That would depend on what plant you are growing. Depending on the source you read some say it is a Alocasia or Colocasia but the more authoritative sources appear to indicate it is just a small form of Xanthosoma sagittifolium. X sagittifolium is not called a Taro in the areas where it is eaten but has other common names including Arrowleaf Elephant Ear, Malanga, Yautia, Tannia, Mangarás, New Cocoyam, Tajer, Tanier, Taioba, Chou Caribe, Cascamote and many other names. Taro normally applies to the plants in the Colocasia esculenta species which has well over 100 known forms. Such is the problem with depending solely on a common name to try to learn about how a plant grows. If your plant is a a Colocasia or Alocasia it will eventually run, if it is a Xanthosoma it will produce offsets next to the parent. Sellers often just make up common names without regard to science and growers are then stuck with figuring out what they are growing due to all the misinformation found on the internet. "Mickey Mouse" is obviously a made-up name with no scientific background. As aroids mature they morph due to both natural variation and ontogeny (natural change due to growth). The link below will help you understand these processes. Here is a link that might be useful: Natural variation

I should clarify, no I don't dump them in there to drown them, I use the bucket to keep them contained and accessible, take a 2x2 or something and one quick WHACK does them in. If I just put them in the pail, they could climb up and out before killed. And sometimes if I'm not checking it for a while I put poison in there so they'll die quickly. Why not use snap traps? Simple, this will take care of 10-15 and a snap trap only one. Easily reset and reused and no bait required. Frankly though, snap traps don't require bait either. But no, I refuse to spread out 15-30 snap traps. Also I have used this ouside against the foundation of the house. Sadly, people still let their dogs and cats run free. I don't think it's humane to let a dog or cat get caught in a snap trap, do you? Plus the possibility of a kid, or for that matter a door-to-door seller stepping on it, I don't think they're that practical. I also feel this is far more humane than putting out glue boards to let them die of dehydration. Plus, I don't think I'd want to be cleaning out snap traps and reusing so I'd have to be buying a gross of them. No, I don't think so. I'll use the wind up. As far as the MIL's friend who used to shoot them, I take it you prefer leghold tooth traps so they break their legs and try to chew off their leg to get out of it? Do you really think THAT is better than a shot? It sounds mean, but shooting it is far superior the the alternative IMHO. Also, in the country, rodents are part of a food chain. Eagles, hawks, owls, fox, etc, that "country folk" taut, use them as a food source. Keeping them in town, or for that matter moving them to town (I just pictured the "Beverly Mousebillys packed up and moving) won't bring the country owls into town. Never seen it happen anyway. I will say this however. I do like mice much better, and think they need far more humane treatment (and a quick kill) than do spammers and telemarketers!! Now THERE'S a good use for the glue boards!

s Annie fixed? Maybe that's the problem with her disposition? Annie seemed different before she got spayed, but I don't know how she acted with other cats before then. (Like I mentioned above, she was just fine with Pogo when he was still nursing.) She got a little strange after the spaying, but I don't know whether to blame the surgery or the condition that preceded it. She had bloodwork before the surgery, and the doctor said he couldn't operate because her liver enzymes were so out of whack. He prescribed a drug, and I forget the details now but I remember I had to keep her in my bedroom for a month while she was on the med. During this time she drove me nuts kneading her paws on me all night. The liver problem cleared up (surprising the vet), and she was spayed. After that her personality seemed to change. The first time I met Annie, I was brushing large quantities of snow off my car, and I didn't realize there was a cat at my feet. I dumped a whole lot of snow on her all at once. She extricated herself from the mound, shook herself off, and started rubbing on my ankles. These days I don't see much of that cat. She will approach me on her own terms occasionally, leaping into my lap, for instance, but if I reach for her--or even look as though I'm about to reach for her, even just to pet her--she glares at me and takes off. We've had many cats over the years, but I don't remember one as unfriendly as Annie. Having said that, though, I have to add that she is quite devoted to my son, who doesn't live here and never feeds her. Go figure. To those who are thinking my son should take Annie so we can keep Mickey in the house, that won't happen. My son and his fiancee have two cats of their own (the "grandkittens"), and although they're fond of Annie, they would never inflict her on them.
