China Doll.. getting bigish.. should I prune back?
Comments (2)Dalar, oh how pretty..let it grow..LOL..did you ever see a tall China Doll? I've seen grown tree-shaped and bushes. IMO, they do better in cool, not cold, temps. We sold CD when I worked at Rentokil Tropical Plants..those kept outdoors, (unless underwatered) shed less leaves and flowered, little baby flowers but cute. Those indoors didn't do much. They don't like dry soil, so be sure to keep soil evenly moist. Not wet, barely moist in-between waterings. Soak well though. With proper care, they do great in direct summer sun, though you'd never think so by looking at their fragile foliage. As for taking them outside, if temps don't drop under 50F, your plant should be fine. I've been taking plants out, a little at a time..only a few, in case it decides to snow or drop under 40. They're right by the door, so if the temps changed for the worse, it's just a matter of dragging them through the doorway. At 70+F today, and sunny, plants are doing fine, no sunburn..Good luck, Toni...See MoreDo I paint island/built-in china cabinet/desk same as cabinets?
Comments (9)I love frenchkitty's kitchen. I used her kitchen as one of my inspiration photos for my new kitchen, last year. I did not know what colors she used. (Thanks). First, I totally agree that you should paint the desk the same as the cabinets. Second, any reason you are not going to paint the bricks on the island??? Do they match some other bricks in your home? You could paint them the same as the cabinets if you wanted to downplay them or leave them if you like them. Third, I used SW antique white as our trim color thoughout our home, plus all the kitchen cabinets. The painter did glaze the kitchen cabinets with a brown glaze mix and I just love them. They are a soft cream with the brown antiqued look. We used SW Ivoire for all the walls and now I want to repaint the kitchen walls a deeper tone of gold or caramel. I am little confused. What color are you leaning toward for the china cabinet? I liked Patty Cakes idea of using a color and then perhaps glazing over it. I am not crzay about the idea of brown. Too safe and boring. I do love the French blues or perhaps a soft bluish green. If depends on what other colors you use in your kitchen and home. You actually could also do a bright shade of color with no glaze. It all depends on your taste. But not brown. Sorry....See MorePainting Cabinets White - Should I get white hinges?
Comments (26)Can anybody who has had cabinets painted + new doors and drawer faces tell me the price + approx square footage of kitchen? I had this done in 2012. I live in the SF Bay Area, so my costs are right up there. My kitchen is 10x10 and I didn't change the footprint at all. I got 25 new doors (including end panels), some large, some smaller, 7 drawer fronts, all paint grade maple. Decora shaker doors/end panels and slab drawer fronts. The cost, through my KD was just over $1K. I had everything painted professionally and that was a lot more, $4.3K. All the doors/drawer fronts were done in the painter's shop and the cabinet frames were done in place. The creamy white paint is the catalyzed stuff and has worn like iron. I had a general contractor do the door and hinge installation and other work in the kitchen, so I can't say how much of his fee was just cabinet-related. Initially I thought I'd have everything refaced. My cabs were golden oak. Home Depot sent out a guy to my house and he insisted I listen to a canned sales pitch. I wasn't born yesterday and didn't like his manner or approach. I asked, bottom line, how much. He threw out $10K, clearly uninterested in doing the work. I ended up paying $20K for my entire kitchen, including new quartz counter, backsplash, lighting, etc. Everything but the wood floor, including labor. If I were doing this sort of facelift again, I would do it the same way....See MoreWhat should I sell my china cabinet for?
Comments (14)Seen many at thrift stores like your China hutch. They are going for around $50 and below. My mom purchased a new one similar to yours (with light too) about 20 years ago. I have something similar to your hutch. It was a gun cabinet my sister had that they replaced the rack with wood shelves and is in my home office area as a enclosed bookcase and misc knick knack, plus storage below. Nice because it keeps dust off stuff....See MoreUser
