Labels for CD-R Question

Does anyone have any instructions on making Labels for

CD-R Holders.

I would appreciate any instructions you have to help me.

I have Microsoft Works 2002 -- Picture It Photo -- but it did not help me make the size I want for my holders.

Thank in anticipation to a reply.

I have CD Stomper. I haven't made many labels anyway. but why don't you try over at the Computer Forum or the Computer Crafts Forum. Just scroll back up to Other Forums. I'm sure someone can help if no one here has the answer.

Cricket...by "CDR holders" I'm assuming (?)you mean the jewel cases? Try looking into your burner software...most have an option to create the jewel case inserts....

RW type disks, whether it be CD or DVD, should only be used for short term storage. Either type disks will let you transfer files to a different computer. If you use the RW type disks you can edit the files on the disks. If you use the R type disks you can copy the files to a computer, then edit the files, and then put them on another disk, R or RW. RW type disks are not a reliable storage media. If you are just moving a file from one computer to another you shouldn't delete the original until until the copy is safely on the other computer. If you are just wanting to back up files on your computer, use the R type disks and make a new copy periodically. If you have a small number of files to back up consider using a web service to store them or get a USB jump drive. (very handy to have). Whatever backup solution you choose remember, it won't work if you don't use it. Pooh Bear

Would it be fair to say you have replaced your computer with a newer one using Windows 7? If so that is likely your problem, printer makers will not update drivers beyond a certain time forcing us to buy a new printer - hopefully from them again The other possible issue of course is the label making program, you've had it for a few years so perhaps it was created for XP or (shudder) Windows 98?

The CD-RW can be reused, the CD-R cannot. If anything goes wrong with the recording process while using the CD-R, the disc might have to be discarded-it may or may not be good for anything else. On the other hand, the CD-RW may not be the best choice if your goal is to maintain the quality of the recording for a very long time...especially if you have to rewrite the disc several times. There are differing opinions on this. I wouldn't try to use DVDs unless this player specifically states that this process will support DVD. Also, if the goal is to play these in your car I'd try 2 or 3 CDs (not DVD) as a test first. Many auto CD players are finicky about playing home-burned discs.

Sounds like maybe the darker color thing mentioned above may also play into it. My 2001 Grand Cherokee ( factory am/fm/cd/casette player) will not recognize burned CDs. i am currently using my laptop with XP and have tried windows player, I-tunes and BurnerXP but haven't noticed any different results from any of that different software. After going thru about 30 cds burning at different speeds and formats, I finally got it to occasionally recognize one I burnt at around 4X using PCM .wav (uncompressed) format but to recognize and play I usually have to fast forward it thru a couple of songs while it is doing the initial read. Once it recognizes and starts playing then will usually play the whole CD but doesn't always work for whatever reason. I may try the label thing or try to find some of the "dark" cds to see if that matters. We have a 98 KIA witn an aftermarket cd player and it will play just about anything burnt to cd no matter format or speed.

Cricketm, I use PictureIt 2000 and it has templates for the Cd cases. I have never used those templates. I simply measure the size that I need for the case and then in PictureIt I go to file, new and click on custom and make the page the size that I need. I design it the way I want and then print out the exact size.

My son uses CD Labeler II software for his CD labels. It also will make Case inserts.

I also just measure the size of the jewel case and design my own using Picture It. I usually don't put a label right on the cd, especially if you are going to use it in a car cd player. It can throw them off balance, causing a jam, or actually shattering the cd. If you do label the cd, one of those "cd stomper" things will help you get the label on evenly. IMPORTANT: Never try to remove a label after it has touched the disc. The adhesive can remove the top layer of lacquer on the disc, and probably the reflective layer beneath it as well, which will ruin your disc.
