Hm, a timely thread. I too need a good white. The house will be white walls top to bottom. It's a contemporary, modern loft-like space. The floors are going to be painted hardwood in a warm grey colour. I do not want yellow undertones either. The house gets a ton of sun and I live in a cold sunny climate. Suggestions much appreciated.

I have 2 designs I am going to post--#1 is an L shaped kitchen, #2 is with a peninsula. There are pros and cons to each--#1 is more open and creates the "great room" with the kichen and living room essentially being one big room (see my first post for photos of the current space). With this design I would have a table and chairs for eating, which is very comfortable and conducive to talking because you can see each other. Messy kitchen can be very obvious to those in living room. #2 Helps define the kitchen and living room as two separate spaces. Peninsula offers more prep space and a bit more storeage. Has the peninsula for eating and this would be in lieu of a dining table and chairs. There just isn't enough space for both, however I do have a big round table on my large lanai (patio) and since this is Maui, most times you can eat outside. Peninsulas are not as comfortable to many people for sitting at in comparison to a table/chairs. Conversations are more challenging since people typically sit in a row and can't see each other. Not so good for a more formal dinner. Stools can be upholstered with seats that match the sofa or chair, add some green granite to the counter and can tie the two spaces together. What are your thoughts regarding the two designs and which would you prefer? Design #1 I should add that the refrigerator will go in the spot where the utility cart is in the corner--you'll need to see the first photo in my earlier post with the photos of my condo to see where that is. Laquer paint doesn't go with the style of your cabinets. You can paint the cabinets white, although that is a big and expensive undertaking. Make sure the white is a warm white that works with your crown molding and countertops. Or just paint your walls a warmer color that minimizes the creaminess of your cabinets, which would be substantially easier and less costly.

some of these may work better w/the brown tones. if doing a tile splash, bring in something w/some variation, like that tile here. I also gave you a warm ORB hardware choice. the tiny nickel knobs just disappear. notice the runner w/the warmer whites/tans and soft blues. The soft blue is a natural coordinating color w/your browns. I like the warm wood stools. perfect choice. now bring in some other colors (like the soft blues or greens) warmer whites, and the stone colors for the walls. last thing you want is a gray. I believe it's Seneca tiles, copper brown blend. (they have regular subways too) Look how good this looks you can't use anything bright white against those cabs. it will only make them look dingier. you need creamy off-whites in the yellow zone Repainting those cabs will be well above the 6K mark. repainting the walls, removing the brown backsplash, and tiling w/one of these, will make a world of difference, and be cheaper
