I buy only the "short" cans now - are they 8 oz? I think people drink WAY to much pop - and it doesn't matter if it is diet.

I let my kids have pop - but only the short can on a Friday after school. THey can have it at a ball game or movie, but they always choose a small size on their own. I am happy to see that they will turn down a 24 oz bottle and say that is TO MUCH!

I think todays youth will really regret drinking all that pop.

According to the one I have sitting on my counter, it's 6 fluid ounces.

I use the bottom of it to flatten chicken breasts, and the top to tenderize meat.

Oh wow, I remember those. I had forgotten about them! When I first started reading this I was thinking about the upright ones with the glass door that you'd open and there too if you didn't yank that bottle out (if you stopped part way) you'd lose your money.

The hanging ones would let you put in different sizes of bottles. I remember the small ones, probably 7-8 oz then the 12 oz (who remembers the jingle "Pepsi-Cola hits the spot, 12 full ounces that's a lot") and then the 16 oz bottles in the 8 packs.

Memories.... Yah-HOO Mountain Dew! It'll tickle your innards!

I thought they were that small, 6 oz. and we usually shared it with someone. I bet I never had a whole one for JUST ME!

Boy! Does that ever say a lot about the amount of food and amount of beverage we consume now compared to back then.
And I wonder why I'm overweight!

According to the Coca Cola website the traditional bottle was 6.5 ozs. Other sizes were introduced in the 1950s.

I remember always having to share a bottle. We were a family of 4 kids, so every once in a blue moon, Mom would buy a carton of cokes. That's 6 bottles. More often than not, the cokes I had were at the soda fountain of our little drug store. Cherry cokes were yummy.

We have an authentic, antique, Coca Cola bottle dispenser in the garage. It's cold in the garage at night, so I'm glad I didn't have to go downstairs to check it out! :-)

We had one of those in a beauty shop I worked at in 1970. The coke would get slushy when you popped the cap.

You can still buy the small glass bottles here and the big ones too! At the flea market,the small ones are c50 ents a piece...not a nickel anymore! LOL!

I remember when I was a kid,there was a gas station one block from our house that sold bottled Coke in 6 or 7 ounce glass bottles. I loved walking there on a hot summers day. I was 11 at tHe time. Now I buy Coca Cola at McDonalds for around $2 and consider it a decent price.

I have a recipe that uses 7 oz of ginger ale -- does that tell you how old the recipe is? I have scribbled the conversion to double the recipe and am hard pressed to find a small container of the ginger ale -- usually only 2 liter bottles are available...

I think they were 6 oz. The funeral home where Eric used to work in Fairburn still has one of those machines. They have a "heck of a time" with it breaking down and finding the drinks but people still love to get Coke in the bottles!

Yes, I remember them well. I thought they were 7 oz when I was a teen. And yes, we almost always shared and got plenty. What I also remember is that being in glass bottles, and kept in that COLD water, the pop was very cold. I don't buy much pop anymore. The other day I found Sierra Mist Free w/splash of cranberry, so I got a 12-pk. The cans were so tiny looking. I was amazed to find out that the little, tiny cans were actually 12 oz!! See how my mind has been programmed into thinking I NEED bigger! (BTW, I split a can with Sis and it was plenty for each of us.)

I still yearn for the chocolate cokes we used to buy at the drug store soda fountain when in high school (52 years ago) and have been known to put a little chocolate syrup into a coke, but it just doesn't taste the same.

one of the funniest time was in vancouver, bc ca..we'd gone up for vacation and had stopped in a chinese restaurant, in their china-town..ordered soda and the waiter plunked down six bottles on the table...(not even a glass) we still giggle over that one! had to be in the 70's...

We poured peanuts in our bottled cokes and slugged 'em down. Gosh, that sounds good!
