Help with light blue for bedroom & lavendar for toddler room

Hi all,

I am looking for a very light soothing blue for my master bedroom. In my current home I have Benjamin moore's cumulus cloud and it is a little too blue. Suggestions would be appreciated. I am also looking for a light lavendar for my daughter's room I put up samples of Benjamin Moores beach plum and lily lavendar and they are a little too bright does anyone know of a soothing calm lavendar?

I usually use BM as well, and have had good success taking a paint chip from some other brand that offers the exact color I'm seeking and having the BM guy use his computer to match it.

Take a look at BM Aura angelica AF-665 & nightingale AF-670, 2 really nice toned down light lavender/violets. Good luck!

I read the other responses, but this is what I would do... I would change out the blue color, maybe a limish green or a blue than is more similar to the blue in the bottom butterfly wings on the quilts or the background in one of your pictures. Obviously, not that bright, but more in that color tone. Painting the trim would make it more girlish, but I think you could make some other changes before making that decision. If you have it in your budget to buy fabric, I would cover your beds in a solid color fabric to make the quilts pop more. Try hobby lobby for some cute wall decor. Last year, I found an adorable glittery wood wall letters that said "kisses" in the valentines section. It goes perfectly in my 5 year olds room. I would hang something like that above each of their beds. The dresser needs something cute on it. A little grouping of bears, blocks, picture frames or just something more decorative. You could paint some butterflies on one wall with just a few small pints of sample paint. You can get these at Sherwin Williams for $5 each in their cans designed to help you decide on a color and you can mix them in any of their colors. It would add a lot of pizzazz to the room, and a butterfly shape is pretty simple shapes put together. I would then add some cute basic curtains, maybe in a solid color. I used Donald Kaufman's #24. It is really a white or a pale grey with a blue (not to mention other) tints. The funny thing is, that at times of the day, it is a really deep no-doubt-about-it true blue. Because it is a full-spectrum paint, it shimmers blue, green, acqua, tan/brown, and even mauve. Oftentimes all these shades are on the same wall - but fortunately very muted! On the periphery and the corners of the room, however, it becomes a deep blue. I absolutely love this color and I need to thank Pirula again for telling me about it. A more pronounced blue (that I haven't used) is DKC-44. One blue I was sorely tempted by was Farrow & Ball's Borrowed Light. But I wanted a very pale, barely-there color so am very very pleased about DK-24.

Vavavoom, it might not be a bad idea to paint the whole room one color. After the stress of choosing this color, I may not be up to choosing a lighter blue as well. My husband wants me to paint the room this year!:) Thanks. Straitlover, thank you for sharing your experience. I don't want to go through that much trouble to get the paint tinted correctly, especially since it might not be successful. Maybe if I decide on a BM color, I'd be better off buying their paint. Lukkirish, thank you so much for posting the New Providence Navy Paint photo. The color looks very nice. I was going to buy some Behr paint tonight. Instead, I just had the primer tinted. I think I will wait until I can pick up a BM fandeck. Mine is the Preview one and doesn't have those colors. I will let you know how this works out. I'm not sure how light of a blue you are looking for but here's one. BM stonewashed 865. It's in the classic colors fan deck but for some reason that whole strip is not on the wall in the store. I'm using three of the colors on that strip. Pearl Gray 863, Oystershell 864 & Stonewashed 865. Good luck.

I'm currently working with some blues... and have ended up with Pratt and Lambert colours off their OLD fandeck. Specifically, Loch Lomond and Blue Pride. They are two different LRV levels. Both very subtle colours with gentle violet overtones that don't seem to have any close matches in other brands, and trust me, I've looked.

Thanks for all of your suggestions. I have actually decided to go with BM quiet whispers (blue) and misty lavendar for my 2 year olds room.

Are you sure Quiet Whispers is the name of the blue? I can't find it on their site. I am also looking for a nice light soothing blue that doesn't look like baby blue room.

I am not a fan of blue in my house but one of the color consultants at the BM store suggested Gossamer Blue. I am in love with it. Also did one of my bedrooms in Palladian Blue. It's a blue green and very soothing.

We painted our bedroom BM iceberg - with 10% tint on ceiling. It is very relaxing and pretty. Used white dove trim.
