After doing some more research on humus it's very interesteing. It's my understanding that humus isn't fully understood and very difficult to explain. Just to help understand I've broken it down a bit. Humus by deffinision from Websters is " a brown or black complex variable material resulting from partial decomposition of plant or animal matter and forming the organic portion of soil" comes from "New Latin, from Latin, earth" From Wikipedia is close to the same deffinition "Humus (Latin - "soil ") is the organic material in soil lending it a dark brown or black colouration" And the deffinition for Colloid from Websters is "2 a: a substance that consists of particles dispersed throughout another substance which are too small for resolution with an ordinary light microscope but are incapable of passing through a semipermeable membrane b: a mixture consisting of a colloid together with the medium in which it is dispersed" And from Wikipedia "A colloid is a type of mechanical mixture where one substance is dispersed evenly throughout another." " A colloidal system may be solid, liquid, or gaseous" Aparently if you can let any organic matter decompose basicly with out any dirt it will form a jelly like substance once fully decomposed and in a stable condition. Depending on how well you create humus you could actually end up with nothing. If your humus becomes so stable that it will not provide any help to your plants. I would say this guy just did some research and took what nature already does and is just trying to sell it. I would like to see him actually product this. He may have theroy behind it but no experiance or ability to actually produce this. Take a look at Wikipedia I think they do a very good job explain humus. As far as our own compost. Well keep it cook'n we are still breaking down organic matter into stuff that helps our soils and plants and will eventually allow mother nature to create her own humus. I have been guilty of the same thing I love pixel of ink. Plus I also have a ton of ebooks in epub format too. I have no idea how I will read them all. So many great free books I don't know why I would need to buy any.

OT ~ There are loads of free books on the kindle. There are also loads of low priced books. When you view the top 100 best seller list you will find a button at the top right hand corner for the current top 100 free kindle books. Click on it to reach the list. Kindle also supposedly now will work with some library loan programs. I haven't used it yet cause I am spoiled and have had a long list of books waiting on my kindle to be read. On topic ~ Getting my ereader did help me control my book clutter (not reduce the amount I spent on books). We had at least 6 - 5 shelf book cases in the house, all stuffed to the gills. The books were stacked two deep and all the space on top of the books were full. It was either get a kindle or buy more bookshelves. At the time it was admittedly a splurge. I love it! We have since gone through all our books, given the good ones to our young adult children along with a couple of bookshelves and donated the rest, bookshelves and all. I love the space I have reclaimed, I love the easy access to a book the second I am done with the last one and I love that it fits into the my purse and goes with me everywhere. There are so many times I find myself waiting somewhere and am thankful my book is always in my purse and doesn't weigh a ton. If you get an ereader can you bear to release some of your books?

Carolyn, I read The Comfort of Ghosts back in June when it was released, and thought it was a good wrap-up to series, which I have also enjoyed. I liked how it revisited the many characters that played important roles through the series. I recently finished Anne Higgonet's Liberty, Equality, Fashion: The Women Who Styled the French Revolution, and enjoyed it. It has mixed reviews: fashion experts universally panned it for too many inaccuracies, while non-experts or art historians (Higgonet's expertise) all liked it. I found it readable and interesting as (1) how the Revolution originally expanded women's rights but gradually lost them, and (2) pocket biographies of Terezia Tallien, Juliette Recamier, and Rose du Beauharnais, aka Josephine Bonaparte. I'm currently reading Elizabeth Rush's The Quickening: Creation and Community at the Ends of the Earth, about a scientific expedition to the Thwaites Glacier in Antarctica. Rush joined the expedition as an NSF-funded media specialist. So far, so good, but Rush follows the mold of science writers who spend way too much time talking about the scientists rather than the science. Some folks like that but I'm not one of them. My personal pet peeve with science writers.
