Glass cabinets

How did you decide where to place your glass cabinets? I notice from photos, that most seem to be placed on both sides of the range? Are you happy with your decision to get some glass cabs??

Hi betsy...

My kitchen has a somewhat odd shape. I put the glass cabinets where they would be the most visually seen when looking at the kitchen from my family room.

I'm happy with my decision to go with a few glass cabinets because my cabs are a very dark stain, and they help lighten up the kitchen.

I have 4 glass doors...and in them I keep my dishes, glassware, and pretty things..

Hi - I am at the extreme end of this subject as I went with all glass uppers in our kitchen. We don't have a huge space and I wanted it light and airy and less kitchen-ey since it opened up to a small family room. It is probably one of my favorite decisions of our remodel. It takes discipline but I am far from OCD (DH would concur!) plastic stuff goes in drawers but everything else is faiir game (we do have a pantry for food). It is easy for guests to find what they need and I love how I get to see my pitchers and ironstone etc. I stack stuff and don't try to really "display" the dishes (too much display can look like one is trying a little too hard in my opinion- doesn't read real enough for me). so I think glass uppers can give you a canvas to inject a little personality into your space which is fun. So I say, the more the better! :-)

Oh my goodness! What gorgeous kitchens! I'm so happy you're responding with these fabulous pictures. Spanish, I love the cabinet color, the counters, the lovely pulls and knobs, your arabesque And your glass. You reached your goal of lightening it up, it's so pretty! MizLizzie, your mullions are to die for. My big wow factor in my kitchen redo are double arched mullions like yours but mine are not as large or as long. The proportions of your are fab! Breezy, I'm beginning to think we'll never be done. We're double the time they estimated and we are no where near finished. I'm not sure i want to show my kitchen. it's not a style that many prefer. I may be too sensitive to criticism since it is a design I've had in my head for years. Lots of things are not coming out as I hoped, and everything is so expensive that mistakes cannot easily be remedied, eg.. I choose antique mirror to put behind my mullions as there is a soffit behind some of it and any glass would reveal that. The mirror arrived and it's WAY darker than the small sample, it was custom cut and not returnable. It reads a bit smokey, contemporary which is not at all what i imagined. Other items I splurged on are not as perfect in real life as in my head...I'm excited but feel a bit humbled and nervous about how it will all turn out. Taggie, your kitchen is magnifique! The bs , cabinet color and style are beautiful. Your glass sets them off so well. I just went to a glass shop and the glass I liked best is called GNA, it a version of antique glass. It's pretty and expensive. Thanks so much for sharing,your lovely kitchens!

Cabinet paint color and placement of glass cabinet door?

Paint can definitely go a long way when it comes to inexpensive but impactful upgrades to a space. Your black countertop is quite pretty, but matching the paint color to your backsplash might be difficult. If this is a temporary solution and you plan to do a more complete renovation in the future, you can either live with the backsplash that may not work with your new cabinet paint color or try painting the backsplash. Painting the backsplash is definitely not a long-term solution, but can last for a few years without being an eyesore. A white kitchen is a classic option you won’t regret, and Cloud White by Benjamin Moore is a solid choice. We have a few otherideas for white paint for kitchen cabinets, as well as some of our favorite countertops for white cabinets. This home has black countertops similar to yours and some of those tan/beige hues in your backsplash, and the cabinets are Simply White by Benjamin Moore. Good luck, and keep us posted on your progress!

I'm coming in late, but here are my thoughts: - To answer the original question, I'd go with just one glass-front cabinet, and I'd make it the corner angled cabinet. - As others have said, the aisle behind the island stools is too narrow. Additionally, you're going to have a table within arm's reach, so island seating isn't needed. I'd do away with the island stools altogether and have a deeper island with cabinets opening on two sides. - I would like to see a larger window over the sink /would give up some upper cabinet space to get that larger window. - Yes to drawers instead of pull-outs. - I would go with a Super Susan in the corner /I'd store pots and pans in it. - This kitchen isn't all that big. I'd downsize the range to 30" to get a little more cabinet space. - I'd store spices in the upper cabinet to the right of the cooktop. - Is that a bump-out on an exterior wall for the refrigerator? This will be expensive. And then you'll need to run water to that area so you can have an ice maker. Though this goes against what I said a moment ago, I'd bring the refrigerator into the "L" (though that isn't ideal) and to with a pantry (which wouldn't require the bump-out) in the refrigerator's current spot.

I have a small galley kitchen with the range on one side and the sink and dw on the other. My glass uppers are on the same side as the sink and dw.

Marthavila, I also have a galley, w/ sink and dw on the exterior wall with wdw over sink.Do you have any pics posted?

KA-love your kit, maybe I can do a corner cabinet also.

In my last kitchen i wanted a light feel, so in the galley portion (about 20 feet long), I had no uppers at all on one side, and all glass uppers on the other side. I had lightweight muslin-y curtains inside the cabinets, so I would not drive myself crazy keeping things perfect.

My new house is less formal (from a brick Georgian to a rambling farmhouse). I am again using all glass on my uppers, but I am using a restoration glass that is slightly wavy. If it drives me crazy, I had the cabinetmaker design them so that I could also add curtains.
