 if I just purchase them all at once from regular appliance store). I'm going to follow up with the agent on this to get more advice. If changing the kitchen won't help us sell or increase our selling price, then I might want to put that money towards my next kitchen instead :)

If I do paint, it's a great idea to try out different colors on poster boards and then ask for input on GW. I'll definitely do that!

JessHS - we used Sherwin Williams Antique White throughout our whole house on all the doors and trim (pillars, windows, crown, baseboard, etc.). It's a very pretty creamy white in our house, not too yellow or drab, and works well with our walnut stained floors and warm neutrals. I'm just not sure if it will work with the counters. I love bright white kitchens, but I think that might look out of place in our house. I do like Edgecomb Gray though.
