Exterior painting and 17 year locusts (cicadas)

Not sure which forum to post this, but thought I'd start here. We live in the Chicago area and are expecting zillions of 17 year locusts (cicadas) to emerge in late May and die off in August. Our house and deck are in dire need of restaining and repainting and we had planned to do it this Spring/Summer.

Here's our very strange question:

Will the cicadas likely create a problem for us? Can they ruin the paint/stain so much that we would end up needing to redo the job? I have no idea if these little buggers would stick to wet stain/paint or if we would need to scrape them off the deck. Stories abound about people using shovels to clear dead cicadas from their driveways and walkways during the last emergence in 1990.
