I guess it would be carrots although I really like parsnips too. Hard to choose.

Rutabagas in stew or with roast beef

I like all of them, but if I have to pick a favorite, I guess it would be beets. No, parsnips. No, turnips. Oh, shoot. Don't make me choose.

Actually, taters are tubers, not a root vegetable so although I do like my taters, I like radishes probably the best of roots that I can think of offhand.

Either beets or parsnips - hard to pick just one.

I like them all too but I guess my very favorite would be beets,pickled.I can eat a whole can at one sitting.

Potatoes, definitely. They can be cooked in so many ways-boiled, mashed, fried, in potato salad, in cheese sauce, etc.My husband makes a great chicken & root vegetable dish. Lay a cut up chicken in any oven roasting pan. Then add cut up potatoes (peeled or not), onions, celery, carrots, parsnips, any root vegetables.(Cut vegetables in large chunks.) Sprinkle over some dried parsley, and a little salt and pepper. Then pour over some olive oil, any kind will do. Cover and bake in the oven at 350 for about an hour. After about 30 minutes, if it seems dry, add some water and re-cover and continue cooking.

I like all of them. Carrots and parsnips cooked together and sort of mashed up is really good!

Cynic is right--botanically speaking, the potato is an underground stem, not a root.

I like all root vegetables, except beets.

Potatoes are good because you can prepare them in so many different ways. But I love turnip too.

We have been really enjoying parsnips this winter. This is a new vegetable for us. I had some at a Thanksgiving dinner over at a friend's house a few years back. This fall, I started making them for my own brood. Just roasted, with salt & pepper and a bit of olive oil, nothing fancy. So fragrant and delicious.

At first the kids wouldn't touch them, but it was my mistake, I called them "parsnips", LOL. The next time I served them was the week of Halloween and I called them "ghost carrots" and they gobbled them up. Now, I get asked when are we having ghost carrots again.

Is (hik em a) spelled phonetically a root? I like that one. There is another like it, but I can't remember the name. Grandma used to eat celery root.
I honestly don't think I've ever had a turnip, parsnip, or a beet ( other than the pickled kind.

Jicama--yum! But I only get it from salad bars, dunno why.

Love parsnips, just discovered them last year--roasted with other veggies, as jasdip says, with some olive oil and freshly ground salt and pepper. Simple and delish!

High-carb veg, yeah that's me--white potato, sweet potato. I get sucked in every time!

Have to say beets. Love them pickled. Like Lilliepad I could eat a whole can.
Parsnips...yuck, patoohy! They just taste so weird to me.
