Puppies are exceptionally cute tonight!

..Probably because the time for them to go is getting closer and closer. I told two people tonight 'they're eating pretty good but let's leave them on their mother for at least another week. Okay?'

They have very good hearing. I can't sneak up on them any more. They also fight for attention. I love it. I can sit at the computer and holler down the hall and they'll bark back at me. It's adorable!

First of all, I am really no expert, but can maybe pass along some tips since I've recent gone through the housebreaking thing. It can be difficult and takes a lot of patience. My pup was pretty well paper trained from day one but after a while that got sort of frustrating when he starting dragging pee pads and chewing them and then peeing in the spot where the pee pad used to be. I find that after 5-1/2 months he is really just starting to be more dependable now and getting the hang of peeing only outside. But, I read that pugs can be more difficult to house train. He now seems to have better control to hold it longer, such as when we are gone from the house to go to work. He still has some accidents, but sometimes it's our fault if we're home because we don't realize that he's asking to go out. As he's aged and his fur has become thicker, he seems to be able to spend more times outdoors. That and milder weather really help. I still go outside with him, I'm just protective of him. He gets treats whenever he pees, but only a crumbled bit of his biscuit. One thing too, if you take him outside and he just runs back to the door to go in, pick him up and take him back to the area where you want him to pee. It doesn't always work, but often he might decide to pee the second time. Also, you will find they are easily distracted so if he's about to pee outside and the neighbor comes out of his/her door, puppy might start barking instead of peeing. My pup definitely has to go whenever he wakes up from a nap. In fact, sometimes if it's before bed I'll wake him up to take him out, or if I get up at 3 a.m. I might take him out as well. I sort of keep track and drag him outside if it's been too long. I figure the more he goes to the washroom outside the more it becomes habit and is engrained in him. Today we visited his Grandparents and he did go by the back door to go outside, which is great because I worry about him having accidents inside others peoples homes. Oh, Colleen, Calvin sure is a cutie pie! He looks so serious under his nice shady hidey place. Thanks for posting the picture and please keep the pix coming. Giving Bonnie a haircut wasn't easy. Puppies are a challenge, but first haircuts are the worst. It's not easy to give a haircut to a moving target! For doing around the eyes I use thinning shears. They are blunt on the ends. They give a nice raggedy natural look around the eyes. Straight or curved regular blades tend to give a chopped look I don't like. To work around the eyes I grab a hunk of beard to hold their head steady. I don't want to take any chances of poking them in the eye. I think if you call a groomer and ask for a tidy up on a pup who's not quite ready for his first full haircut, and take in a bathed and brushed/comed (to the skin -- no mats) dog they aren't going to charge you much or take very long. It would probably be a good junior practice session for Calvin too. I wish you lived next door. Our pups would have such fun romping together and we could train them together too. :)

I debated my hole in the wall project for quite awhile and possible load bearing problems. I cut the hole stud to stud and we will frame it in with 2 x 10 planks. Cross your fingers I don't get big cracks in the wall! I don't know if I scare my husband when I use power tools, but he always jumps right into a project after I make the initial mess. LOL I agree, sheetrock dust is a pain. I put all the plants in the shower last night and yesterday Digger complained it was in her oatmeal. My biggest problem though is deciding whether to fish the plyers out from between the wall (through all the electrical wiring) or just let it be. Hubby is all for fishing with a wire. My vote is to just buy another pair. Holly is tough to get a picture of in the house....unless she is sleeping. She likes to run and play. I will get a waddle picture someday though. Lori

She's so darn sweet! Did she venture into the lake herself, or was she guided in on her leash? In my house, where I have had as many as 4 at a time, mine have a large area of the yard fenced off as their 'puppy pen'. They go down the stairs from the kitchen to the basement, out through two doggie doors, and into that part of the yard. When I get up, and before I go to bed, I say, 'Peeps and Poops!' and they head to the basement in a flash. During the day while I'm working, they just head out any time they want or need to. The most recent rescue, Ginger, just followed the others, and trained herself in literally minutes to head out there. Penny will, too; she's just a baby and it may take a little bit, but she will learn.

WOW They are just too cute!!!! How fun. That first pic is just the cutest!

