KitchenAid mixer died!

I don't post on this forum as I'm not a very good cook. But just got some lessons from a friend on making bread, and I was excited to try it on my own. Well, I got all the ingredients in my KA mixer, slipped on the bread hook. It seemed to be doing fine for about the first 30 seconds, and then the darn thing just took off. Picked up speed rapidly (knob was still in the stir position), and was bouncing all over the counter. Then the hook just stopped turning. The mixer itself was still running.

So my question is: is it worth getting fixed, or should I just bite the bullet and get a new one? I honestly haven't used it much because it always sprayed the ingredients all over the kitchen. I never realized it was going faster than it should. (duh!) The friend who gave me the lessons have a pro model with a BIG bowl. Is it worth the $$.

I really appreciate the advice!

Joyce
