Puppies are exceptionally cute tonight!

..Probably because the time for them to go is getting closer and closer. I told two people tonight 'they're eating pretty good but let's leave them on their mother for at least another week. Okay?'

They have very good hearing. I can't sneak up on them any more. They also fight for attention. I love it. I can sit at the computer and holler down the hall and they'll bark back at me. It's adorable!

Dear Eduarda, I know you are a busy, busy little bee. Thank you for taking the time to drop by. I hope you can find some time for yourself and your beautiful garden. It must be really hot over there in Portugal right now. It sure is here. I am glad you got to go on holiday to Scotland again. I envy you that. Many thanks to all of you for dropping by to check on dear little Puppy. Woody, I wormed all the dogs for Hookworms,including Puppy, and then vaccinated the other dogs for Parvo the day I found out what she had. The vet had already given her her puppy shots, but alas it was too late for her, poor baby. The vet sent home the Parvo shots for me to do the others myself. I cleaned everything with bleach, floors, and washables and used Clorox 2 for the colored things. Her toys and all were cleaned. No signs of it so far. She will be coming out this way soon to check on other people's farm animals, and will drop by here to check my dogs for heartworms and give them their other vaccinations, and as many of the cats as we can catch. :) they are afraid of strangers. One of the nice things about living in farm country and finding a good vet who is willing to do that just to save my animals and save us some money to boot. Thanks for asking. ~Annie

Just as an aside, you mentioned you were on your way into Petsmart. Our breeder does a whole big thing when people come on pickup day about the pup's feet not touching the floor in a pet store or any other place where other dogs may have done their business. She recommends this until pup's completed all of the shots (including rabies, which I believe in our State is at 4 mos?) post pick up. I know that Jack's had his dewclaws done and received all of his necessary initial shots. Apparently, if a sick dog does its business in the store and your pup inadvertently steps in something that hasn't been sanitized, and comes in contact with certain bacteria, he may become sick. I think another concern of hers is the pet stores here do adoptions and while they do their best, they do at times get dogs sick with parvo. Our breeder is certainly quirky and possessive about her pups. I felt like, well I am paying you for the dog, it is my dog to do with what I wish. Wrong answer if I want a dog from her. She checks the vehicles on pick up day to be sure that you have brought what she's told you in writing to bring to transport your pup. No sitting on your lap. She's a maniac about her pups and anyone she approves for a pup has to sit thru a mandatory tutorial-type thing on pick up day. I've now done this 3 times. She doesn't care if you've done it before, she says, "ya know, you forget things, I want to be sure the puppies are cared for properly when they leave me". Okay, I can't argue with erring on the side of caution on her part. Some may consider her a control freak, (which she is), but I would much rather secure a pup from someone who isn't just selling puppies to make money without doing the homework and hard work that good breeding requires. Definitely more so with the retrievers as there as been so much bad breeding due to their popularity. Yes, I know she makes money, but breeding labradors is her passion and she is very well respected in the labrador breeding community. She shows all over the Country and is very involved in giving back. Every litter that has at least 3 pups, one goes to be a guide (on her dime). My youngest boy was going to be her 2nd sire, but she had a black boy born 1 week after my guy. For breeding DNA purposes, she wanted the black over the yellow. I don't know the science, but she only breeds yellow and black. She's well known in our area for her dogs' quality. I have no idea how the dna thing works, but she does, and it shows. Can't wait to see more pics. How did the first night go, did you get any sleep? No accidents in the house, that's amazing. You are going to be great with a lab, and the lab will be great for you and your family! Can you tell I am passionate about labradors? So happy you chose a labbie.

skatiero, I am so excited by your post! Most definitely you may use the picture!! I looked at your website a while back when you posted it and was so impressed, both by your work and at how great you look. You had been saying you thought you didn't look well and I can't remember whether or not I posted to you at the time, but I'll tell you now that I thought you looked great. And I am always in awe of those who can channel their creativity into such fabulous works as yours. I'm very sorry about your Maltese. It is so hard to lose a pet - you do have to go through a mourning period, I think. We lost our dog, who was 16, last summer and didn't really feel ready for another until now. I married my dh when Luke (the dog) was 9 years old, so this is my first experience with a puppy. What do you think about this new name? DH even agreed to it. Our 5-year-old suddenly came up with the name Cricket, and we really think it fits. I think we could still use Shortcake as an endearment, too. Believe it or not, it even ties into the girls' desire for a Disney princess name, as Cricket is one of Mulan's companions and is supposed to bring her luck :) Cricket/Shortcake now knows how to sit, lie down, and roll over, though that one requires a treat in the hand for prompting. We're still not quite there on housebreaking and I'm not sure what I might be doing wrong (if anything). She doesn't go in her crate, she does go outside when I take her, she tells me sometimes when she needs to go out but she sometimes goes again inside or she will pee outside and then poop inside. Luckily, the floor is hardwood, but I always said I'd never had a pet that pooped in the house. Hopefully, it's a temporary training situation.

