At $4.95 per gallon for propane, nearly double from previous years, we have spent roughly $3,000 so far, to heat 1600 sq. ft. Well insulated double wide. The highest indoor temp during the day is 68-69 and nighttime is 63. I could have it lower at night, but DH had frostbite in Korea which will always be sensitive to cold.

Frankly, I think we have all been royally shafted which will eventually be proven, but we sure won't get any rebates.

We already paid for the extra gas we used this winter. That is a pretty poor excuse to raise the price. I think it is more likely that they are raising the price so that we can pay for the lawsuits they are receiving for gas line leaks.

We don't use gas but one of our daughters does and it was up around five dollars a gallon. She did not buy any to heat their home for awhile, now it has dropped just a bit. She used electric heaters for awhile.

I am on dual fuel, which is another story!! But my natural gas bill nearly doubled this past month, and I'm hoping it is because of the extreme cold instead of a cost increase.

march 20, paid $281 gas...dte (electric) $341...electric is high because of space heater supplementing the boiler heat, in the kitchen...figure it's a good investment to keep pipes warm...

during the summer gas averages about $35...(or did)

Our natural gas bill for January was $380. February was $350. No price increase, just a really COLD winter here, north of Chicago. Last winter January was $220, and February was $230.

We have gas heating, water heaters, clothes dryer, small boiler for under-floor heat in two north-facing rooms. House is newer and tight -- 2900 sq ft single level with basement and attic. We're 68F days and 64F at night.

No complaints here in Colorado. We heat our 2800sqft home with natural gas, 6 burner commercial gas range, hot water heater AND gas dryer. Our highest bill was $181.

We have a LOT of double paned windows that naturally heat the house. The 22' high ceilings should be a problem, since heat rises, but seems to be fine.......

Our gas costs were even higher three years ago, before our city joined with other suburbs to negotiate a deal with a supplier other than the company that delivers the gas.

I envy you, Nicole! Our house is about the same size as yours, built in 2001 with all insulated glass -- much of it facing south. This house is so tight I can't hear a car coming right up to the front door on our gravel driveway unless a window is open.

OOPS! I mis-spoke. Dh said the gas bill was high, $181! I got out the checkbook register.....GAS "AND" ELECTRIC .....both.....together were $180.80 for December, January was $174.69, February $150.09.

We keep the house @ 58F, but with the sun shinning in it's 70 during the day.

Our house is "not" that air tight, it could be better. Water and sewer is around $58 a month in the winter..

I think that they said that there was less gas in storage than in earlier years, and with the hard winter and heavy usage, it's now scarce. Whether they can get more pushed through the lines at higher cost, I don't know.

They also said that the propane storage levels were low last fall, and there was some suggestion that, this being known, perhaps less should have been allocated to farmers and grain storage people to dry grain, if there may have been some worry that there might not be enough to heat houses.

I don't think that I'd bought furnace oil for my furnace in this old 2-bedroom farmhouse since summer, and had about $1,000.00 fuel delivered in the first week of January ... and when the furnace inspection people were in the other day (insurance co. request, prior to renewal) they noted that there's still about a quarter of a tank in place.

I was in error about the suburbs negotiating a better price -- that was for electricity, not natural gas. Our electric bills have decreased a lot since that took effect. Still, February electric bill was $108. (We have under-tile heat in our north-facing master bathroom and fridge/freezer, cooktop and oven are electric.)

Our gas bill shows we used 404 Therms in February, and the total was $350. (I'm rounding.) There is a delivery charge of $70. The gas itself costs 57 cents per therm ($228) plus various other smaller fees ($25). Taxes total $26.

The average daily temperature here in February was only 18F.

OJ, contrary to what I read, you mentioned that "they said there was less gas in storage, than in earlier years," according to the front page article in today's paper, that Enbridge has applied to Ontario regulators for a nearly 40% hike in energy rates ***just one month after predicting that its massive storage capacity should mute any price increase***. What crooks.

People are wanting the CEO of Ontario Hydro to step aside as well, because of massive charges on people's hydro bills. One local company generally pays $4200 every 2 months, and his estimated bill was over $240,000! There are thousands of complaints against Hydro One for erroneous billing

The companies usually buy gas at low prices in summer and put it into storage, and I don't know where the lower than usual storage levels last fall were reported to be: it may not have been in this area.

But now their supplies are low and they have to buy more at high prices, so figure that they must pass those costs on (with how much extra added as gravy, I have no way of knowing). And whether they're asking for 40%, figuring that they may get 25%, I don't know, either: you know how wage negotiations go, between companies and unions.
