What's the best way to clean dusty books?
Comments (5)Duh...why didn't I think of that?? Linda, you're my cleaning expert! Remember those lined curtains you had me soak in OxyClean? I've made such a mess of drying them! I posted today on the Laundry forum, asking if I could dry them in the dryer without heat. Twice now I've gotten them dirty while hanging them to dry. (That must be some sort of record.) Thanks! Susan...See MoreWhat's the best way to clean older furniture?
Comments (4)Along the same lines, I have a corner cupboard made by my g-g-grandfather around 1850, may be a little earlier, may be a little later. It doesn't need cleaning, but I worry about it drying out. It is mostly solid, but the raised panels on the lower doors have veneer in the center and a small piece has dropped/broken off. Don't want any more spots to do that. It may be the result of being hit by something-it happened years ago at my mother's house. Forgive the hijack, please Camlan. It seemed to go along with your question and maybe will give you more info, too, if anyone has ideas....See MoreBest Way to Clean Laminate Wood Floors?
Comments (3)What are the instructions from your flooring manufacturer? That is what I would follow - assuming you *have* those instructions. Otherwise, I think vinegar/water is always safe, or the cleaner from one of the flooring manufacturers - I think I use spray cleaner from Bruce (Laminate) flooring. I put it in the holder for my damp mop, dilute it with water (random amounts) to make it stretch - and clean away! Vinegar/water is more inexpensive, but the flooring cleaner really doesn't cost much since you aren't flooding the floor with it! You have to be careful with other cleaners - some people use ammonia, or Windex for instance(shudder) - they might void the flooring warranty and probably risk ruining the finish on the floor....See MoreCleaning BEADED cabinets??Grooves get dirty, best way to clean??
Comments (12)1. Assess your venting if you're getting greasy dirt. Maybe you need a higher CFM blower. As others have mentioned, turn on your vent before starting to cook to establish a draft pattern. 2. A high quality 2" angled paint brush is great for dusting--"dust". It gets into the grooves really well. However, if there is grease holding the dust there, it won't work well and you'll need to do #1 and possibly #3. 3. "Damp" dust or clean with a microfiber cloth and a gentle cleaner. NO oil soap or 409 or anything with ammonia. Those can damage the finish over time. Just a microfiber cloth dampened with a small bit of dish detergent if you need to "wash" the cabinets and water only if you're just trying to pick up clingy dust. Be sure to rinse the detergent if you wash them....See Morelindac
