Films I shouldn't watch alone...

"Signs" with Mel Gibson is one of them. I'm watching it right now, and I'm all alone, and it's too darn quiet in the house. I really ought to change the channel.....gulp.

Aliens. My DD (at the time about 12 years old begged me to let her watch this... then she's like "why did you let me see this movie????") LOL

Once you have a few nice big leaves you can be relatively sure that you have roots. I have had a cutting that was full of foliage that suddenly stopped growing. When I finally decided to see what was going on I found there were no roots. Maybe it had them and something in the soil either ate or rotted them, don't know but that plant eventually died. I don't go digging around unless I haven't seen any growth in a few months or unless something strange is going on, like the cutting I just mentioned. I do gently tug to check for resistance after I've had foliage develop. I guess I shouldn't do that but I haven't hurt anything ....yet. lol So I won't recommend tugging on the cutting, just watch the growth. I'm just anxious to get them outside so I can put away my seed mat and turn off the HID lights. The lights were great in the winter when it was cold but they generate so much heat. Even with the AC running 24/7 it still heats up the entire room to an uncomfortable temperature. Like you said they are looking so good, I'm hesitant to change anything. I have a few cuttings on a seed mat upstairs but that one is a one flat mat with no supplemental lighting so they aren't a problem. Karyn

BTW those of you who say like PA doesn't provide incentive enough, need to get the old email and poison penout and start bugging you senatorss and congress men to increase the payback for selling energy back, the energy companies hate this new solar technology, they can't bend some people over the barrel and you know >>>>> them! Btw how do you sell Dirct current back to the power grid??? Is there an dc inverter to AC? I watched a program where Ed Begley and his wife went around and helped people pick and chose the best systems and enegry efficint items for them, he actually went to Larry Hagman's house Larry has a three meter kw generating solar array not very big considering the amount of enegry produced. He said his system installed with the conversions to ac with inverters cost him something like $300.000 If I recall he said his electric bill for his estate used to run around $13,000 a year(??) once he turned on system the power companby had to pay him some amount of money each month and his system would be paid for in like 2-3 yrs if I recall correctly, plus he actually ran t power to 8 homes in the valley below him at no cost to the residents, he said one guy was a truck driver with several kids and economy was hitting guy hard so that was his firts free energy install.....nice guy. Wind power on small scale not gonna provide enough power and the huge electric company wind mills are so terrible, eye sores in the woods and mountains and they fail after a few years, all it takes is a big bird strike and there go the 80fot long blades and the system will self destruct from imbalance! and if you live near them the sound has to be extremely annoying whoooosh, whooosh, wooosh hour and hours on end! I am working on an invention that will revolutionize the solar heated water systems, I will market this and become a billionare in a short time! Ground source heat pumps are the way to heat and cool without using enormous amounts of electricity, 18" to 24" down 68 degrees F perfect cooling temp in summer and also for heat in winter, (they have auxillary heater in case it dips to below zero) the only electricity is the circulating motor and blower! Up front costs expensive but at reduction from $200 a month down to say $50, that $150 plus the amount for payment will cut repaying loan in half! I am on limited income and do not pay taxes so unfortunately we disabled or older folks that own homes do not get to take the interest deductions(low income no huge portfoilio)or the enegry savings deductions. I sure would install the most energy efficient sytem if they would give us a cash rebate kinda like the first time homebuyers credit! I got that cause that was a direct payment and had to call IRS for them to explain that yes I was qualified even though I don't pay federal or state taxes! I installed new energy efficient windows could not take the $1500 credit, installed new energy efficient french doors to cut down on the wind whipping throught he old doors could not take the $1500 per door tax credit, so I end up paying more in the long run cause not recovering some of the costs of updating! BTW ground source heat pumps can not only be installed by the 6 loops dug inb your lawn area, but they also can in town house or close quarters be drilled straight down in loops! I am fighting with the rest of the board members on the solar panel ban, systems aren't like the big old pvc pipe systems running all over the roof, they can be mounted on the roof or the sides of houses but they dont want them! I remeber back in the oil embargo in the 70's the government made the power companies offer low interest loans added to electric bills to upgrade windows and insullation, and cut energy loss from old windows etc, they should do the same thing now make the energy companies allow low cost energy loans to install solar panels, ground source heat pumps, geothermal wind etc. Just thought I woul add my 2 cents in

