I tried it Glenda...just for you..but my poor little camera just isn't strong enough to take a picture that far.

If I had film for my 35mm I could get a pic with that one...but I don't...so maybe someone else with a better camera will get a picture

I took a bunch but they are terrible! This was the best I got! We stood out there and froze...the wind is blowing so bad and it's a freezing wind! But we watched it until it was total...then I had to come in!

I was thinking about it but then forgot. We had the perfect night, although freezing out to watch the eclipse.

One of my hobbies is astronomy, has been ever since I was a little kid and for Christmas this year I received 2 telescopes, one of them a deep space telescope. I usually use my binnoculars to look at the stars but I was really looking forward to setting up the telescope to look at the rings of Saturn.

I must be stupid or something, but I couldn't see anything through the telescope. I set the tripod up, put the lens in the mirror refractor thingy and tried to find the moon or at least a star and I couldn't focus on anything. How hard can it be? I kept looking down through the lens and wasn't finding what I was looking for. Heck, I couldn't even get a clear shot of the moon. I stood outside for about 45 minutes in sub freezing temps and froze my fingers off for nothing. I could see more with my naked eye than I could with that thing. LOLOL

This is a good telescope, not a cheap one so it should have worked. LOL Don't ask me if I took the lens cap off because I did. MY friend had the nerve to ask me that. ROFL.

I finally gave up and stood inside looking at the eclipse through the side door where I had the perfect view.

Anyone know how to work a telescope or want to give me any tips on how to use one.

Glenda, try the NASA site, they were supposed to be having live video feeds I think.

Our exchange student took these between 8:45 & 9PM central time. Northern Illinois. Our view is perfect, but way too cold to stay outside for long!

We got all ready to watch the eclipse from the hot tub, but realized when we walked outside that the moon wasn't high enough to see from the hot tub. So we went back inside, and I put my fleece pants and clogs on and went back out. I watched for about ten minutes, then DH came out with the camera and took a couple photos. The moon was a hazy orange color, and a dark cloudy shadow had moved almost totally over it. It didn't look like anything more was happening, and I was cold (it was about 40 here), so I went in.

About ten minutes later we went in the hot tub, and the moon was high enough to see from there. The orange color had faded, and the moon was completely shadowed, with just a sliver of brightness in the lower right. We watched for about 20 minutes, then DH got dressed and grabbed the camera again. He watched until the moon was about half bright.

The photos didn't come out very well, but they're not too bad. It was a beautiful night--clear, cold, no wind, the coyotes were howling.

We were able to see it around 945 last night, but couldn't get any decent pictures - too hazy. It was an amazing site!

I looked at it a few times between 9:00 and 9:30. I didn't get any shots of it though. To da** cold out. It was very pretty.

It was cool to watch, but so cold. DH and a neighbor stayed out the whole time, but I had to come in to warm up from time to time. You guys got great pictures....I tried every setting that I knew on my camera but they still were bad. I should have set up the tripod and learned a new setting for shooting the moon! I really need to learn more settings LOL...............

I could see it from my frint window, I didn't even have to go outside. Did anyone notive the two stars around it? I believe they were Saturn (the planet) and a star callled Regulus. Very interesting winter evening.

Much better than the ones I took which looked like small blobs on the screen..lol.
It was pretty impressive despite the cold.
