Cleaning Wood Furniture
Comments (2)If you can find a product called Royal Guardsman Furniture polish, that's what my mom uses on her wood furniture. Her furniture was new in the 1940's, and she keeps it looking good with this polish. It's a white creaMmy liquid, a cleaner and polish in one. She pours it on, spreads it, lets it sit, then wipes off with a clean dry cloth rag. Her furniture looks good, even though it has survived three generations of children's food spills, crayons, etc....See MoreHow to clean the area beneath old wood floors??
Comments (0)We are restoring a 1762 house with old floors in poor condition that have large gaps between the boards. Beneath the boards, there's a thick layer of dust, dirt, hair etc. in the space between the floor joists... years and years of gunk and grime beneath the floors. Is there any way to clean out this space without tearing up the entire floor? I was wondering about services like the ones that vacuum ducts. Has anyone run into this and found a solution? Thanks for any ideas!...See MoreBest way to clean dusty wood furniture?
Comments (6)Mineral spirits is also great for the general grunge that is made up of dirt/dust mixed with skin oils, like you get on wood banisters, wood chair arms, etc. I've had much success with it: my folks learned this in a furniture refinishing class. If the furniture is just deeply dusty without grunge, though, it may not be necessary. I've brought furniture from the parental attic that was just deeply dusty in the carvings. For that I used a vaccuum cleaner attachment in the left hand and a clean white china bristle brush (stiff bristles) in the right, to dig out the dust while the vaccum nozzle followed behind. The vacuum attachment with bristles was too soft to be much good....See Morecleaning an old wooden porch & railing
Comments (2)Any of the sodium percarbonate cleaners will not harm your flowers and will kill mildew, mold etc. You will have to scrub with a deck scrub brush and let it dwell for about 20 minutes, then rinse off very well. You can put a clear sealer down, but be aware that clear sealers offer little or no protection from sun damage, which is a major cause of deterioration of wood decks. You would be better off putting down something with color that would offer sun protection. Marty...See Moreredbazel
