You enjoy one so much that you don't want it to end for the night?

I so enjoy Nashville, that I wish it wouldn't end and keep on going.

Love that show.

Dvr'd and watched it tonight and wish it would not end.

You have a favorite you enjoy and feel the same?

I would not do it. It puts unnecessary strain on your neck or forces people to lie back like the dead and it's hard enough to teach my kids to not slouch. You might not think the neck thing matters but we all get old .. if we're lucky. It also makes me feel like I'm in a bar, an airport, or a bad restaurant. Sorry, if that offends anyone, it's how I feel and so far all of my clients have agreed without needing any persuasion. But that doesn't mean it's wrong to do it. Only the owner's family needs to like it. To me it's just not that difficult to put the TV to one side with the great adjustable brackets now available. The proper height of a TV is easy to determine, just sit on a couch, look straight ahead, and have someone measure the point you feel comfortable looking at. Perhaps take an average of your family members. If I had to do it, I would at least put the fireplace box tight to the floor, the mantel low, and be able to enclose the TV when not in use. These things are not pretty. It would also help to recess it and tip it downward for better viewing and less reflected light. I was in an Italian restaurant in the 60's called Charlie's that had multiple gas fireplaces recessed into the wall above seated head height. Would that work?

Sue we have a small TV in our bedroom. Technically it's too small but even when I had a console table for it in place of the piece I have now (which greatly restricts the size we could use) I would not get a larger screen. Just as you mentioned, I don't want the TV to be the focal point - it's not a media room. Our viewing distance is a lot farther than yours - close to 16' and our TV is a 23". But the reality is, when in bed the ONLY thing I watch is the 10pm news and possibly a bit of Nightline. Neither requires big screen viewing IMO. The only other time I watch that TV is if I'm ironing and for that I'm much closer so distance and screen size are not a factor. We used to have a console table as I said but it was a particle board piece of junk so I got rid of it. That viewing height was very similar to what we have now which is about 32". However, before we drilled the back of this cabinet the TV sat on top for a loooong time and that viewing height is about 48" - 50" and it was fine. In fact, my DH worried he wouldn't like it lower again but since I gave him no choice, he's adjusted ;-) These are taken with my head pretty much on my pillow as it would be for viewing. And I can also tell you that at night, I can't read the time on that Bose clock radio to save my life!!! As you can see here, the DVD player is shoved in behind the TV - we never used it so didn't bother to hook it back up.

"Plus, sleep and marriage experts generally recommend to save the bedroom for sleep and sex, and since one statistic showed couples with TVs in the bedroom have half as much sex as couples without TVs in the bedroom" Really??? I don't know who these "experts" interviewed, but I can assure you that the tv has never presented a problem in the intimacy department in my own home. Also, I find it sad these so called "experts" deem the bedroom as the only suitable room for sex in one's home. IMO, lack of imagination, or perhaps some other undisclosed "issues" in the marriages of those who were interviewed by these "experts" seem to be the more likely intervening factor. Our bedroom tv sits on a bookcase on the wall across from our bed, since DH uses the armoire for storing some off season clothing.

Thanks Lars! My house is 1150 sq feet so I've found it really difficult to decorate with size appropriate furniture. So much seems to be designed for bigger homes, most homes in my area are in the 3000+ sq foot range. My friends all have lots of decor and tchotchkes, and while I like that look I've found simple works better in my limited space. Its really hard to edit down decor, but it makes cleaning my house much easier! I bought the grandfather clock when I was in my 20s and I've been in love with it ever since. My house fortunately has a full basement which was unfinished when I bought it, so my husband and I finished it ourselves. BTW, even though my user name looks like it, I'm not actually a Mr :) Anyhow, a couple years ago we built a dirt cheap budget theater down there, and since it does include a tv, I'll add a photo of that as well. The tv can be a mirror of the screen, or work independently. It's a 42" wall mounted plasma tv, an Ikea besta cabinet holding a receiver, roku, tv tuner, blu ray, and misc electronics. The screen is 10 foot diagonal, and is just flat paint and wood molding directly on the drywall. There are 7 speakers and a subwoofer hidden throughout the room, and 4 power leather recliners.

Pretty Little Liars on ABC Family Tuesdays at 8 pm. I started watching it because one of my best friend's (from High School ) daughter is in it. She has limited scenes now, but I am hooked so don't want to miss the show or for it to end. LOL. Now my friend's daughter will be in the new season of Army Wives. Her name is Torrey DeVitto.

I feel that way about The Good Wife. While it may not be escapism I think it's really great television.

I really like NCIS. The characters seem to all really like each other even when they get aggravated with each other. And I like that they are highlighting more of the secondary characters recently.

Scandal goes by too fast for me.

I've recently started watching The Americans on FX (which I found on Hulu.com)...it sure has grabbed my interest.

I agree that there's so much packed into every episode of Scandal that I'm left wishing I had more to watch each week and I hate weeks like this one when there isn't a new episode. Summer hiatus is going to be a real bummer.

Downton Abbey, The Americans and Elementary keep me enthralled as well.

I like medical shows and I've become hooked on Monday Mornings on TNT. It's based on Dr. Sanjay Gupta's book, which I'm not familiar with. The shows seems to deal mainly with the legal and ethical end of medical treatment, which has always interested me. Apparently the critics don't enjoy it as much as I do, so I'd better watch while I can.

Hellion-I'm glad someone else watches PLL!! I love it, although I am pretty lost with all the twists and turns! Who is your friend's daughter?

I am like that with certain shows, mostly crime ones...The Closer (when it was on) Rizzoli and Isles, Monk, Law & Order, Body of Proof.

I don't watch any of those fictional shows mentioned above. I do watch Duck Dynasty. I really like that show because it takes me back to when I was very young, because of the resemblances to my family. My DM was a Kay. One of my brothers was a "Jase," and one was a "Willie." And my family did a lot of duck hunting, and we had a lot of fun.

I watch real legal/criminal and medical cases, because that is where my interests are . . . searching for facts and the truth, in the real world. Dominic Dunne, ID Discovery, are 2 of my favorites. Recently ID Discovery did the case of a double murder in the town about 5-6 miles from here, that happened years ago. I had a vague memory of the case.

Maxmom, I need to look for Monday Mornings. I usually don't watch TV in the mornings, other than the news. I would probably like it because I like Sanjay Gupta.

I put off watching Revenge. I have to be in the right frame of mind to watch it, though it is one of my favorites. Generally watch it later in the week.
