What Kind of Flooring with Costa Esmerelda Granite?

We decided on Costa Esmerelda granite (I don't have a picture, but I'll post a link below). What kind of flooring would you recommend?

Our cabinets are going to be Omega Dynasty Anson in Merlot(http://www.omegacab.com/imgWindow.asp?ititle=Anson&img=IIDoors/AnsonLg.jpg for door style and http://www.omegacab.com/stain.asp for color)

Right now we have ugly linoleum. When we rip it up, if we find nice wood (our house is from the 30s), should we keep it? It will likely be a honeyed oak like the rest of the house. Would that look good?

If not, what are my other options? I want something easy to clean that will look beautiful. Let's pretend money is no option for the moment :-) (No linoleum please)

We are installing Costa Esmerelda with Medallion cherry cabinets with a pecan stain and are installing (right at this moment in fact), red oak floors. I went back an forth between red and white oak and decided that I preferred red. However, the white oak is a "bit" harder and many people on GW use white oak. I am keeping my fingers crossed that it will work out. Because we have pets and I wanted something hard and light colored (we aren't staining it), and we had oak before and it was really bullet-proof for us.

There is a thread called Wood Kitchens that shows various floors with wood cabinets. I think you should look at complementing the cabinets over the granite.

I am getting CE and was going to get a Silgranit sink in white. I will also have white cabs. I then decided to go with Kohler cast iron b/c I fell in love with these sinks. I will do white. I think if you are afraid of white, I would probably go with a stainless sink. MAYBE gray. Do you have a sample of the countertop?

I love, love, love my month-old Costa Esmeralda countertops. They are my favorite thing in the kitchen (except for the BlueStar range). Green counters with natural maple cabinets were my vision when I started this project, but all the slabs I saw were not right (too grey or too blue) or too expensive. I looked at least 20 granite places including soapstone and pre-fab and was ready to pick anything just to be done. Then in a last ditch effort, I e-mailed requests for quotes to a few more places and told them I was leaning toward the greens. Surprisingly, one of the closest places to home (one that I had been to at the start of my search) called to say they had just had a new shipment of slabs from Italy. Then I fell in love with my slab (mid-shade green, but with veins of gold, white and black--to go with my anthracite Silgranit sink). It was about $90 sq ft installed, not inexpensive, but certainly not the most expensive either. I'm on the SF peninsula.

nancy east, it is fun after all the research and decisions are finally made! our cup pulls are the gilmore pull in polished nickel from restoration hardware. i used 4 inch pulls on almost everything. we have one drawer (under the cooktop) that is a 36 in drawer and i used two 4 inch cup pulls. the bank of drawers next to the sink are 24 inches. i thought one 4 inch cup pull didn't look right but two pulls looked busy so i went with the 6 inch cup pulls for those drawers. hope it helps!

What color cabinets are you getting? IMO the choice of flooring is as much tied to granite as it is to the cabinetry. Also, have you decided on any details such as tile or wood etc? What style do you have in mind? (modern, traditional etc.)

You will get plenty inspiration pix by going to Finished Kitchens Blog (you can search on Costa E kitchens). In addition if you have any specific preferences, listing them here would make suggestions more meaningful.

Oops, my bad. Wonder why I did not see those two links before? Anyway. Blame it on Friday!

I saw the stains you chose and from your cab style, it's clearly traditional type kitchen.

My honest 2c: honey oak from 30's kitchens has a yellowish tinge that would not look good with Costa E and your cab colors.

In terms of materials, you may choose lighter colored ceramic or travertine tiles.

For Wood, a dark colored wood such as walnut would look fabulous on it -- but dark colored floors show dust very well so they are also high maintenance.

One thing I would avoid is using a character wood, because your cabinetry has a lot of pattern on it and character wood floor would compete.

Another thing to avoid is to use exact same shade of wood for floors as cabinets. Apparently there should be at least 2 shade difference, as per one designer I recall.

Just my 2c. Let us know when you decide...I'm sure it would turn out a fabulous kitchen.

In our last house, our bathrooms had cherry cabinets that were similar in color to yours and Verde Anders granite that is close in color to CE. We used an off white porcelain tile that looked like tumbled stone on the floors, and it was a great contrast with the counters and cabinets. An ivory or beige-y natural stone or porcelain tile would look good if you like tile floors. I think honey oak would look too yellow with your cabinets.