Do you potty train them all too?? When does the little boy come and pick his? He's first, correct? We'll need to see pics of that too...well, maybe not the kids face, but his hands picking!

Nope.
No potty training here.
That's the new owner's job.
I wash puppy bedding at least twice a week; more if they start to smell sooner.
LOL

There's wall to wall old mattress covers in my store room.
Five are in the wash while some old sheets are absorbing what they can.

I need to get a picture of all of them.
It'll have to be a portrait type of photo.
I've tried to get them all in a casual shot.
Trust me.
It can't be done.
LOL

The little boy has picked his pup. She'll go down south with him next weekend. We have a ride for her....

He picked the small black puppie with the heart shaped white on it's head. She's pretty lippy and has an attitude. Sam (the little boy) and her will get along famously!
She's the 4th from left in the first photo.
His mother is a Mary Kay dealer. So I get paid in Product. How's THAT for a deal?

I bet you've had a ball. Aren't puppies fun? I remember as a kid when our dog had 8 puppies. I was in heaven. It's nice to know they all have good homes waiting for them.

Hey Lori, if I call you, will you make them bark for me? rofl I can imagine the high-pitched yapping is a riot. Your house is going to feel so empty when they're gone. What a bunch of precious little bodies to have for a while. Don't know about you, but this time has gone by so fast for me. I can't believe how big they are!

Your babies are precious!

I have only experienced one litter from a Female. My Mini Schnauzer had a litter of 7. It was so hard to let them go. Mine were very well trained to outdoors by the time they went to a new home. But, that is because I was with them 24/7 in my Den. They actually had a schedule. Every time they woke from a nap, I ran them all outside to play and potty. Same for after eating. I hyped it up and they were excited to go out and potty. I just told the new owners the schedule, so they could continue training.

They are too precious!!! I don't see how you can get anything done around your place. I would be in there playing with them all day. I keep meaning to ask - what breed are they? How big will they get?

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh! I was looking at these pics (they are all sweeter than sweet BTW), anyway was thinking oh her house is going to feel soooooo empty and quiet when those little ones leave!! (Kinda like when the GB's leave here!)

I think I'd have an awful time picking just one of them to take home with me!!!

No potty training going on here. There's three feet of snow out there. Even if I were to attempt I'm sure the puppy-wuppies would be most unhappy...too unhappy to do their business, you know?

They are Bearded Collie dogs.

Tuffy is part Bearded Collie.

Gabby's mother was Tuffy's full sister so Gabby is 1/4 bearded collie. Gabby is Mom to the puppies.

Daddy to the Puppies is Whiskers. He and Tuffy are full brother and sister.

These puppies are especially special Bearded Collies because their grandpa times three? four? was a famous Rodeo Dog named Hairy the Rodeo Dog.

Harry traveled all over Idaho, Utah and Wyoming with a rodeo company.

I can track these puppies back three generations. I know where they came from. My Dad had Harry's daughter, Top. Top was bred to a border collie named Tip and they had, among others, Tuffy, Afton (Gabby's Mom) and Whiskers.

Cool, no?

Holly AKA Achmed the Terrorist AKA Holbert AKA Holly Buns can't stand the puppies. She is certain they are taking her rightful place in the family and nothing I say will convince her otherwise. She is very jealous and somewhat afraid of them.

Ruby doesn't care one way or another as long as she has her heating pads and a scoop of catfood with her senior citizens chow every day. I got Ruby the same day Jesse started first grade. Jesse is almost twenty one now and was six at the time. Ruby is almost fifteen years old. I keep waiting for her to go downhill but she's kind of at a plateau. In fact, I've justified getting the last three dogs on the basis that 'Ruby is getting old and will be passing away soon...'
She's sure fooled me, huh? She also loves her ball, the front deck in the morning and barking at birds.She especially hates the ugly black birds that fly in and steal her dog food from her dish. Someday she WILL catch one and then they'll be sorry! She is a happy dog. Incontinent but happy. So happy she sometimes does not know the cats are sharing her heating pad. We don't tell her when this happens as it would upset her because, you see, she really doesn't like cats.

It's really quite pathetic how many times I've come back to look at these puppy pictures tonight. They just make me smile! I cannot pick a cutest, just cannot be done. I love them all, just want to hug them. I am so glad you keep posting pictures of them as they grow so fast!
