Well, I guess it doesn't surprise me a lot that some of my design aesthetic is stuck in the 80's and 90's.
I love the white kitchens, love the shaker simplicity, love that Green kitchen - OMG, very Miles Redd whose designs I adore...
and I'm about to get my Baker sofa out of storage that was reupholstered in 1993 with a cotton moire in forest green. It needs reupholstering, badly, but how appropos that it's coming back in style just in time to reupholster it.

My parents bought a new condo in 95, it had grey paint, white cabinets, cultured marble in the bath and brass knobs. Looked fresh and new. Years later after they passed we had to redo the condo for sale (2005) We left cabinets but refreshed them with new white paint (wanted to put in light maple but due to cost couldn't), put in slate tiles on floors and backsplash, black counters, light maple laminate flooring and beige paint.

I think back and think that the changes we made look more dated now then what my parents put in in 95. It seems marble and grey and white cabinets are frequent trends.

I think many of these "trends" have never gone out of style. None of them are over-the-top, except possible the green cabinets.

I just put washed pine countertops in my kitchen remodel!

I think the pictures represent high design of the 1990s, in an Architectural Digest kind of way, but they don't represent what was popular design in the 1990s. At least, I don't think I've seen a kitchen posted in here from the 1990s that anyone was remodeling that looked anything like this.

Wearstler's kitchen takes a page from late 70s- 80s living areas more than 1990s kitchens--and she goes for a kind of cocaine-fueled late disco aesthetic, imo.

I agree about what has been said about white cabs. They are timeless. Never in or out. I think white or off white is your safest bet to never go out of style. Melamine white may be a different story.

I think that was more 80s than 90s, maybe spanned 2 decades but I had the green cabinets like that in 1984 and moved to another house in 1988 and had the primitive table and pine cabinets. Oh, I wish I had not lived so many places and seen so much. I even had a house in the 1980s that I used Mario Buatta style, with wallpaper, floral drapes, tweeds, florals, stripes, bedticking, lots of flower arrangements, phony trees, both palm and fig. Oh and then mid 1990s before I changed it out, Christopher whatshisname added those canned lights behind all the phony trees so that my house looked somewhat like an FBO in the countryside.

Trip down memory lane ... we bought (excuse me, rented from the morgtage company :-D ) our first house in '93. I was only 23, and into all of the worst trends of the moment. I cringe now, at my choices! It had:

Golden oak cabinets (not the good kind)
Blue formica counters in kitchen
Wallpaper borders in blue and dusty rose
Geese. (I know.)
"Southwestern" decor in living room (not the authentic kind -- I had the howling wolves, unnatural green cacti accessories, etc.)
Dusty rose master bath, pink cultered marble
Lots of wooden cut-out decor (hearts, etc)
Silk flower arrangements, fake Ficus trees in too-small baskets (a big tree in a tiny basket, so realistic)

I'll just stop right here. I'm embarrassing myself.

White kitchens are already back, and been back for a while, and are the only way to go if you follow that Maria Killam chick. I might read her blog every few moths or so, but every time I do, she harps on white kitchens and why its the only thing going. So that's not much of a forecast with that one.

On the other hand; YAY! to the hunter green! I've been thinking about redoing my dining room and den walls to a really dark hunter green, like almost British racing green.

Miz_M - My first house in 1993 had pickled oak cabinets and I sponge painted my daughter's room. I'm sure there were other transgressions but those are the only things I can remember.

My new house in 1991 had white frameless cabinets (I so wanted ceiling high but builder said it couldn't be done), natural oak hardwood floors, gray wall-to-wall in the bedrooms, wall paint off white. White BS tiles. I was talked into accent tiles.
White vanities in the bathroom. I so wanted marble but couldn't find anything remotely affordable or a decent lookalike (only the ones with the printed pixels). White tiles with a black and white floor that I still like. However, again talked into black accent tiles on the wall. So, I'm waiting for that to come back....
I didn't want brass handles etc, so upgraded to chrome with white ceramic handles.
I got the nice brass builder light fixtures, though, and the honey oak vanities in the basement bathroom.

Oh, but I painted a desk navy blue and added brass knobs and handles.
