I don't post often but I've been lurking for probably 5 or 6 years now. I live in Owen Sound, Ontario. We are about 2 hrs north-west of Toronto on Georgian Bay.

I'm in Manitoba, a couple of hours from Winnipeg.

I used to live in New Brunswick, hence the username! LOL

I live in Kamloops, British Columbia, it is located in the lower part of the province. Lots of lakes and mountains around here, great for summer and winter activities. Semi desert area, somewhat extreme heat in the summer.

You're right, we were almost neighbours. If I remember correctly from the Cooking Forum, you moved from Chestermere. We've lived in Airdrie since Dec/99, having moved here from S.W. Calgary, where we were since Spring 1988.

Mande, I worked for Mountain View Memorial Gardens for 5 yeas in the '80's.
Although I worked from the office,on 5th Ave. N.E., isn't Chestemere close to the cemetery?
I loved Calgary and being so close to the mountains. I loved to watch all the hot air balloons as well.

Ivamae, I lived on the very next sideroad up from MountainView Cemetery, Conrich Rd, I think they call it Range Rd 284 now, towards Chestermere, where the MountainView Campground is.

Mande I packed up and sold the place in Aug 06 when the prices were sky high. It's all McMansions etc going up along that road now. They'll probably use my house as a gardenshed or garage.

Thanks PKGuy for responding to ivamae's question. You would definitely be more familiar with this area than I am as I don't really go to that area. My husband may have been able to answer this as he usually goes golfing at Lakeside at least once or twice a year.

Ivamae, you're right, it is neat to see the hot air balloons on the calm mornings and evenings. We see the mountains every clear morning on our way to work, and sometimes get a little too used to seeing them to appreciate their beauty.

About the only thing I really really miss about my place back there near Chestermere is that mountain view. When the house was built in 92 and on the market we went for a look-see. I walked in the front door, up the few steps to the living room to a wall of windows facing the city and a fabulous view of the Rockies, that's what sold me on it.

You're right, PK, especially at this time of the year when the sun is just rising while driving west and shining it's pinks and oranges on the brilliant snow caps.

Maybe I should pitch a tent near Ft. Mac during the summer and talk to the gals/guys about building a retirement fund??

Gals first, cause they usually earn less, live longer than the guys (gals being tougher, that is), so need a larger retirement fund.

The biggest daily thing I've noticed since moving back here though is how much cheaper groceries are than they ever were in Alberta. You never saw prices at Safeway or Co-op as cheap as here.

Me too, I am Canadian. Newfoundlander by birth, married to a military man. We have a house in Nova Scotia but currently living in Belgium. Expect to be back in Canada this coming summer but they haven't really told us yet. I'm still waiting to hear what will happen this year.
