It would help a lot if you could post photos :-) One could offer all manner of plant suggestions, however a visual of the situation would narrow down the very wide range of possibilities as well as offer suggestions for placement. Certainly the hydrangea and roses could be a possibility, but their season of interest is rather limited. For the front yard and especially at the entry, a more uniformly year round look is desirable and that generally leads to more evergreen plants. But there are also many excellent evergreen (or year round interest plants) that will stay small/compact or within scale without excessive pruning. 'Senior citizen friendly' can be more loosely translated to 'low maintenance' and that is often a major landscaping criteria for many homeowners, regardless of age and ability :-) Including more specifics about where in zone 6 you are located is also helpful.

have you tried adjusting your colors settings in the pc? right click on a clear spot on the desktop then choose properties and go to the settings tab then under color quality you can change the settings there and there is a troubleshooting button you can try and there is an advanced button there also, try giving some of those a try but be sure you write down what it was set on first so you can go back if you should need to. definitely should last longer than 6 years especially a name brand one like that. I have monitors that are still working fine that are much much older than that. I tell you where I saw a bunch of them for just a couple dollars each was at the Salvation ARmy and Goodwill stores. Also craigslist for your area. My LCD has no distortion at all, you can change the dpi settings also if you need bigger fonts etc to be able to read. I have mine set up to fill my entire screen, it takes a little fiddling with it but I have my LCD set up just like my crt was but it is much easier for me to view in my opinion. I had to hook up one of my old crt monitors to work on another pc and I could not believe how hard it was to look at the old monitor, I sure was glad I did not have to go back for long. Now I want a bigger LCD like a 22 or 24" would be nice! Prices are coming down so much now they are so affordable. this is the one I have now

Cold as it sounds, it is not the responsibility of people who are complaining about unsafe drivers to drive the people they're complaining about, around. It would be nice, and it would be charitable, but it is not their responsibility, nor are they obligated to accept having unsafe drivers on the roads if they don't want to drive others around. However, there does need to be some problem solving going on so that these older people can get to appointments and get errands done. But it is NOT acceptable for an unsafe driver to be on the road because they need to go somewhere. My daughter had to face that reality when her license was taken away due to a diagnosis of epilepsy, and the same goes for any other unsafe driver, including older ones. From my observations, police are quicker to ticket young drivers who are speeding slightly, than they are to ticket older drivers who's driving habits are unsafe. Many older drivers here drive slowly enough to obstruct traffic and pull out right in front of oncoming cars only to drive below the speed limit. They are never ticketed until they cause an accident. The younger drivers are quicker to be ticketed. Actually, a few years ago a senior citizen put her car in reverse and bashed into my car at an intersection, and then she yelled at me for not getting out of her way! She also refused to give me her license info, and a police officer had to get "verbal" with her to get her to provide it.

We have a couple of stores here that have senior discounts on Tuedays and you only have to be 55 to get 10% off. 55 also counts for the senior menu at the iHop restaurant. I always show my ID, and tell them the polite thing to do is to look shocked and swear they never thought I could be old enough for the discount. That always gets a chuckle. I'm 58 now. Please don't worry about how old you look -- the cashier was probably told that it was rude to ask people their age, since most folks showing up for car washes on Tuesdays would be seniors.
