Hi there, Woodie! Share the recipe with everyone. I've had it all my life, and I think it is great. We had it tonight with tri-tip that we started marinating on Saturday. I have looked at the Cooking Forum just briefly, and I'll have to visit more. I am a real regular over in Appliances and Kitchens/Baths and Remodeling, because we are finishing up a major remodel and all the pain that goes with it. For 8 months we were living in the basement, and cooking with just the microwave and the electric frypan. Since we've moved back into the house and have the kitchen almost done, now I can pay attention to the other Forums, like cooking and some of the gardening ones. But it's been first things first, and I've learned quite a lot about kitchen appliances from these great forums. I'm glad you enjoyed the marinade. I'll tell my 93 yr old Mother than her old recipe is still making the rounds!

" Most of the foods you are eating sound bad! I understand you were looking for someone who has tried it and succeeded. I can only report that, although I am cheating, I have stopped buying products or eating meals that contain those foods. Easing my way there, lol. So my intake is way down. It's hard to contemplate but in reality is not all that hard to do. I guess gluten is one of the hardest to give up. Maybe dairy. I also incorporate anti-inflammatory foods in my diet. Once you start thinking this way, you will see all those processed and so-called "healthy" foods as unappealing junk food. The less the better. Of course your favorites are harder to let go of. But there are still yummy foods to eat and you don't have to go hungry as on a low calorie diet. 2000 calories of mother nature is not the same as 2000 calories of man-made junk. Your taste and the cravings do change. It's simple. Fresh fruits and vegetables, healthy lean meats, almond/coconut/flax seed milk, Soy-free Earth Balance for butter (you won't miss it!). Nuts, seeds, berries. Grass-fed beef is supposedly as healthy as fish. I don't drink milk but use one or more of the alternates on cereal and it tastes fine that way. Ick used for things like yoghurt or ice cream, but those are unhealthy processed foods anyway. The coconut ice cream I tried was edible but nothing to look forward to, imo. I have tried brown rice pasta (Joy) and it is a good substitute, better than the old wheat pasta we were supposed to be switching to. I don't know if it is on their plans and is certainly not a great choice if losing weight is your goal. I need to come up with some healthy desserts and snacks, bread alternatives. At least try Dr. Fuhrman's way of looking at things, focusing on high-nutrient foods. His patients also reap the big health benefits but are not specifically told to eliminate certain foods. He tells people to follow "the salad is the main meal". Load it with vegetables, fruits, seeds, nuts. You might want to start slowly since your system is sensitive. I wonder if pro and pre-biotics would help straighten things out there. It sounds like you could have a gut imbalance. There are also enzymes for gas that a lot of people say works. I don't think you need to question whether or not it works, although of course it won't "cure" everyone. These aren't your typical infomercials. They are MD's for the most part. JJ is a Ph.D. They all have patient practices. This is now scientifically backed research. I don't think they are lying and the patients are made up stories. They aren't some of those doctors who try to sell their own magical supplements you can't live without either, although they might offer books, diet plans and some food products. I am mostly wheat/gluten-free. I do lots of baking - lots of experimenting with new recipes. I've had some pretty good luck! I recently started a blog (for fun) with mostly (but not all) gluten-free recipes. First few weeks going off of wheat were the hardest. Like with any addiction, the cravings are really strong. But it passes, and gets easier. I make my own gluten-free mix which I keep handy. It's 1 part Sorghum flour, 1 part Rice flour, 2/3 part Potato Starch, and 1/3 part Tapioca Starch (or flour). I also use Xanthan gum most of the time. I also use other flours like Brown rice flour, Almond flour, Oat flour (I don't need it certified since I don't have Celiac), Bean flours (can be strong). It depends on the recipe. Here's my favorite Waffle recipe. It's a Yeast recipe you make the night before, and cook up in the morning: 2 gluten-free flour 1-1/2 tsp instant yeast 1/2 stick melted butter (1/4 cup) 2 c. warm milk (or ½ buttermilk) -heated to about 110 degrees 2 eggs 2 tsp vanilla extract 1 Tbs. sugar 1/2 tsp salt The night before: Combine and whisk together the dry ingredients in a large bowl: flour, yeast, sugar and salt. Combine the melted butter and milk. Add the mixture to the dry ingredients. Whisk eggs and vanilla together in a separate small bowl. Add the egg-vanilla mixture to the other mixture, and whisk until well-combined. Cover with plastic wrap and stick in the fridge until tomorrow morning. The next morning: Prepare waffle iron as usual. Stir the batter to deflate it (it should be puffy and frothy). Add to waffle iron the same way you would other batter, keeping in mind that this batter will rise more than batters that use baking powder instead of yeast. It's called alpha-gal allergy from the bite of a Lone Star Tick identified by scientists just since 2002 and mostly occurs in the Southeast States. DH went to allergist and confirmed with skin prick test and a blood test confirmed pork too so all mammalian meat consumed causes a reaction so it should be described as a reaction from eating mammals not red meat. He went into anaphylactic shock after eating stuffed pepper with beef - months after the tick bite. There is no cure but some say the reaction recedes in time - though we don't want to test it out until we revisit the allergist next year and thereafter. It does make it difficult to eat out because beef broth may be used in soup, or ham used to flavor vegetables - stuff we didn't think of before. It's not like a gluten allergy where you get a tummy ache, this allergy can be life-threatening and we carry an Epi-pen. Asking around we've found many of our friends have it too! He can have poultry and fish so is not totally vegetarian. I wouldn't be surprised if they start opening restaurants called "Non-Mammalian". In the meantime I'm revisiting my cookbooks for things that taste like meat (he hates tofu so that avenue is closed). The fake bacon actually tastes pretty good though I would not have tried it before.
