Absolutely love it, they are not too big. Most often people go too small.

As I just mentioned on the other thread, I love all you've picked - The clean dark cabinet lines, calm granite, bright bold lights, stunning floors. I love the pewter touch too. It seem to have more character than (but don't clash with existing) SS. Again, another element in your kitchen I may need to consider! The only "maybe" I have are the style of the pulls. For my tastes, they seem a little fussy. They don't look out of place, but I think I'd just prefer something sleeker. That is being super picky though. Your kitchen is stunning!

I love your cabinets and that granite is unbelievable!! I am not in love with the pulls but I really think that is a personal choice. I agree with tsherman that they are a little fussy but if you like that style then they go great. My first instinct would be slightly more modern pulls. I hate to really use the word modern because that is probably not the look you are going for but I think something more streamlined would flow better.

I hear ya on the pull...I really wasn't expecting to go with something like this, just loved the way it felt in my hand and looked on the fridge drawer panel (that I've been lugging all over the planet!).

Here was our other choice, which might make more sense!

I have a question... the banding on your light and the chain look like dark brass or ORB on my computer. Is that right? All your other elements are pewter/SS? I'm not necessarily a matchy person but I'm not certain that I'd want only the lights to be that different. I do like the style though

Good point, remodelfla...the fixture is iron or ORB. I went with this because all of the doorknobs/hinges in the house are ORB. I'm not too matchy either, but don't want it to look crazy!

Love, love the granite with the dark cabinets! I prefer your second pull. I'm not a fan of pulls where an end is "open" - I have a similar pull in my soon-to-be demoed kitchen and I am always catching my clothing on it. What I wouldn't give to be at the knob and pull decision stage....

I like the second pull better, too. That first pull, while absolutely gorgeous, is what I call a "pocket catcher". I fell in love with the looks of several of them but resisted as I just know how I operate in a kitchen and they would be a serious hazard to me.

Love the light but again, know it's nothing I'd ever have in my space because that big glass bowl would just be a dirt and grease catcher.

Love how all the details are pulling together too. Very cool taste. I'll vote for the second pull - not only is there the pocket-catcher aspect with the first, I actually like the second one better.

What color are you painting?

I think the 2nd pull is now the pick! I kinda forgot about the whole pocket-catcher thing.

BM Revere Pewter is going on the walls tomorrow! - but really will just be on the pantry wall opposite the butler's pantry cabs and the bfast nook - the rest of the areas under the cabs will be some sort of backsplash...which will likely be another post soon :)

I know what you mean about forgetting about the pocket catcher issue. Hubby had to pull me back from that precipice a few times.

Can't wait to see more pics. With the palette you have so far, you have lots of good backsplash possibilities.

I would actually prefer the ORB pendants in your kitchen, even though you're doing the pewter hardware. I think the ORB pendants would have a nice relationship do your dark cabinetry, specifically since they're going over the island. I think silver would work too...hmmm...but I feel the ORB would work better somehow. Any chance you can take them home and try them out?

Jennifer: lights are from potterybarn, pulls are Top Knobs which I've seen in-person at a local cab hardware place. On line the best pricing I've found is at knobshingesandmore.com. We hope (fingers crossed!) the house will be ready the 2nd week of March...we'll see!

nancyaustin: the cabs are custom, walnut with Java stain. I would highly recommend him but it doesn't sound like you live in Chicago!!! :)

mairin - I just noticed that you said you did cumaru railings. Do you know where you got them? BR111 (the floor company) lists the treads, but not railings. Assuming you got them from a different company, how is the match?

PS - I hope Sleeping Beauty's reattachment was successful!

The style of the knobs is more of a personal preference thing, but I think pewter or something slightly different from your stainless finishes is great -- adds more depth to your kitchen that all exactly the same. I also think your light fixtures will be great -- they are warm like your wood and the other dark finishes in the house. That will help the kitchen feel like it belongs in your home rather than being something new that just gfot stuck in there. You are making good choices, and it's looking great.

