Oven temperature weirdness in GE Profile electric range
Comments (19)Avidchef, Although this thread is about electric ranges, I have the same issue as you have, along with another issue in my 10 year old Profile gas range. I've been finding that my oven temps, long after stabilization times, are frequently, but not always 50 degrees lower than the setpoint. In addition, if I use the touch panel to raise the temp, many times the temp will not raise. I have to shut down the oven and restart with the new temp. I had a repair person here through my Home Warranty; he's going to replace the control panel and a temp sensor next week when the parts come in. He said because of the design of the range - the oven vents directly beneath the electronic control panel - and I often use temps above 500, it probably shortened the life of the control panel. Other than that, I have had no other issue with this range. It's been an absolute workhorse and for my co-pay of $95, I expect to have many more years of service out of it. Comments (68)Edit away Lavendar_Lass...that's what the layouts are for! :-) You're spot on about protecting the Prep & Cooking Zones - the last thing you need is a crowd of people traipsing through those work areas! Beach rentals often have a crowd staying there - so accept that and plan for it. While those zones are protected, others can help (or kibitz) from the two sides of the island not in the main work area. Click on the picture to see it bigger. Zone map: Click on the picture to see it bigger. Hmmm....you can't read the labels - especially the text at the bottom left. Here it is: If you can "steal" space from the LR and you don't mind losing the chair space (in the LR), consider a raised pony wall b/w the kitchen and LR with a counter that's 12" deeper than the pony wall for bar-height (42" tall) seating on the LR side. If you don't want to lose the chair, then just have a raised pony wall with a shallow counter to act as a "pass through" to the LR for snacks, etc. It will give you space for an outlet on the wall and hide any snack "mess" or part of a coffeemaker from the LR. The pony wall won't interfere with the view/light. (Nor will the seats at the counter in the LR.)...See MoreAny bakers who adore their electric range's oven?
Comments (19)Bumping this to ask again, does anyone who really cooks have gripes against the GE Profile Double Oven (electric smoothtop 5 burner) with Small Oven on top and large convection on bottom at floor level? Consumer Reports doesn't like one of the Profile model's broilers very much but I don't think this model is even rated at all in the Kitchen issue. It's one of the few white ranges I like (abandoning the wait for an affordable white induction range) and it's under $1000. I suspect we'd use the small oven most of the time, even if not convection, but when we need the larger oven, it would cook really well--no hot spots, reliable baking times, and no oven heat exhaust up through one burner like our old calrod range. The Hunter's wife may have a revenge after all. Thanksgiving is next week...haven't made plans yet, but am looking at calendar in anticipation....meanwhile DH came home from the Canadian border with two deer yesterday, went bird hunting again this morning, and has made a date to kill deer in an orchard property near the St. Croix next week using a borrowed muzzle loader, sigh. Comments (6)There are a number of induction threads if you do a search for the word, they should pop up. I traded my electric for a Samsung Chef induction double oven with warming drawer. The drawer is really low and since it's just DH and me, we don't turn it on and use it for storage. I think it bakes unevenly, although it has two baking "modes" and although we use the small top oven, which fits a smaller roasting pan, we rarely need both ovens. It is convertible to one oven. But I would never go back to an electric top over an induction. Never. As I said in another thread, I've actually been using a Tovala counter top combi-steam oven because I love the way it cooks but it is a one or two person appliance....See MoreUser
