Thanks everyone for all the feedback-- unfortunately I do not have the right to take any more cuttings or suckers from the property as it has now been sold. A family member did go over there and take some suckers before it sold but those failed-- I am not sure what method she used, and she's quite a green-thumb, so maybe it was just the wrong time of year to take suckers. Who knows. Right now I still have some cuttings that look "okay" (no rot, still alive) so we'll see what happens. I'm still curious to know how the dark-stemmed cuttings tend to behave (mine have a slightly greenish "sheen" on one side of the stem, but the other sides are dark maroon, which makes it difficult to tell how they are doing-- this variety has maroon stems even when fresh-cut.) I did take a variety of cuttings-- soft, semi-hard, and hard. I also did some newspaper wrappings of old hardwood and I did get some tiny roots on those after only 2 weeks, but I had to pot them up right away because there was also some mold starting. Of those, about half look like they're on the way out now, but a few of them are still on the fence. So I'm keeping my fingers crossed. What scares me is how very quickly it can all go wrong... a cutting can look just fine one day and then the next it is either dried up or getting the creeping black death. To the person who said HY is very difficult to root, I'm wondering where you go the info? Everything I've read about it suggests that it's very easy to root. Unless they were talking about suckers only. But I know I've read online that it roots well from cuttings. In spite of that I have found only one photo online of someone else rooting HY and they look awful like mine. I actually took that as a *good* sign (that they looked awful) because it was a commercial grower. I did use powdered rooting hormone on about half of them, and was careful to tap most of it off. Others I dipped in raw honey, some both, and others I did nothing to. I was trying to cover all the bases. I also used a variety of potting mediums. It's been interesting to see how the different preparations behave in my environment. For example I used a cactus soil for one batch, thinking that would be good to prevent rot, but that medium actually wound up holding excess water more than any other and most of those cuttings fared very poorly. Strange. At this point my consolation is that I do have a baggie of soil from the base of the original plant (where my mom's ashes were scattered in 2007) so if none of the cuttings work out I plan to just buy a commercial healthy HY plant and then scatter the Mom Soil on the new plant. So at least she will have a new "home", in a sense, and on the same type of rose she wanted to rest on. The problem was that nobody anticipated the property would be sold, until the family-member decided to rather suddenly, and then it sold so quickly that it took everyone by surprise and there was little time for me to get pieces of the plants that I wanted. It was a bummer, to put it lightly.

I have a co-worker whose wife did this very same thing although I did not work with him at the time of the incident and he is no longer married to this woman, although he said this is not what ended the marriage. In his case, he knew nothing about it and was completely surprised by it all. They were in huge credit card debt because he was not working for one year due to an old injury and rising medical bills. He said that his wife did buy lots of stuff but she made well over $100,000 per year (this was 10 years ago) and so nothing appeared out of the ordinary. During the divorce he found out just how bad things were for her and them. She had managed to take out over 50 credit cards and maxed these out. She put these in his name, her name, her son's name and he did not know a thing. In her case, she was an insurance agent and she would get new clients to sign up for insurance coverage but she never did the paperwork. When people started making claims for their insurance, she tried to cover it with the cash advances from the credit cards. She got caught when she went out on maternity leave. So, I see entirely how a spouse would not know. It does happen all the time. As for what should you do, I would talk to him and only offer support but don't pass judgment. Just like my co-worker, he could believe that this is all just a mistake and she didn't do it. On another note, it could be that this is just a mistake and she really didn't do it and is totally innocent. The last thing they need is for their friends to abandon them. JMO.

Decades ago, I took my first brand new car for an oil change. When they returned the car, I noticed that there was no sticker that they usually place on the windshield. I even asked the service person about it before driving off and he assured me that the oil change has been completed. Within 500 yards, all the lights came on and the car died immediately and completely. I was on a single lane road with cars behind me, but I fortunately was able to pull over before getting rear-ended. I had to walk back to the service station to report this. They realized and even told me that they had drained the oil, but gave me the car without putTing any new oil. But of course, they wouldn’t admit liability immediately without talking to their liability insurance carrier. It took them over two weeks to admit liability and another month for us to resolve our differences on the damages. Also decades ago, our mortgage company held taxes and insurance in escrow (because we were in our 20s and first time home buyers). But we received a tax lien and a seizure notice from the city because the mortgage company didn’t pay the taxes. I mention these two incidents because I remember the rage, anxiety and sleeplessness I felt until things were fixed. And the party at fault in each instance was not even people, but faceless corporations. And the amount of the loss was not something we could have weathered, especially with the house. In your case, the party at fault are people, not businesses. And you’ll be seeing them even if you’re not on speaking terms. And you can weather the loss, though it’s unjust. Again, I say all this not in a moralistic way, but because the anger these things produce will only hurt you. Hugs.

So first of all does ANYONE know of some type of known wifi issue with Daikin controllers or is it all BS? and Secondly what are my options for getting this corrected? Mini split type units regardless of brand name will have their challenges. These are almost always proprietary controlled communicating systems. What you have is specialty equipment, with add ons in the form of proprietary zone system. It wouldn't matter if the brand was Lennox, Trane or Carrier or some other brand--- proprietary gives you less choice forces you down a certain path. Getting it corrected: Your installing contractor. It's specialty equipment and if I had to guess 9 out 10 companies you call out there will probably tell you to call the installing contractor. It's their baby as they say. If it was older and out of manufacture warranty period? most will probably tell you to replace it with something else. Proprietary anything doesn't give you many options. While someone (other than your installing HVAC contractor) "could" look into fixing the the problems you have with your system... who is going to pay them? You already paid 28k so I'm sure you're in the camp of no more money? --- that put's you back to your installing contractor. The manufacture warranty only covers the part cost nothing else. If something was done improperly that falls on installing contractor. They were paid. I doubt if you called Daikin they would tell you any different. High end communicating equipment such as this is a different beast to get warranty parts for. It involves in many instances getting approval before hand. Those parts aren't cheap and so getting what is commonly known as "parts changer" for these types of systems -- uh no. This is another way that HVAC contractors have to keeping you all to themselves, unless a competitor that sells the same brand, same system is willing to look at it for? What does an outsider have to gain for a system you paid 28K to someone else that doesn't work right? Daikin isn't paying anyone to do it. This is why service after the sale is most important part to any HVAC system. I service the Katy, Texas area.