Interesting to note: I was wondering if I had chosen too dark of cabinets (very close to your choice & goes with the rest of our house trim) but recently noticed there have been more pics of dark cabinets posted. Yeah! I'm not second guessing anymore as the dark cabinets are awesome!

Mairin, please do post a photo when the painting is done. Revere Pewter is my #1 pick of paint color and I'd love to see your finished combination.

Just had a glass of wine and ordered!! hee hee. no turning back now! went with the 2nd pull (no catching issues - I really liked that first one, but just as pbrisjar mentioned, the way I work in the kitchen would be a killer!) which I think is hefty and substantial enough, with a bit more simple lines.

redroze: don't know that you'll look back...forgot to include you above...I can't believe how much I've 'copied' your kitchen!!! I saw yours for the first time when your backsplash went up, then the open cabs question and absolutely loved it. I apparently was choosing all these finishes with your kitchen in my subconscious. I soooo wanted crystal knobs, but DH really protested (sigh!) It'll be fun to see how these elements come into play with the white versus dark cabs.

After granite install next week I'll have a good sample to start my hunt for the backsplash!

oops - meant to write "subconscience". apparently a glass of wine does wonders to my writing ability!!

Seriously, I'm flattered! I've been subconsciously influenced by others as well, and if your kitchen came before mine I probably would have "copied" it as well!! You could probably sneak in two glass knobs if you really wanted to...but you know what, the hardware you're choosing will be equally amazing.

The great thing is being able to take others' ideas and make them your own.

What a beautiful kitchen, mairin. The color and style of your cabinetry coupled with the granite is just lovely. Sigh.

I know I am v. late to this dance, but have you considered glass knobs? As I first looked at your pictures, and then I just scrolled back up to look again, I'm really "feeling" glass knobs. I think they'll give you the sparkle of the pewter without looking too polka dot-y, if that makes sense. (in my mind's eye, the pewter will pop against the dark cabinets)

My kitchen is the negative of yours (white cabinets). We have RH's glass knobs on our doors (not on the drawers) and they are visible without saying "HERE I AM! LOOK AT ME!" There is something subtle, elegant and easy about them (they're easy on the hands, and they are a breeze to clean [two toddlers -- trust me, I know]). Plus they're pretty, and they don't detract from the cabinet door style -- I think they actually add.

You wrote that the pendants are from Pottery Barn -- I haven't visited their website to see the size / price of those pendants, so this may be of no help. However, an eBay seller (5starfurnishings) from whom I've purchased lighting has some v. similar pendants, maybe a similar size but lower price? As I wrote, I know nothing of the Pottery Barn pendants, but I always like saving money!

I know I'm late late late, as I wrote, but I still wanted to pipe in with what I'm seeing when I look at those scrumptious pictures!

I sooooo wanted glass knobs. I completely agree with you on this. DH protested on this one, and I did everything in my power to try to convince him. I lost. boo hoo :( I don't know why he's so interested in this - it's driving me crazy!! LOL I'm gonna see if he'll let me put them in the butler's pantry area. I won't hold my breath - you should have heard him when I was picking out everything for my daughters' bathroom!

thanks for the link for the pendants - They are just a little bit more than what I spent at PB!! hooray! I did already purchase them and LOVE them. All the lighting for the house will be installed on the 23rd...as long as I get my act in gear and make up my mind on a couple of rooms :)

Yes, I brought home 2 very nice glass knobs (Cal crystal and Emtek), both very simple (not too faceted and obnoxious) and vintage looking and it was 'a no-go'. They looked so perfect against the dark cabinet - a little bit of light, but not enough to scream at you.

I will be sure to show him your opinions, maybe that will sway him a bit...I can only dream...

Well, you've already ordered, but I wanted to say that your kitchen is gorgeous and I love the granite, cabs, and that I think your choice in the second pull is spot on.

i hope you didn't take my message the wrong way!!!! the pewter pulls will be beautiful. i was just empathizing about the dh's forming strong opinions on these matters!
