View from kitchen window for Lavender Lass

Hi Lavender. Many months ago you asked me for pics of my view out of the kitchen window when discussing my new kitchen plans. Sorry it's taken me so long to get these for you.

These are from last spring. The garden looked better the year before as we were preening for the county garden tour. Anyway, disregard the stray hoses, toys, and Fir cone collection in these pics. They were spontaneous.

From from the garage gate looking down the side of the house. Kitchen window is the small one at the end. French doors are the ones in front of our banquette. The two new windows flanking the rangetop will have this view.

Here's one standing in front of the kitchen window looking towards the deck.

Just for fun....our new cleanup sink window will have a view almost like this, but with a bit more of the deck in the foreground.

The funny thing is that I'm posting these on a day when these views are covered in at least 9" of snow!!

Breezy- Thanks for the pictures! Your garden is beautiful and I can tell you live in western Washington. What lovely trees and greenery in the background. Are those cedars in the last picture?

I can see why you wanted more windows...and didn't want to lose the french door in the new dining room! The secret path is great...I'm guessing your little boy loves that part of the garden :)

You got a lot of snow, too! We have about 8 inches, but it's drifted around, so it's 3 inches in one spot and 14 in another. It just quit snowing and the blizzard warning expired about ten minutes ago. Typical February weather in eastern Washington...and it sounds like you're getting more of it, lately, over there, too!

Have you finalized your remodel plans? I love your marble for the island (I think I forgot to comment on that post!) Anyway, I look forward to seeing all the progress on your beautiful remodel...and spring garden pictures!!!

Just stopping by for an update... Nancy- So true! We're kind of falling in between, but finally started the out patient therapy at a better facility. Unfortunately, it's $95 a trip (out of pocket/not covered by insurance) every time he takes the handicap accessible transport van. Well, my husband finally got Medicaid today! That should help with the medical bills not covered by our insurance and the van. He's getting stronger, but wants to come home yesterday! I know that means he's feeling better, but it's probably still another few months before he's home. School is going really well and I got A's and B's in all my classes. I'm signed up for next quarter, which starts April 1. Honestly, our income has taken a huge hit, but I refuse to worry about that and just keep taking it one day at a time. School loans have helped and if he gets disability that will really help! We still have our home based business, which will be getting a little rehab of its own, when my husband gets home. Hopefully, we can build that back up in about six months and be back on our feet, again. No pun intended :) I'm still planning our home remodel, but it's going to be put on hold for a bit. More time to plan! Seriously, I'm so glad we didn't start anything...all I would have needed is a partially torn apart house, on top of everything else. So...bottom line, things are going well, my husband is doing great with his therapy and I hope to have life a bit more back to normal, by the early fall. In the meantime, I'm going to play in my garden and have fun at school. The weather is going to be too nice this weekend (in the 50s) to do anything indoors...so I'll be pulling weeds and planning my new garden bed!

I changed computers (upgraded) and managed to mess up my picture albums....again. Sorry, but I do still have most of them if anyone wants a cottage pic. As for the home search....we went to see the little blue house (finally) that comes with the acreage. We walked around the outside last weekend, but finally saw the inside. It's going to need some work, but it does have potential. We couldn't move in 'as is' although people were living in it, up to a month ago. I think they left there dogs inside...a lot. Without letting them out, if you know what I mean. Anyway, after YEARS of trying to come up with ideas for our old farmhouse (which is even in more need of repair) I think I can come up with some great ideas for this little house. It does have some nice views and if we open up a few walls, I think it could be just right for us. The kitchen and bath need a lot of work (don't they always?) but there are some nice details and the layout is good. No bathroom in the middle of the house or awkward roof lines. That makes things much easier! Still talking to owner about price, etc. but with a lot of work, this could be a very nice little home and have some of the charming details I've always wanted. I don't need a huge house, but I do like larger rooms with fireplaces. As most of you know....big kitchen, smaller work area, seating/table and some kind of fireplace/wood stove. So much cozier than separate spaces :)

Hi LL, Ditto what momo said. I was going to post on that thread, but it had fallen off the first page last I checked and I didn't want to bump it back up. I enjoy reading your posts and seeing the evolution of your house plans, and the bulk of my inspiration photos come from your posts. Well, you would be sitting down with my tuxedo cat also. Whenever I make a nice breakfast on the weekends such as pancakes, eggs and bacon she jumps right on my chair and peers over the spread. She will not commence eating until the tea is "drawn" properly--what manners !(no I do not give her that food-she eats her "homemade chicken or Turkey stew with veggies and liver/gizzards)But she dreams of pancakes covered in butter I'm sure.

Lavender--You're welcome too! The conifers in the last pic are Doug firs. Notice DS's collection of cones on the flagstone patio. He doesn't gravitate to my secret path for some reason. He likes the new kitchen garden with all the paths better. It might be because he finds all kinds of tasty things to eat on his wanderings there.

Wow, I just noticed how much moss is covering the small brick patio out
the French doors in the first pic! I'm a great moss grower, that's for sure!

Thanks Rosie. I wish you lived next door too instead of my nasty neighbors who once called me names yelling across our yards while I was having a conversation in my driveway with a city water official. Real classy.

Wow! What a beautiful view Breeygirl! You're lucky you have such a great garden between you and your nasty neighbor - I only have about 12 feet and a sparse evergreen between me and mine!

I should have mentioned that we built every structure you see, and we planted every single plant (trees included) in that yard except the two very tall conifers. The "before" pics are awful!

I LOVE the view from your kitchen window. I like how serene it feels with the subtle pops of yellow. Unfortunately my kitchen is up higher then gardens and I don't have a super nice view right now, but I'm wokring on expanding my gardens out into my yard, so hopefully soon I'll have a lovely view as well.

I love the soft golds in the spring after I've been sun-starved for months. When those plants fully come to life around the kitchen, all of the visible soil is covered. The golds fade a bit mid-summer to make way for the daylilies and for the blues and purples of the hydrangeas. Good luck with your gardens. We've been working hard for about 10 years to reach this point. It's soooo worth the work in the end. Good luck!

Breezy, I need to re-landscape my front yard this spring. Maybe you could make a trip to Denver and help me figure out what we should do! If you don't plan landscapes professionally, you should! Wonderful gardens and landscaping! Thanks so much for sharing.

Hi Flwrs. Never been to Denver! I would love to be able to grow Agastaches like you can there. I'm not a pro. Just have a passion for plants, and I live in one of the world's best gardening climes. My grandparents used to breed Begonias in underground greenhouse tunnels under their yard. It was amazing. I still remember the hummusy smell to this day. I guess that's where I fell in love with plants! Anyway, thanks for the compliments!

Lavender--I forgot to answer your question about our plans. I'm making the final decision on the placement of the new deck door this weekend. I hired our ex-contractor, who does very good work, to do the framing NEXT WEEK!!! I can't believe I actually HIRED someone to START work!!! I've been waiting so many months to get started. I need one more quote on the windows before I order just to check pricing, but couldn't get to that at the end of this week with all the snow and two fussy kids. This weekend I also need to finalize my cab/drawer layout so I can get final quotes by the end of next week. Hurray for forward progress!
