L shaped counter with Costa Esmeralda?
Comments (15)Sue- Seams in the ecnter of a sink are not a taboo thing, BUT, many Fabricators do not want to do them for various reasons - biggest one - they've never done it before, so they don't want to try it out on you... In all fairness to your Fabricator (I am one too) seams in the center if a sink are a lot more detail work and there's a bigger risk in chippage on either side of the seam if they do not have the right equipment to decrease the risk of chippage. We do them (not as a rule), but in situations like yours, it's nice to pull that trump card out and "win the game" so to speak. As far as doing an "L" piece - it CAN be done, BUT, the risk factor goes up because "L's" are not really stable while in transport, and can break if not handled correctly - most guys (including me) prefer to avoid that agrivation... hope that helps kevin Kevin M. Comments (5)Oops, my bad. Wonder why I did not see those two links before? Anyway. Blame it on Friday! I saw the stains you chose and from your cab style, it's clearly traditional type kitchen. My honest 2c: honey oak from 30's kitchens has a yellowish tinge that would not look good with Costa E and your cab colors. In terms of materials, you may choose lighter colored ceramic or travertine tiles. For Wood, a dark colored wood such as walnut would look fabulous on it -- but dark colored floors show dust very well so they are also high maintenance. One thing I would avoid is using a character wood, because your cabinetry has a lot of pattern on it and character wood floor would compete. Another thing to avoid is to use exact same shade of wood for floors as cabinets. Apparently there should be at least 2 shade difference, as per one designer I recall. Just my 2c. Let us know when you decide...I'm sure it would turn out a fabulous kitchen....See MorePhotos of kitchens with Costa Esmeralda
Comments (13)Thats too bad, because I have an appt for Tuesday at Elemar. There is a granite called silver sea green, maybe that was it? I haven't seen that one in person, just seen it listed on the internet, some bad photos. I haven't called everyone local, because each fabricator uses certain granite yards or warehouses. I finally found a fabricator who will do my L shaped counter with only a small seam at the sink rather than a large seam at the L, and he even said that is the way he always does it, "why would you want a big seam like that" at the L he asked, and it is the one my kitchen installer uses. I was getting prices independently and had a problem with the way most of them wanted to lay out the counter. Anyway, he uses 3 warehouses, and one I have been to, only have dark green and very gray, damaged slabs and don't plan to order any more until what they have is sold. The other two I have been dealing with, have been going by photos because they are not too close to me. I was waiting to go out there to look at them until they got in a new shipment they were expecting, but the photos do not look promising. The nice, light green CE seems to have dried up, and I don't know if it will come back in this spring/summer or if it is no longer available from the mine. Also, I have been given prices of up to 170-180.00 sq ft for this. So between getting a good fabricator who will do it in the way I prefer and wide differences in prices, I can't just go anywhere. But I do have a choice of several large granite warhouses, just none are getting in those colors right now for what ever reason. This whole granite thing is just too unpredictable for my tastes. If you don't want black or almost black, or the speckled granties, you might be out of luck. the other colors and patterns seem to have very wide color variations, and I have noticed it in other granites, other than CE, also. Comments (7)I apologize: that doesn't really answer your question: Depends: where you live~ cut outs ~ edging ~ square feet ~ I would say $85.00 sf out the door price with demo, cut out sink & stove : material fab and install for the Costal. and $65-$70 per sf out the door for Crema Bordeaux. We charge $3 per sf for demo (you can do that yourself!) tell them AFTER BID $1 per sf for sealing stone (EASY to do yourself!) then you know done correctly! State that day the day fabrication or at signing and don't pay for sealing $21.00 sf for Fabrication with a choice of free edging: Demi bullnose: bullnose: standard: ease: or beveled edge.(ogee and waterfalls extra + 2.5" built up edge) $12.00 sf for complete install $275.00 for undermount sink cut out: free SS sink: 70/30 or 60/40 or 50/50 18 gauge. $175 for stove: This just gives you an idea: why: and how: Trust me: I am not advertising: We use to charge consistantly to each customer! NOT ANYMORE: Economy changed about one year ago. People come in with 6 bids in their hands! LOL! The word Consistant PRICING in Dallas Texas Is GONE! Everything is Negotable here. Now up North: I have seen some HIGH prices: Also: have to put into consideration: FREIGHT charges! These slabs come on big tankers across the sea!!!!! $$$$$ And based on where you live: it cost money to ship. Gas was high for over a year! Companies have gone out of business. Slab yards aren't stocking new granite! All have been hit. There is more of a demand here in Dallas for LOW installs: because there are "not" so trustworthy installer throwing out cheap bids! Driving the bids down. We have had to PICK up the PIECES now at 3 customers house: screw over by "bad" installers. 1/2 kitchen install: also kitchen installed wrong never fixed: and lady with guest vanity never installed right: including plumbing screwed up and we riped out and started over 36x22 piece! She was having a party! All of these 3 were "having parties" 2 Christmas and one July 4th. That motivated them: they never got their jobs fixed! Lady with 1/2 kitchen and no running water for 90 days! her kitchen 65 sf ended up costing her 5500$. We had to double rock her backsplash: because of the gaps the other installer left! And we had to match Portofino Gold: not easy! Also: other guy: CRAZY: got granite: they screwed up: never would come back: so he hired new guy to fix: screwed up cooktop worse and never came back: terrible seams: terrible install on the flow of Madura Gold! Then we were third company he hired! We riped it ALL OUT: started over: Maduri Gold 3cm: He was SOOO happy: perfect seams and he was almost in tears when we left! funny thing was it rained the next day on July 4th and his party got cancelled! and His wife was FREAKING OUT because granite installers RIPED out all the old Sheet Rock! So all the drama they had been through: she freaked out thinking we screwed up her walls! She calls Screaming at me: and I didn't understand her: She is screaming there are wires sticking out every where and wood showing!!! I had to laugh~ AND???: So, I quickly explained to here the Durock was much better and to chill out! Tile guy will fix! I had to laugh! My Point: Beware! Get references: go see their finished work: ask how long in business. Ect! I have people bring me 6 estimates lately! Home Depot, Lowes and Cosco: will charge high: remember they are Third party! They don't fabricate! they hire random people with their own shops and then random installers!...See Moresue_ct
