SW Latte/Kilim Bg & Accent Walls....

Hi all! I'm down to the nitty gritty with my paint selection and I have a few questions....

Do SW Kilim Beige and SW Latte have enough constrast to have one of them serve as an accent? Also considering tossing in some Hopsack....I have pretty good daylight.

Is an accent color always darker than the other color? Is it better to have the accent a completely different color than simply darker of the same color?

Has anyone used a green that complements Kilim Bg or Latte? How about a blue (for DS room) or yellow (DD room) that complements those....

I know I've got a couple more questions running through my head...but those are the main ones for now.

I'm not a decorator but personally have thought of accent colors as being darker than the field color of a room. Guess the opposite would work too.

I just repainted our entry/living/dining rooms. SW Latte was used for accent in the entry, then Kilim Beige in the LR/DR. Our space too is fairly bright and I belive the contrast is sufficient. No green or blue are included in the paint or fabric colors but with the neutral of the beige the right shade of them should work well.

I haven't mastered posting photos so bear with me. We are in the midst of repainting and are using SW Latte - Durations Matte. It went on quite well but I always use 2 coats. Our home is full of angular walls and the lighting causes a color shift in photos. I plan to take some with a better camera in a few weeks but maybe these will help you now. The wall in following photo and the adjacent one behind the secretary are both Latte. Disregard the inside of the niche as it is an entirely different color but didn't photo accurately. I would get samples. Sometimes people have reported Kilim to have band aid look. Kilim has a slight green undertone compared to my BM Shaker Beige walls (they have a red undertone). If you start comparing paint chips with other chips you'll be able to see undertones. I have another room painted Manchester Tan and it's a very nice color. A little lighter than Kilim and has a subtle green undertone, but I honestly had a hard time even seeing it until I tried to determine what it was. If you're unsure, and looking to stay away from fleshy colors, I'd pick Manchester for sure. It is slightly putty looking and a little cooler, but no flesh tones. I can take photos later if you'd like. Photos of Manchester Tan from Adventures in decorating blog look pretty accurate to real life on my monitor. I have latte in my kitchen & backroom and really like it. I have had problems with other beiges looking pinky, peachy or greenish in certain light but I have no problems with this color (or Nomadic Desert). I think how it looks really has to do with the lightening & other colors in the room, etc. So what looks good in one room may not look good in another. Sorry - this photo was taken before any accessories (or the coffee table) were in but it should give you an idea...

Those have been popular colors. We used SW Latte as an accent color in our foyer, then dropped several shades to Kilim Beige for the LR/DR. Our rooms are pretty light during the day but with high ceilings we did not want the space too dark at night. There have been recent posts about color undertones to these paint hues. I believe it depends on your lighting or surroundings in the room. You could search the site to read them. Pleased with our choices. In the photo below, Latte is behind the secretary and to the left with Kilim Beige to the right. If you follow the link from "My Page" there are more room pictures. Good luck.

Thanks for the comments. The office is Ralph Lauren Cameroon Green. Sorry, neither Kilim or Latte nearby. The hallway is Divine White which is from the same card but with a doorway separating there is no conflict.

The lamps in the office were purchased at a furniture store a long time ago. The shades are a distressed, frosted glass - somewhat like metal which has been hammered.

fnmroberts...Thanks for sharing! I went to HD this a.m. and got a huge stack of paint chips, including cameroon green! :) It looks a little dark in real life to me. It would possibly be in the office, and maybe an accent wall in LR. Both have good sun. Does it look dark to you after you've painted the whole room?

DH also really liked your wood tone in the office! I went back to check your pics again to refresh my memory, and I found even more that I like....what is your powder room paint? Is that a sueded finish? And...love the pergola!

We must be some sort of kindred spirits! Thank you again for sharing! Your pics and info are really helping DH and I in the communication department!

Yes, the Cameroon Green is a bit darker in real life than shows the posted photo, but in my opinion not dark at all. We originally painted the color about 6 years ago and liked it so just freshened it with a new coat this winter. We only have 1 window in the office and, of course, the doorway.

The wood floor in the office is Brazilian Cherry and was just installed this past winter. We like it too, thanks.

The Powder Room is actually wall paper. It is embossed paper and I'll NEVER hang something like it again, but yes, we like the color.

The Pergola was last summers project. Glad the photos are serving you in the idea department - that's what they are intended to do. We do everything DIY here so alot of compromise is reached before projects are undertaken.
