What is your first....

Cooking memory that is. I started thinking about as I have the girls and sometimes Hayden help me out in the kitchen. I remember being around 6 and making my dad a grilled cheese sandwich when he got off of work late. I had a little trouble and buttered both sides of bread and they got a little toasty lol. But Dad being the great guy he is ate it with out any complaints.

Growing up mom didn't let us help in the kitchen much, I guess 6 kids under 10 yrs old made it more work than it was worth somedays. I have the kids help me make dinner all the time. Rhiannon is 5 and does a good job of breaking and scrambling the eggs. When we make cookies we have to have 2 stools up to the counter to help me out. One thing I have learned is that even though I love their help, everything takes at least 2 times longer. But the lessons that the girls are learning is priceless. Hayden is a little young at 14 months but I let him help mix too.

Just thought I would put this out there and see what other stories others have about first cooking experiences and cooking with helpers. Last thing, when Rhiannon was 2 I was in the kitchen canning pickles and noticed that she was being really quiet. I went into her play room and she was at her play kitchen with jars, flats and rings doing her own canning, don't know many other 2 year olds that like to can. Now she likes to make her and Peyton and Hayden their sandwiches for lunch, and using a butter knife she helps cut up the fruit for the kids, all at age 5.
