At this point, it's ANYTHING! I am so excited about expanding my beds this year I don't know what to do with myself. And to see everything waking up from the winter sleep is just so comforting. I'm even doing container gardening this year. Each plant seems to have it's own kind of reward. Herbs are always a favorite for me because not only can I use them to cook and such, but the bees and butterflies love them. The Yarrow from last year looks like it never died. The Sweet William never did either-- I took clumps off of it to plant elsewhere. The Cornflower I WSed is about 7 inches high already and it's been in the ground since late March. And I just picked up some trailing Geranium and Non-Stop Begonias at a nursery near Cooperstown (the Begonias wowed me to no end. I couldn't leave without some). I now have a better looking shade garden plan than I ever intended! I thank God for the opportunity to garden and all the help GardenWeb folks have given me :-)

Maisie - Defrost's squash pictures are amazing. I'm always wishing I had a bigger sunnier spot. [g] This year, seed starting is about the fun of gardening in the offiseason for me too, but selection and timing are often the reasons I will try to do it. I like to get my plants in the ground earlier than I can find them available and I usually want varieties that I don't always find. I'm out in the garden in March if possible and still out in the garden in November, so I'm usually ready for a break from gardening during the off season. Last year I didn't do as much gardening, so I'm itching to do some this year. Indoor seed starting does take a lot of attention and I found I refined it from year to year. I haven't actually done it in awhile, so I hope I can get it right this year. One big key for me, was adding a fan. That made a lot of difference. And I try not to start them too early. It's tempting to try to end up with huge plants to put in the ground, but even a 6 week old plant is 6 weeks ahead and ready to start growing as soon as it hits the ground. Ending up with too many….lol….doesn't everyone do that?! I found my old 48" shop lights and bulbs and nothing is working, so I'm going to have to replace everything. And what is available is different then it was. I have the old T12 fixtures and I see now they have T8s and T5s. I wonder what everyone else is using?

I'm currently growing cherry tomato (Gardener's Delight), dwarf tomato (Adelaide Festival), Early Jalapeno, Sylvetta arugula, and salad greens. I wish I could grow more, but city-living with limited outdoor and window space. I hope to grow kale once autumn comes.

I buy from local plant stores, neighborhood plant sales and the Green Markets throughout the city. However I recommend buying seeds online. I try to grow from seed when possible. There's something about seeing the seeds grow into plants indoors when it's cold outside. Also, buying seeds gives you more options and varieties than what you can purchase as plants at local stores. My two favorite online sources are: sample seeds seeds now (esp. the free shipping offers)
