vanity counter top - granite or corian
Comments (7)I amagine there are some products that would harm granite, but nail polish remover is not one of them. The stuff my fabricator used to clean up after attaching the granite backsplash to the granite vanity was acetone, that is what most nail polish removers are. You will probably seal your granite and it doesn't take any fancy cleaning compound to keep it clean. OxyClean and water are the staples in my household, with a microfiber cloth. I think Corian is more likely to stain than granite. Think about it, granite is a natural stone, in nature it takes alot of abuse. Last time I checked there wasn't that much difference in price between the 2 materials. For easy of upkeep and looks I prefer granite, but each to his own....See MoreMarti - your thread on counter tops scares me!
Comments (19)Even if you have laminate, there is usually a plywood base beneath it, right? You sure have my curiosity up, so I'll go check my Kenmore Elite DW. I've had 4 of them (3 different houses, 1 killed by the hurricane), and never had any problems. It also has a sanitizing on-board water heater in case the normal temp of the water is not hot enough to sanitize. If you think your kids might try to open it and get burned, you can engage the LOCK feature. My front load washing machine has that, and will NOT OPEN while water is in it or while the machine is spinning. Even showers these days come equipped with an ANTI-SCALD feature, to keep us old folks and the kids from making ourselves crispy critters. Personally, I keep the water heater temp down as low as required for the DW, but no hotter. That costs a LOT of money. I really want to have an auxiliary preheat solar energy system on the metal roof we plan to install, the keep that in the summer instead of paying a high power bill. DH says he taught students to build those things once upon a time, and he can do it for us. I'm all for alternate power sources. Sorry....I got off topic again. Drats....See Morecounter support for island - pics before counter installed?
Comments (24)I would strongly recommend AGAINST buying ANY CounterBalance product... they will completely hose the homeowner / DYI consumer. Just compare the price for the brackets between http://counterbalanceshop.com and http://www.chemical-concepts.com/counterbalance.php The same product will cost you $114 at the first site and $81 at the second. Really??? THEY ARE BOTH THE SAME VENDOR. I tried to place an order based upon the info on the Chemical site (didn't even know about the counterbalance site) and they wouldn't honor the price posted. Don't do business with this vendor who isn't interested in doing business with you. Vendor's words: "I could care less about" selling to consumers. STAY AWAY !!! Find a local machine shop who is interested in doing business at a fair price/profit. The product is a VERY simple job for any machine shop to produce. Chemical concepts doesn't even make the product -- they sell glue. For the person who wanted to know where they could get metal support bars, here is an option: http://metalworking.mscdirect.com/CGI/MWSRCH?N=32003649 I don't have any experience with them, so I don't know if their prices/policies are good or bad. I just found them from doing a bit of searching....See MoreMy New Corian Rain Cloud Counter, Thank YOU Joe Corlett For Advice!
Comments (26)Unlike Anglophilia, I actually tired of my neutral white counter with white subway tiled kitchen faster than I have my blue green glass accent tiles which still make me smile every shower. Every one's mileage will vary follow your heart and gut. As to resale I live on the golden coast in ct where everyone is pulling out the white on white kitchens and replacing with warmer woods and variety of color. My Craig's list offers Christopher Peacock kitchens frequently. So it seems many will hate the neutral aswell....See MoreTanya Flores