A friend has this happening with one of their cats and they refuse to take her to the vet. The cat is usually trying to tell you something. Here's some info from Catinfo.org: Top reasons for a cat to stop using the litter box: Ã¢ÂÂ¢Dirty litter box(es) Ã¢ÂÂ¢Poor choice of litter form (using pellets/crystals/non-clumping litter which are uncomfortable to walk on and do not allow for complete urine removal) Ã¢ÂÂ¢Poor location of litter box(es) Ã¢ÂÂ¢Blocked from the box by a dominant feline housemate Ã¢ÂÂ¢Unable to relax and get to the box, or use it, due to fear of a strange human, dog, active child, loud noise, etc., in the house environment Ã¢ÂÂ¢Box size is too small Ã¢ÂÂ¢Too few boxes Ã¢ÂÂ¢Medical problem(s) - This should always be a serious consideration. Many medical issues such as diabetes, cystitis (painful bladder inflammation), bladder stones, and a partial urethral blockage (always an emergency!) can cause a cat to stop using his litter box. I read the book before I saw the movie. I absolutely hated the book and the author along with it. She's a miserable person, imo. I envy those of you who didn't read the book because, unfortunately, that ruined the movie for me. I know that the movie was quite different from the book and the character was tempered (Julie, not Julia), but it was still ruined. I love, love, love Meryl Streep and she was delightful in this movie, as always. But if you want to continue loving the movie, my advice is to not read the blasted book. (Can you tell I really, really dislike Julie?).

I saw the original Night of the Living Dead when I was at college, living in a dorm with 300 other girls. I walked back to my room and was afraid to sleep alone, so I dragged my mattress into another girl's room and stayed there. I was a little embarassed the next morning but my friend understood, as she had seen the movie too.

This reminded me of how I felt a couple of days ago. I like to watch the old movies (that I saw in my youth) on TCM. Well, they were showing "The Uninvited" and I just could not watch.......I had seen it when it first came out, at a downtown theater, with three dorm friends. It was so scary that we ran home, not on the sidewalk, but down the street. Someone stepped on a manhole cover, causing a great clatter. We really ran, then. Anyway, I just could not watch it by myself this time!

I usually like scary movies, but the one I will not watch is "Paranormal Activity".

It's on Pay per View now, but after overhearing people everywhere say it scared the cr@p out of them, I think this is one movie I'm better off not seeing.

LOL! You guys understand alright!

tally - I DID watch Paranormal Activity on PPV last week. Don't waste your money if you even think you might want to watch it. Wasn't scary, filmed sort of like a reality show and just dragged on and on for the first hour or so. Something for teens, but I admit it had a surprise ending, albeit funny to me instead of scary.

LOL! Scary movies...LOL! I don't like to take a shower when I'm home alone. LOL! I haven't swam in the Ocean since "Jaws". I certainly wouldn't want to be snowbound in an empty Resort. LOL!

The Panic Room did it for me. I have watched a lot of scary movies, but this one scared me the most...and I watched it when my husband was up deer hunting.

Clockwork Orange and Cape Fear. When I was married I watched lots of scary movies I hadn't seen before. I don't watch them now that I am alone.

Years ago my neighbor had rented "Silence of the Lamb" and gave it to me to watch before he took it back. Harry was gone that weekend and I put it in while I was cleaning. Holy cow, it scared me so bad I had to turn it off.

I'm another that can't watch any of those Halloween movies--even if I'm not home alone.

I saw about 10 or 15 minutes of Clockwork Orange and it was making me feel really queasy--it got turned off too, much to my teenage daughter's chargrin!

Give me a good chick flick and I'm happy!

Salem's Lot the TV 4 hour version with David Soul
I say 4 hours since it was on 4 nights in a row back in 1979 it is available thru amazon and maybe netflix

I agree with Silence of the Lambs. Movies are even scarier when you realize there are real life people that are sick enough to do that stuff. The "scary" movies that are fake (with monsters and scissors hands, aren't as scary cause you know they're fake......make sense?? lol

tally, I thought Paranormal Activity was scary!! I'm a At least I thought so. It reminded me of the Blair Witch Project, but I thought BWP was scarier than Paranormal Activity.

I guess everyone has their own ideas of what is scary or not, and it was definitely more of a psychological thriller.

Speaking of scary movies, watched a Biography program early this morning (couldn't sleep), about Stephen King. Alot of his books are inspired by his own experiences in life. I didn't know that, he and his family spent time in a hotel in Colorado just like the one in The Shining. Not a good movie to watch alone, at night.

I'm not a fan of scary movies but the other night my son and I watched "Dreamcatcher"...ICK...I kept covering my eyes!!

After that was over we watched a show called "Impaled" where four people had huge objects rammed into different parts of their bodies...that gave me heart palps...It is amazing these four guys survived what happened to them but they did...that was scary movie in the REAL!!

After all these years, the original Psycho still scares me to death. I will not get in the shower when I'm home alone, thanks to that movie.
