BM Semi Gloss using a spray gun and air compressor

I picked up a gallon of semi gloss Linen White for some furniture I'm going to start soon. I'm going to try my hand at using a spray gun attached to an air compressor. The compressor's pressure is adjustable, so I'll need to figure out what setting to use (question 1, what's a good pressure for a beginner)

Then the paint is the consistancy of thick cream, it actually LOOKS just like the real cream we used to skim off the top of the milk jars we'd pick up from the dairy. Sticks to the paint brush and you have to tap it off, does not run off on it's own easily.

I guess the logical thought would be to thin it, but how will I know what ratio and what do you thin it with (water?) and will that affect the color?
