That's adorable! It reminds me of my daughter Jill, when she was about three years old. I was reading a book to her, and used the word delighted. I said to her, "Do you know what 'delighted' means?" She said, "Yes. It means dark." :-)

Cute;) My 4 year old DGD surprises us all the time by what she says and we do not know where she hears this stuff~~I think kids are smarter now days? Or just exposed to more.

My 3 year old grandaughter found a red Christmas ornament. She said it was a magnet. I told her I didn't think so. Later on I was in the kitchen and there was the ornament stuck to my frig. I said something to Kendall about it being a magnet. She looked up at me and said, " I told you so, Mamaw." I guess she told me. She asked me the other day how old I was. I told her 65. She quickly informed me that no one was 65. I though if only she knew...

Those are cute stories. So innocent and sweet, and smart!Always makes you laugh.

Yes, I think young ones are exposed to more things about learning. Little Alyssa who just turned 2 this week, has her own tablet and knows how to use it. She tells her Mother what animals she wants to look at online and then she scrolls and looks and looks at things. Recently she made us really laugh. They have a dachshund named Angel. Angel is very senior and sometimes pees on the floor. Well, recently their roof leaked in the bathroom and left a spot on the ceiling. Alyssa spotted it and announced, "Angel Peed!" "Angel bad girl!" "Bad girl Angel!" She also likes to shop. She and her Aunt Cheryl went into Hobby Lobby and Alyssa did not want to ride in the cart, so she held Cheryl's hand and they started walking. She said to Cheryl, "Chaa", that what she calls her, "Baby is walking and shopping"! Anyone else have some cute things to post?

I once cautioned our then-young DS that his soup might be too hot to eat yet, and he should let it cool off. He looked puzzled and said no, he would let it "warm off".

alisande and susie53, LOVE your grandaughters insights! As far as kids being smarter because of what they're exposed to, this kid is "old school" --- no electronics (Dad is pushing, Mom has the veto) and she watches 1/2 hr. of tv 3-4 times a wk. (Bubble Guppies, Little Bill, Blues Clues, Oomizoomi.) But somehow she knows she's one. Not "free." Someone must have said something sometime. . . . maybe another grandparent? We've all been working with her with numbers (and alphabet, colors, shapes, etc) and she's gotten the numbers thing!

Mom went shopping one day with her (then)-daughter-in-law and granddaughter. GD was 2 (17 years ago). They were going up to the second floor int the mall, and she turned to mom and said Grandma, we're going up the escalator!! Mom was flabbergasted that she knew and could say escalator. We would often comment on that over the years and Mom always told that story fondly.

The parents always read to her and would go on walks and she learned things.

LOL.....her other grandmother is a label-nut, and when I pointed to my watch one time, and asked her what it was, she said it was a Gucci. She called watches Gucci's because her other grandmother wore one.

Yeah, where does this stuff come from? Like Jasdips kids "escalator." And how funny a watch is called a "Gucci! A few weeks ago this not quite 2 yr. old grandaughter was asked what she wanted for lunch. Peanut butter and jelly? No! Chicken nuggets? No! Etc. When asked, "what do you want?" she said "salami sandwich." My daughter and I both looked at each other with our jaws hitting the floor. They have never had salami in their house! Much less a salami sandwich! A couple days later, I was reading her one of her ABC books and we read "S is for salami." Soooo, someone must have read the "S is for salami" days or weeks or months earlier and told her salami was food and and you would make it into a sandwich.? (Coulda been me?) Little sponge. . . . . .

I just remembered ...

... Sue (whom I met as an adult at university) used to speak of getting frozen food ... "unthawed"!

I had 4 of my little ones all under 4 this past weekend.. I was in the kitchen when, Cole, came in waging his little finger and told me my IPad was calling me. McKenzie, 3, was standing talking to me going a hundred miles a hour when she all of a sudden said, " Never mind, Mamaw." Off she went to play once again. They bring such joy to our lives.. Being a Mamaw is the best thing in the world!!

My grandson was practicing singing his song for the Christmas play (Christian school.) He was singing about Jesus. I asked him if he knew who Jesus was. His reply was "Gigi, I've never met the man but I know where he lives." I asked him where is that and he replied "in my heart." Loved it!

susie53, being a grandma (this kid has decided to call me "Geebeee" --the older 4 grands call me Grammy, which is what this childs parents called me until she came up with the name) is why I am in the trenches helping my DD taking care of this baby and her 6 mo. old brother. It's work, but I love it. Yes, being a grandma is the best thing EVER!!!! (My oldest grand is 15!!!!!!)

When my 27 year old daughter was about 6 we were looking to get a dog for the family. Putting that on hold for one Friday evening DH and I left the kids with a sitter and had a parents night out. Before dinner we stopped by an electronics store and bought a 27" Sharp TV. We put the large square TV box in the back of our mini-van and covered it with a blanket while we went to dinner. When we picked the kids up DD asked what was under the blanket. Joking, I told her it was our new dog. She lifted the blanket and without skipping a beat says "Oh, a Sharpei, I see." :-)

I've always looked young for my age. When I was four mom took me to the movies one afternoon. The sign said "3 and under are free" so to save a few bucks mom told the ticket person that I was free. Feeling slighted, I stomped my foot and yelled, "I'm not free, I'm four!" Busted, mom! LOL

I don't know where this quote came from. "Grandchildren are your reward from not having killed your kids when they were young." YES! And as far as telling a kid "I hope when you grow up you have a child just like you" -- I never said that to my kids. But my son has two (of 4) of those. . . .Hahahahaha! Karma?
