URGEN, what to use to clean clothes with paint overspray?

UGH and UGH, ya, I'm out there in the wind, thinking it's blowing the other direction away from me, and I'm painting wicker baskets this time, rubber gloves and a can of paint and I'm holding each basket to make sure they dont blow away!! (using these for valentines gifts in my booth). And I accidentally bump a red basket into my jacket came in to clean it somehow and then realized that the whole front of my jacket is covered.

What will work to clean it?

I hope someone has had this experience and can offer a good tip

SOON, lol, I like that jacket and it's the only warm one I have so I have to try anyway to clean it up.

Oh nooo!
Here are some tips I've not heard of but am going to bookmark for oil-based. (I normally use Goof Off, but always wear old jeans n shirts so spray drift is no big deal if it happens. I'd be inclined to worry about Goof Off on a good coat, but you could test it somewhere.)

If water-based spray paint, use rubbing alcohol an a q-tip or cotton ball.

I guess had I spelled URGENT correctly, I might have gotten responses quicker ;)

Well, I ended up trying to remove the paint with mineral sprits which worked. SOME, then used about 1/2 a bottle of shout sprayed on and tossed her in the washer.

The once baby blue coat now has a tinge of pink tint all on it's front and the red smear did NOT come out. So now I have a great new painting coat. Woo hoo

It was clearly cold enough yesterday that it numbed my brain. oh well. I really thought the wind was NOT blowing it towards, me sure didnt feel that way. Got in the shower later and discovered I also had a red glaze on my face and streaks in my hair. Always wanted to be a red head ;)

Wow, I did not think so many people did not clean them, well I mean disinfect, not clean for prettyness. Non of you guyshave a problem? Maybe the chance of carrying over semething from last year is not that high? Anyway, thanks for your responces. I still like to disinfect them anyway so not to take a chance and have something happen after all my hard work. I just hate using bleach because I always ruin some kind of clothing no matter how careful I am, plus I live on a lake and I try not to use stuff that can harm the wildlife. But it is not like the amount a bleach I use could hurt anything. I was thinking maybe an organic fungicide might work but I guess not. I also have this stuff called Physan 20 which is suppose to be an awesome disinfectant for plants and tools but I see no mention of being used on veggie plants so I was afraid to use it on my cages/stakes. For some reason, the hydrogen peroxide link does not seen to go to where I think it is suppose to go? Thanks! Christy

Very true, kfhl - many air fresheners work by using nasal anesthetics to keep you from smelling whatever you're trying to cover up. Now that I have very few things that are chemically scented in the house, walking past the aisle of air fresheners actually burns my nose. We use natural beeswax candles if we want to use one - but that's usually saved for power outages. As far as the free and clear products are concerned...you can't be certain that it is safe for allergy sufferers. My husband is actually allergic to many components of commercially produced free/clear products - including a chemical that is frequently added to such products to 'remove' the other strong smells in the product to create a 'fragrance free' item - in lieu of adding a 'fragrance'.

Chrissy, I understand that people want to protect their floors and carpets - all of that - but I think we should be more concerned about *people* than about our floors...I had a friend who had to wear special inserts in her shoes to keep her knees from dislocating. When she was in a shoes off home, she had to walk on the sides of her feet to keep her knees in place. It looked *awfully* uncomfortable...I guess I don't see how people can do that - insist that shoes come off, even if it makes their guests uncomfortable...yes, I could take "indoor only" shoes when I go places, but I don't have a huge shoe wardrobe - to have indoor shoes only. My goodness. And since they are tie shoes (not slip on), they're a pain to switch.... Sorry. Perhaps this is a bit off topic, but it does relate to cleaning floors - doesn't it? :-P

True...it is not a regular punch list item..but since his subcontractor created the damage we were figuring this should be on his list. I have the deck installer coming in the morning to take a look at it. Hopefully he will know what to do. By the way the white trim paint is a Sherwin Williams pro mar 200 alkyd semi gloss....would this be oil based? Or water based? We also have got a good amount to clean up in other areas that the “ wonderful“ painter got on our tile and hardwood. Wondering what will remove it from those areas.?

uh ya think ;)

Well, it wasn't actually so cold out, the sun was out most of the time but I WAS COLD and the wind was blowing off and on, I guess I happened to spray something when it was ON, plus normally I have a table set up to hold my items I'm working on, but when the wind would blow just the slightest, my baskets would blow off the table, so I was holding onto them and spraying them.

A girls gotta do what a girls gotta do.

Guess that's one way to get a spray on tan & new hair color. ;) Sorry to hear about the coat.

Hi rjinga, do you have a fenced in yard? I always paint on the side of the house, and between the house and fence, don't get as much wind as out in the open. I'll also use a large piece of cardboard(mirror/picture moving box)and place it against the fence for overspray and it's also handy for painting things like picture frames.

By the way, where is your booth and what things do you sell? I have a space in Austin TX...actually it's in Round Rock, a small community just outside of Austin. There are 100+ dealers. I'm having fun, *not* making a ton of money, and have been doing it for a year this April. Keeps me from spending money on other things I don't need. ;o)

pattycakes, I sent you an email :)

i do have a fenced in yard, but all the things I want to paint are in my garage and I just didnt want to haul it all around. so I usually work on the drive way. My fence is more like a picket fence, so it doesnt block the wind well.

Nope, picket fence would be as bad as out in the open.
