It's hard to make suggestions in a vacuum, IYKWIM! If one of the questions you are asking is if you should get white fixtures, I'd say yes, since you don't care for the black. White is never a bad choice for fixtures - classic. That leads into other issues, like the faucet. Currently it's brass, as are the other metal items. Will you be getting a new faucet with the new sink or re-use this one? Will you choose a brass finish again if you replace the faucet? If you choose a different faucet finish, will you keep current towel ring, hook, knobs etc or match the new faucet? What about the shower ?

As for vanity style, your furnishings seem to be very traditional, woods are mid to dark toned, I'd say that's your style preference. However, your wall color is very bold, not what I consider a traditional choice for traditional design! That doesn't mean your powder room has to be an extension of your living areas and duplicate color/style. That's one space that people often feel free to be different because it's small and not one where you spend a lot of time. Way too early to suggest PR wall color.

Yes, I think I will go for white. I also want to keep the brass faucet and other fittings throughout. That much is settled. The path of least resistance would be to put in a new white pedestal and toilet but I still prefer switching to a vanity. I have looked and looked at 30 inch vanities in black, white and darker wood tones. Style is a question, and so is colour: dark base vanity with light or dark top, and white toilet? white base with light or dark top? If that much could be figured out, I would be another step ahead.

I think the toilet should be about the same white as the tile (not too bright, as I see the tile as matte on my monitor). The vanity cabinet could be the same dark wood as you have now in the little table. The vanity top should match the seat in and next to the shower.

I would do a black granite vanity top to match the other granite in shower and shelf.

Vanity color can really be anything you like. A wood tone to go with floor color, or white, or even another painted color.

You can get a larger pedestal sink so that there is more room for soap next to faucet. I personally prefer a vanity, but just wanted to put it out there that you don't have to forgo a pedestal if you like the look and don't need the cabinet for storage.

I love the black fixtures, but it sounds like you are ready for white.

I would do a vanity in a warm wood, with some detailed carving and touches of gold to work with the brass fixtures and the mirror. more of a furniture-looking piece. The top would be great in the Black Galaxy, a one piece look - no white sink.

Paint the cabinet above the bench either in the wall color or in black.

As for the wall color, a warm grey would be nice, or a rich plum.

Wow, these suggestions are so great and I am seeing more clearly what some options could be. I do like the idea of the Black Galaxy for the vanity top, and also Jillinnj's reminder that a larger pedestal is an option -- my backup in case I can't find the perfect vanity ;)

So I will resume my vanity hunt. Les917, while the black is dramatic and we have had lots of positive comments over the years, it shows every little water and soap mark (and worse yet toothpaste residue when guests use this room). I appreciate your suggestions about vanity style and paint.

We put a pretty furniture-type vanity in the powder room of our new house. It came with a black granite top with a white undermount sink. It is walnut stained and quite pretty with carving and curvy legs. I will try to take a pic tomorrow. It was economical, especially compared to what it would have cost from my cabinetry company. I think something like that would be a good choice!
