Once I finish my pre-bed tasks and my nightly reading, it takes only a few minutes. Which is a huge change from when I was a kid and had terrible insomnia.

I don't go to bed until I'm ready to fall asleep.

But when I do, I get all comfortable and within, I'd say seconds, I'm gone. 99% of the time.

I like most have a night once in a great while when I have worries on my mind that I just can't shut off.

Maybe 15 minutes or so... IF I don't have something to do the next day. In that case it can take hours. Last night I went to bed at 11:00, but couldn't fall asleep until about 1 am. Of course today I had to be up by 7:00 for a friend's early visit and now I am crabby and tired. I need at least 8 hours sleep to function well.

Lately it has taken far too long. We are getting a new mattress delivered today so I hope that solves the problem.

Sometimes close to an hour, I have neck problems, so I'm always adjusting my pillow, my head, etc. Wish I knew of a pillow that would take care of this.

It varies, but it is seldom under thirty minutes, and sometimes it takes more than an hour.

I've been this way all my life. It doesn't seem to make a difference what time I go to bed,I never fall asleep quickly.

I rarely have a problem falling to sleep, it's waking up 2 or 3 times during the night that annoys me. I fall right back to sleep after I go to the bathroom, but I don't feel rested in the AM after a night like that.

Sue used to say that I could sleep any time ... and any place.

Don't think that it takes long at home, but when I bedded down a while ago on son's sofa, they said that a couple of(?) ... few(?) minutes after I'd lain down, they spoke to me and got no answer, and when they looked, that I was sound asleep.

I often function after about 4 hours, sometimes 3 ... but find that, when things are quiet on the next day ...

... that I may tend to nod off.

I've always had trouble falling asleep. It isn't unusual for me to lie awake until 3:00 in the morning.

Lately I discovered a breathing technique that helped a lot but it doesn't seem to be working anymore, so I've resorted to an OTC sleep aid. Even that sometimes takes a long time, but with it, at least I don't lie awake until 3:00 in the morning anymore.

and I stay asleep for 8 hours or so!

It used to be that I seldom suffered from insomnia... but did occasionally.... and when I had my hubby to snuggle with, it usually took only a few minutes to drift off. Now, that I have the bed to myself... (not counting the dogs), it takes me a lot longer, maybe an hour of so... depending on how tired I am....

I've had insomnia since I was a child so it's usually one to two hours or more to fall asleep. I hate going to bed as I know I have tossing and turning, more exercise than when I'm up lol. I won't take any drugs, tried it and felt like a glom all day. When I do fall asleep I generally sleep six to seven hours tops.

Luckily, I've always been a good sleeper. I usually fall asleep in anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes. I can easily sleep ten hours if I have the chance. I can't function well without at least 6-7 hours of sleep.

Every great once in awhile if I'm thinking too much it will take me a long time and I hate that! I feel so bad for the insomniacs!

I don't go to bed until I'm about to fall of my chair, so I go right to sleep. Staying asleep is another thing. I'll sleep 4 hours and then be wide awake. Sometimes I can get back to sleep after about 1/2 an hour, but other times that's all the sleep I get until the next night. I have been waking up because I'm hot, even though the ceiling fan is on and I only have the sheet over me. Drives me bonkers.

I take a tylanol p.m. each night to help me fall asleep, if I take only one it works great and I fall asleep with in just a few minutes and I drift off and stay asleep all night.
I wake up and feel fine, however if I take more than 1 I will be groggy the next morning.

I take Excedrin PM every night, so it doesn't take me long to fall asleep at all. Staying asleep? That's another story.

Takes me about a minute. Two minutes tops. It's amazing we ever had children.......

I read sometimes when I go to bed at night. Sometimes I can read for 45 minutes to an hour, sometimes 10 minutes. When the book starts to fall out of my hand, light goes off and I'm asleep immediately. Every now and then I just can't get to sleep. Just not tired. Not a lot of worries on my mind, just can't get to sleep. I can lay there for hours. It hasn't happened in months and months but I can almost always count on it happening when I have to be somewhere early in the morning. Never happens when I can just sleep in...grrrrrr!

Hours to fall asleep......I hate it.

I can sleep anywhere. I have the unique talent of being able to fall asleep, even if I'm not sleepy. ;)

At night time, I'm usually asleep with seconds of crawling into bed.

Insomnia hits when I'm stressed or frightened (or both).

I only go to sleep in minutes if I am VERY tired. OTOH, if I am truly EXHAUSTED, it takes longer. (Go figure.)

I didn't have a problem until post-menopause. Now I have a generic for Ambien 5 mg that I will take if I can't get to sleep within an hour or can't get back to sleep if I wake before 3 a.m. (One or the other -- not two pills in one night.)

I used the Ambien Monday night on the redeye home from Hawaii and got a good four hours more than my DH. Next time I'm going to add the blindfold to see if I can get even more.

Depends on how much I have on my mind. Most of the time I read a bit then drop off but very seldom sleep thru like I use to. No meds yet but sometimes if I wake up then get up and finish a project I go right to sleep.
I like darkness, no noise, and a cool room.

Like some others I don't go to bed until I'm sleepy so I fall asleep within minutes. I rarely sleep through the night without waking up usually around 3am. Lately I've been falling right back to sleep. At times if I've had a lot going on at work I've had a harder time getting back to sleep.

About 10 or 20 minutes. When I feel I am going to have a hard time getting to sleep i will take a xanax.

Me...seconds....and DH....he has a 30 minute lunch break at work. He takes a 15 minute nap every day and I've seen him do it...he's snoring...!!!! His watch is set to beep continuously at 12:30 every day.

Only a few minutes but I take a swig of NyQuil..lol

Bigak, I bought an expensive pillow that has more than paid off as I do not have neck problems anymore. It's a European Sleepworks pillow and it killed me to pay that much, but by golly it did the trick. A sore neck is awful to live with and often leads to headaches--I feel for you.
