Adding dish rack over the sink under the cabinet
Comments (5)I have been looking at this and I agree with ZoeCat that the IKEA Grundal is an effective option. It can be folded back as well. They are phasing those out by the way.. I was planning to head to my local IKEA to buy one in case I can use it in the prep sink area. The bar is useful to hang other things as well. Lalitha...See MoreSink (likely silgranit) with drainer
Comments (5)I grew up with a sink and drainboard, and it is very useful if you wash many dishes by hand. The drainboard is also a great parking place for freshly washed produce, any 'wet' activity. You can't use the space for things like rolling out dough, but if you have plenty of other workspace, having this much dedicated to 'wet' is very practical. I feel it's a bit more practical than the 'runnels' that a lot of people are having done. Not as fashionable, though. If you check the spec page for the sink you are talking about, it appears drain board section doesn't impinge on the cabs below. I'd double check with the supplier, but it looks to me as though regular drawers would work there. The drainboard is included in the cutout, which is very large-- the chance of a seam in the area is quite high. Here is a link that might be useful: drainboard sink specs...See MoreWhere do you keep your dish drainer?
Comments (27)I haven't owned a dish drainer in years--in fact not since we moved into this house almost 12 years ago. Before that, the drainers we had were always really ugly, so perhaps that fed my aversion to them. We hand wash pots and pans, stoneware, and some glassware, but there are seldom more than a few pieces unless we're entertaining. We have always just put a towel on the counter. With the new kitchen, we had runnels installed in the counter and we have a grid in the sink. We place dishes directly on the runnels to dry, and if there are just a few small items, we dry them on the sink grid. So now, we don't even use the towel, unless the 'load' is particularly large....See MoreDo you put dish drainer on your pretty granite?
Comments (32)Speaking of drying pots and pans ... When I was a kid mom didn't put pots in the dishwasher, she washed them by hand and set them over on the cooktop to dry, then later on poured out the remaining drips. It was a small kitchen short on counterspace. Out of habit, I often do the same -- quick swipe on the bottom, then over to the stovetop, later dump the drips, wipe and put away. One day I was talking to her about it, and she laughed. HER mother had a working woodstove in the kitchen, so placing the pots there actually DRIED them. But old habits die hard. :P...See Moresumnerfan