She's so darn sweet! Did she venture into the lake herself, or was she guided in on her leash? In my house, where I have had as many as 4 at a time, mine have a large area of the yard fenced off as their 'puppy pen'. They go down the stairs from the kitchen to the basement, out through two doggie doors, and into that part of the yard. When I get up, and before I go to bed, I say, 'Peeps and Poops!' and they head to the basement in a flash. During the day while I'm working, they just head out any time they want or need to. The most recent rescue, Ginger, just followed the others, and trained herself in literally minutes to head out there. Penny will, too; she's just a baby and it may take a little bit, but she will learn.

WOW They are just too cute!!!! How fun. That first pic is just the cutest!

Do you potty train them all too?? When does the little boy come and pick his? He's first, correct? We'll need to see pics of that too...well, maybe not the kids face, but his hands picking!

Nope.
No potty training here.
That's the new owner's job.
I wash puppy bedding at least twice a week; more if they start to smell sooner.
LOL

There's wall to wall old mattress covers in my store room.
Five are in the wash while some old sheets are absorbing what they can.

I need to get a picture of all of them.
It'll have to be a portrait type of photo.
I've tried to get them all in a casual shot.
Trust me.
It can't be done.
LOL

The little boy has picked his pup. She'll go down south with him next weekend. We have a ride for her....

He picked the small black puppie with the heart shaped white on it's head. She's pretty lippy and has an attitude. Sam (the little boy) and her will get along famously!
She's the 4th from left in the first photo.
His mother is a Mary Kay dealer. So I get paid in Product. How's THAT for a deal?

I bet you've had a ball. Aren't puppies fun? I remember as a kid when our dog had 8 puppies. I was in heaven. It's nice to know they all have good homes waiting for them.

Hey Lori, if I call you, will you make them bark for me? rofl I can imagine the high-pitched yapping is a riot. Your house is going to feel so empty when they're gone. What a bunch of precious little bodies to have for a while. Don't know about you, but this time has gone by so fast for me. I can't believe how big they are!

Your babies are precious!

I have only experienced one litter from a Female. My Mini Schnauzer had a litter of 7. It was so hard to let them go. Mine were very well trained to outdoors by the time they went to a new home. But, that is because I was with them 24/7 in my Den. They actually had a schedule. Every time they woke from a nap, I ran them all outside to play and potty. Same for after eating. I hyped it up and they were excited to go out and potty. I just told the new owners the schedule, so they could continue training.

They are too precious!!! I don't see how you can get anything done around your place. I would be in there playing with them all day. I keep meaning to ask - what breed are they? How big will they get?

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh! I was looking at these pics (they are all sweeter than sweet BTW), anyway was thinking oh her house is going to feel soooooo empty and quiet when those little ones leave!! (Kinda like when the GB's leave here!)

I think I'd have an awful time picking just one of them to take home with me!!!

No potty training going on here. There's three feet of snow out there. Even if I were to attempt I'm sure the puppy-wuppies would be most unhappy...too unhappy to do their business, you know?

They are Bearded Collie dogs.

Tuffy is part Bearded Collie.

Gabby's mother was Tuffy's full sister so Gabby is 1/4 bearded collie. Gabby is Mom to the puppies.

Daddy to the Puppies is Whiskers. He and Tuffy are full brother and sister.

These puppies are especially special Bearded Collies because their grandpa times three? four? was a famous Rodeo Dog named Hairy the Rodeo Dog.

Harry traveled all over Idaho, Utah and Wyoming with a rodeo company.

I can track these puppies back three generations. I know where they came from. My Dad had Harry's daughter, Top. Top was bred to a border collie named Tip and they had, among others, Tuffy, Afton (Gabby's Mom) and Whiskers.

Cool, no?

Holly AKA Achmed the Terrorist AKA Holbert AKA Holly Buns can't stand the puppies. She is certain they are taking her rightful place in the family and nothing I say will convince her otherwise. She is very jealous and somewhat afraid of them.

Ruby doesn't care one way or another as long as she has her heating pads and a scoop of catfood with her senior citizens chow every day. I got Ruby the same day Jesse started first grade. Jesse is almost twenty one now and was six at the time. Ruby is almost fifteen years old. I keep waiting for her to go downhill but she's kind of at a plateau. In fact, I've justified getting the last three dogs on the basis that 'Ruby is getting old and will be passing away soon...'
She's sure fooled me, huh? She also loves her ball, the front deck in the morning and barking at birds.She especially hates the ugly black birds that fly in and steal her dog food from her dish. Someday she WILL catch one and then they'll be sorry! She is a happy dog. Incontinent but happy. So happy she sometimes does not know the cats are sharing her heating pad. We don't tell her when this happens as it would upset her because, you see, she really doesn't like cats.

It's really quite pathetic how many times I've come back to look at these puppy pictures tonight. They just make me smile! I cannot pick a cutest, just cannot be done. I love them all, just want to hug them. I am so glad you keep posting pictures of them as they grow so fast!
